The Marathon Trilogy - Get It!
NINJA EDIT - READ THIS FIRST From now on, people who post spam, advertising and Halo crap in this thread are going to get maximum length bans. I don't care how clever or witty you think you are, or how urgent your question about the latest Reach update is. Don't post that S'pht here. The other ninja may have let it slide, but I won't.
This guide works for Windows, OS X, and Linux. With the release of Aleph One 1.0 on December 1st, 2011, the hitherto-confusing installation process has been streamlined dramatically. Curated community plugins have been bundled with the game files into a single download for each game. Get your Marathon here! If you wish to find alternatives or additions to the bundled plugins, check out Simplici7y. The site is active, with new content submitted regularly. It should also be noted that Marathon 2: Durandal is available for purchase from the Xbox Live Arcade. [Edited on 03.04.2012 5:04 PM PST]

  • I just thought I'd let everyone know that AlephOne doesn't work with OS X Lion. I downloaded it today and AlephOne won't respond. Edit: I finally got around to partitioning my hard drive. AlephOne won't work with Lion, so now I just run Snow Leopard also. I typed out a quick explanation of how to run AlephOne if your OS is Lion.
You need to partition your hard drive and have both Snow Leopard and Lion on your Mac. This should help you partition you hard drive. Once you have everything done you can switch between Snow Leopard and Lion. When you're using Snow Leopard, use this tutorial and get Marathon.
[Edited on 07.28.2011 7:33 PM PDT]

  •
Posted by: Wumpa Warrior Hey Im new to the whole Marathon dealio. Just downloaded, everything works fine except this: My laptop does not have the full keyboard with two different number sets. I have tried using num lock, which works, but it also leaves out some major keys like M for map is now look down. Help please?
So, trouble with controls? Configure your own in the preferences. I turned mine into the W,A,S,D keys. And I think by having "always run" on you don't really need to use Num lock? I might be mistaken.

  •
Posted by: durandal117 I'm a bit of a newbie, and I couldn't find a way to reply to this topic w/o quoting the poster above me. Anyways, I need help with installing a scenario. I have Aelph-One, and I want to play the Scenario Eternal (http://eternal.bungie.org/main.php]this in case you don't know what I mean), and every time I try to extract the data from the .zip folder, it says that I can't because there's already another file with that name, and by that, I'm guessing it's referring to this weird file that shares the same name as the folder. It's a "3 file", and I don't know what that means. It suggests renaming the file, but it doesn't let me. Can anyone help me with this? Thank you. P.S.: I have Aelph-one for Windows, btw.
Excellent job copying your post from the pfhorums.

  •
Posted by: VenomfangX What computer do you need in order to play this? Is this free? Thirdly, is this like Runescape where you can play with other people or is it a game where you play by yourself?
.... No. Marathon is absolutely nothing like runescape. Runescape is an mmorpg. Marathon is a first person shooter. You can play multiplayer games with friends. You can also play the solo game.

I downloaded some of the mods you recommended. I put the zip's of them into a new folder called Plugins inside of the M1A1 folder. The game runs fine and when I go to the environment settings it says that the plugins are enabled. However, when I play the textures and stuff are still the same as the original. Anything I am doing wrong?
Posted by: Spikey Mikey I'm still not sure how to run RED with Alephone. I understand the original trilogy perfectly, and I have all the running perfectly with all the reccomended plugins. But the download source for RED, right here, when I tried earlier, came in as one single file. While the original trilogy, and ETERNAL, was in an zipped format and once as a normal folder I just had to put the Alephone application in it. So, I don't understand the single file (HTTP or FTP) thing. I r confused
I got it working when it used to be just a zip file. I don't know where I found it, but if you can't get it working, Skype me. I'll zip my Red up and send it to you through that. My Skype name is just MrM12LRV. Good luck!

  •
Posted by: BobBQ
Posted by: Tempus Irae I definitely remember playing Red on Aleph One, and Evil was certainly ported.
As a general rule, any map or total conversion made for Marathon 2 or Marathon Infinity will run on AlephOne with no modifications, though you may need an extra MML file to get correct inventory text strings. •
Posted by: Tempus Irae
Posted by: Spikey Mikey Do you guys recoomend the other Marathon scenarios? I.e Eternal, Red, Rubicon, the ones on the front page. I downloaded Eternal, and I'm thinking on playing that after I re-play through the entire trilogy since I guess it takes place after Infinity. Just, are these scenarios/campaigns good? Storyline wise and such? The front post says some of them are close to the original games. Second opinions? Edit: It seem "Evil" and "Red" were designed to be played with the original titles? Not through Alephone? Cause I"m not having any luck wit those two. But I downloaded and tested out "Eternal" and "Rubicon" perfectly.
it might be that you have downloaded the old Mac OS versions of the scenarios. Eternal has a very strong story, but I dislike the gameplay of it. Don't dive into it yet, too, because I have it from a good source that a new version of Eternal will be out soon, with new high-res weapons rendered from 3D models and improvements on frustrating levels. Definitely play Rubicon for now and keep an eye on Eternal-related news. Rubicon is fun. Play it.
From what I saw, there was no form of Alephone capable files for those two scenarios. Is that so? Well if I get to it by the time of completing Infinity I think I'll still rty it out.
