So I once ran into a raid group...

I had nothing to do and still didn't have a 320 helmet so I figured I'd try and do an oryx challenge checkpoint with my friend (this friend isn't very good at surviving on plates and doesn't know how to run, idk why he isn't good at not dying on plates he just does, so I just make him stay on ad control up top with me even though he doesn't have a touch.) and we found a group, joined, and no one was saying anything so I asked if it was ok for me and my friend to be on ad control even though he's a hunter and explained that he doesn't know how to do anything else. I hear some loud Irish voice go,"well first of all sonny you won't be on ad control since you aren't the highest light (I was 317 and one light behind the highest), so I answered with an awkward ok and asked if my friend could stay on ad control because it's the ONLY THING HE CAN DO, and the irish guy just goes "no he's gonna be runnin since he's the lowest light" at which point my friend interrupted because he was confused just as much as I was due to the fact that I had already said he doesn't know how to do anything else, so I say to my friend "I guess you're gonna be running since you're the lowest light even though you don't know how" and the Irish guy answers with a quick "hey if you're goin to be a smart ass then you can just leave or we can kick you cause we won't be needin any of that in here". At which point me and my friend decided to silently leave because of how confused we were and we didn't wanna deal with people like that. What? Edit: The main problem with my friend isn't that he's unfamiliar with surviving on plates or that he doesn't know how to survive on them, it just seems like every enemy that spawns has a personal vendetta on him. He knows to help kill ogres with his sniper, and then kill his knight and go invisible if necessary to survive until the runner has the relic. But even all of that didn't keep him alive. I've watched him carefully and it looks like he's doing everything the way he was supposed to but even when everything seems to be going well for him, an acolyte eye might melt him out of nowhere or something. Edit: I guess the old types of raid groups from year one that weren't really bothered by something like this have all disappeared, I guess next time I'll just keep from burdening these types of players of their precious time and leave my friend out of it.

  • The best thing to do when using LFG or the recruiting forums is the be up front with people what you can and can not do. If you are looking to join someone else's party then get in the party chat before joining the Fireteam and tell them that way. There are plenty of people put there that don't mind people like your buddy you just have to be honest about it up front.

  • Show your friend this video I did to help new raiders on plates. It shows where to go on your plate and also where to snipe your knight. Hope it helps.

  • ??? You and your friend should learn all aspects of the raid.. Form a group of like minded individuals and skill abilities and take turns with the aura on warpriest..take turns with the gaze on golgoroth..and learn to jump counter clock wise..

  • Um, first, he should get malice. No reason not to... Especially if he refuses to learn to do anything else Second, he should learn other roles. Period. At least try and learn relic.

  • If you plan on doing group activities, the least you can do is learn how to jump. I don't get how people can expect to do a raid, when they can't even jump.

  • No excuses as to why your friend can't survive on plates. If he's a hunter he can throw down a vanish, or if he's a Titan he can pop that bubble. Obviously a warlock can just self res. The only time plates become difficult is when you're the only one on the front plates, your ogre takes ages to die and you run out of sniper ammo for the knight. Then the ship blasts you

  • The thing about acolyte eyes...they come from acolytes. I typically ignore acolytes, but put 1 sniper shot in any acolyte eye that shoots at me or the guy across from me. Your buddy should be able to do plate 2, as it is the easiest plate. 1 forces you to dodge Oryx, 3 forces you to hang around a little longer for your knight.

Pro tip for plate survival. When the light eater knight spawns, two taken acolytes spawn with / beside him. If you kill your knight AND kill the two acolytes with him, the acolyte eye WILL NOT spawn. Rocket or heavy machine gun works well. Even some experienced raiders still do not know this. Tell your fiend. It will save him.

  • Your friend can't survive on the plates, doesn't know how to run relic, doesn't have a ToM and you're upset that you weren't entitled to call the shots in an established raid group you joined? Wow.

    Excuse my language but,
fuck
those people. It's always better to peace out and find a better group, no sense in stressing while in a group like that. Good luck to you.

    • Learn everything. I can do ad control, runner,or any plate. It's not hard the hardest part would have to be ad control. Plates only reason they're a possible death is because of the ship or the axion dart from Taken centurions.

I would help you guys, wouldn't mind loosing a few times But your friend would learn or We wouldn't finish the raid, no carries

        • First off I would recommend you and your friend learn all the positions in the raid, honestly if your doing hard mode, you should be able to do multiple positions. But raid groups who can't compensate for that are honestly just as bad. If your going to lfg a raid group, and you don't have specific qualifications those people need to meet, you should be prepared for people who aren't, 320 God players. It's just not how it works.

        • Actually on the plate you can ignore the ogres if your dps is high enough. Plates job is to take out their knight and any acolytes/ eyes so that they don't get destroyed by them while waiting on plate. Only time plate needs to worry about ogres is if you drop to 5 people

          • Do what I did, and actually take the time to learn how to do every roll in the raid. (Runner, plates, gaze, and aura holder). You don't need to be perfect but good enough that if you get stuck with it, you can do it and not screw the team over.
Example: You get to sisters in the raid, and by chance no one knows how to run plates. In your situation you would stand there and do nothing or leave and ditch your team. And that's no good for anybody. If you learn, you could teach the team and not be the burden of everyone else, and if this chain continues, makes raiding just a little better for everybody
• It werent your group. You joined somebody elses group who may be limited for time. And you asked that your friend jon snow (he knows nothing) can run the main dps role taking down ogres on hm. And when your demands arent met its the groups problem? Sorry buddy. Your the problem in this story. Should have made your own group and asked for sherpas.

              • I would have your friend practice running or plates in Normal Mode before attempting a challenge in Hard Mode. With Hard Mode, most will assume you know what to do. I would expect hostility in the future if you drop the "My friend doesn't know how to do anything" w/o letting the group know beforehand again. There are also people willing to Sherpa Hard Mode challenges too. Plan accordingly for next time!

                • Running is the easiest part. They were right tbh. Lowest light should be the runner, because he doesn't need to fight pretty much at all.

                    • Well that sucks. Having said that, isn't normal mode where you want to familiarize yourself with mechanics? If your friend is having trouble on plates watch him, give him tips, tell him what you do to survive...now he knows plates. As far as running goes he could easily watch a video, or just ask if he can try running a few times (and say he doesn't know how yet) to get used to it.

                    • You were surprised how they acted when you told them your friend is inexperienced? Not everybody is gonna be lovey dovey some just want to get the raid done in a quick manner. Did you let this group know the situation before you joined?
