Loot is pretetermined after december patch.
So a friend of mine and me we're farming for some exotics (mainly the Bad Juju) when we both got an exotic leg armor engram. He had the theory that we'll get the exact same thing from the engrams and he was right. I don't think it's a coindidence since we both got the same type of engram and the same pair of boots.
EDIT: Yes, i know that there are only 4 pairs of boots in the game. But as someone stated in the comments below the same happened to him but with the twighlight garrison, weird isn't it?
EDIT: i am specifically addressing exotic engrams in this thread.

One day three of my friends my wife and myself all got exotic primary engrams and they all decrypted into 'Monte Carlo' Another time I got 3 arm engrams and 2 special engrams the arms all decrypted in ahamkarams arms an. The special was 4th horseman. I definitely believe they are preset or at least a higher chance for one on certain days.

More than 3 .....within days ( or a week ) bad juju Radiant dance machines Hereafter All hunter helmets The stag All warlock chest pieces So far....never repetititve primary engram drops It's stupid.... 4 RepliesJust going to say this once. RNG = RANDOM. For one, do you realm think bungie put that much effort into it? I still get legendaries and exotics for other classes, not because a different class got them, but because shit is RANDIM. Scareb emblem? RANDOM - watched a friend get it on his 8th win. Trials matchmaking? RANDOM. That's why you can face flawless teams on your first match. Do you seriously think bungie cares that much? So I herd j00 liek mudkips.

6 RepliesMy theory on RNG: The more you play, the less you get. And when you do get a drop, the light level is lower. If you dont play as much, you get more. And when you get something its a higher light level. Bungie wants the ppl who dont play that often to play more. And they give them better loot to try to keep them coming back. And for the ppl who play everyday, Bungie know they've already got their hooks in them. They know, ppl who play alot, will keep playing no matter how bad the RNG. Bungie knows that they will keep grinding to get to 320. So they give them crappy rewards to make it take longer to get there. Its just a theory, that's what i tell myself when i keep getting 310 light gear from hard mode. I cant remember the last time i got something over 315 from hard mode, aside from the challenges every week.

4 RepliesI sometimes transfer legendary engrams from one class to another. They ALWAYS decrypt for the class that turns them in, NOT the class that found them. You are wrong. It was just a coincidence.

9 RepliesYour theory is interesting but it isn't original. There has been a similar theory attempting to describe how RNG works as well as a dozen others when Croat was out. The beat theory that was ever introduced was: [spoiler]There are multiple RNG pools that when you create a character, that character gets randomly assigned to a pool. While playing with that character, you will receive rewards according to what is inside that pool as well as how many times you can get it. For example... My Titan gets Ghorn every other time I complete a raid because Ghorn is at 90% drop rate for RNG pool "A" but I can't seem to EVER get The Black hammer from Crota because it's a 10% drop rate in RNG pool "A". My Warlock however gets The black hammer every other raid because it drops at 90% drop rate for RNG pool "B" but I can't ever get Ghorn because it's a 10% drop rate for RNG pool "B". See where I'm going with this? It's not that you CANT get a specific weapon or armor or class item, it's that there is a low OR higher chance of getting a certain item based on your RNG pool.[/spoiler]

7 RepliesWrong, I get exotics on my hunter, and transfer them to my titan to get titan gear. I get exotics on my titan, I transfer them to my hunter for hunter gear. You just have bad luck.

9 RepliesMe and my roomate both got exotic chest armor engrams from tanniks the other day, both decrypted into a twilight garrison, I am a Warlock and he is a titan. So it might be a possible bug from getting the same drop simultaneously.

11 RepliesIf I remembered correctly bungie had stated rng would be smarter and the chance of someone getting an exotic item they didn't have would be higher. It's safe to say this isn't true or at least if it was after the patch it was lost in translation.
