Idea: SBMM, Ranked and Unranked

(If this is in the wrong place please move) Ok, so I've been saying this for a long time and everyone I know agrees with me, but it turns out a lot of people hadn't actually thought of it. We know SBMM is, to a degree, in the game. Bugnie lied, yes, yes let's move on. So when I heard about SBMM I felt Destiny had missed a MASSIVE opportunity. They took what could have been a major WIN and turned it into a very angry community who felt they could no longer trust the developer (Nods to Bungo). Thing is, SBMM is actually a very good tool - in the right place. For example, SBMM is a good idea for competitions, but by competition, I don't mean Carries of Osirus or Lag Banner. No. What I felt Bungie could really have added to PVP was a "Ranked" playlist. Call it whatever you like, I don't care, but hear me here. Take SBMM completely and utterly out of crucible. Give us back a place where we can chill after a beer with our friends and where pub stompers can pretend to be the best in the business "Luk @ MA kaydee". Then, create this ranked playlist. Which works on a divisional system, (Rusted to Legionnaire as per DTracker ELO for example), your rank would be reflected with a relevant badge on your emblem. This ranked playlist will utilise SBMM, and could be even better moulded by including matchmaking only against other people in there division/league/level. This would satisfy SO many people. All the matchmaking issues with crucible (lag, can't play with friends, etc) would be gone In it's place a fun and chilled arena that we love. The competitive side that cry out due to the lack of private matches would have this awesome place they could go, compete and get that shiny badge they've always wanted - and it will actually mean something and be impressive; ELO and KD are not good indicators of skill as present. I really strongly feel that this has few flaws, why Bungie hasn't seen nor implemented a system similar evades me. I know that I'd love to have crucible back to being a place I test weapons out every game. Where as I'd also love to grab my guys and say "let's smash it this week and get up to Gold tier" or whatever. Like to know your opinions guys, ways to improve or whatever. Look forward to reading them NWT

  • As a filthy casual, I'm really missing sbmm. For the first few months of ttk, I was enjoying the crucible. Since the return to what is obviously a heavier weight on connection, it seems like every match has 1 player with 30+ kills and the next highest player has 10-12. So fun for the "pro", but sucks for the other 5-11 folks playing. Have a strong feeling that given a choice, the casuals, who are the vast majority, would chose sbmm leaving the cbmm preference folks with the same problem we had before...all "sweaty" matches. I hated the crucible before sbmm...and I'm just about ready to drop it again. Worked my way up to 1.0, but it's absolutely no fun getting stomped every other match by somebody that's just wiping the floor with the other 5-11 players in the game. (Really just as bad to be on the "winning" team in these situations.)

TL;DR: Make the system more like Halo. You had this shit down in 2007 (well, 2004 actually).

    • TLDR: Put SBMM into separate playlist
