A Story from The Vault of Glass: Book 1

This story below is a Tale I made describing a fireteams journey through the Vault of Glass. It took a while to make so be prepared for a long read. -August 10th 2603 Entry from Karus Rey Nothing that we heard mattered now. The stories, the legends... All where just mere tall tales and children's stories for what we are about to face. Most not dare do what we are now going to do. My team are all volunteers, mostly interested in understanding what goes on in this vault. But others claim to seek trophies, and go down in history as the ones who revealed it all. My team is well prepared for what we face in here. Or at least we believe we are. Nobody has gone into this vault and found either a way out, or let alone leave any trace of them inside from what I am told. Pormas, my best friend, my brother in arms, has joined us to seek knowledge as I am. I have known him since I was merely a child in the saftey of a wonderful home, untouched by the darkness. He was one of the later guardians to hold one of the Six fronts during the siege on the last city, I trust him not only with my life but with my knowledge that he will never leave my side. Yusuf Crotarian is one hell of a scout, he tracked a hive thrall 400 miles back to a hive fortress on the moon alone with nothing but his wit, hand cannon and a knife. I know he will be able to warn us about trouble ahead, and lead us in the right direction. Zarma Qua'ul, another keen warlock with more than just a wide range of knowledge and understanding up her sleeve, she also carries a nasty variety of deadly spells I would count to save me. She seeks to not only understand the Vault, but to clear it out enough for us to be able to walk in and out with no fear at all. Zartes Qua'ul, being Zarmas Brother, He is very protective of what she does. Always watching and always scouting out for danger. He being a Hunter caused most of his family to look down on him for not being so much of a scholar as his sister. But none the less, he was more than capable of handling himself. His specialty is firepower. I've never seen a Hunter carry so many weapons and ammunition as I do Zartes. Rockets, Bullets, grenades, smoke bombs, sniper rifles, trip mines, you name it he's brought more than one with him. I have now he has a specialized ghost that can access his vault from almost anywhere and teleport the item directly to him. We hope to use this in every ghost in the future. And finally there is me, Karus Rey. I am in the Warlock order along with my sister. My family or... What is left of it, is one of the highest and most respected warlocks of our time. I volunteered to go without question. I want to understand what is in this Vault. Imagine the knowledge! We could learn so much! It is every warlocks dream to find such discoveries. I will discover this Vault and make it out alive I promise you! The only regret of leaving is that I didn't tell Ikora I was leaving. I didn't want her to worry. She was my little sister always worrying about me. When the darkness came, I was the only one to protect her. I was the only one left in our bloodline. Our parents died saving our lives and I wasn't going to let the darkness take my sister away from me. If I let her know I was leaving, she wouldn't leave my side, if I do meet an untimely death down here, she should not be here to die with me or witness it. We located the entrance. Vex were patrolling the area. From my records obtained from the notes of previous warlocks before me, apparently we need to use our light to transfer energy through a plate to create a pillar of some sort, a key perhaps? Zartes and Zarma went together on the right cliff, it's was more open. So if trouble got too hot, Zartes would be able to help us all at our plates. I went alone at the front of the gate, and Yusuf and Pormas went to the left cave. As soon as I set foot on the plate, and as soon as we all did, we felt a strange weight being put on us, a tremor. Our light was channeling though us but into the plates. Clouds soon formed as the Vex sensed our presence and began to send reinforcements. We fought as we usually did. No harm really done. After some time the Open slab near the right cliff began to emit some kind of glow, almost like a arrangement of shapes and sorts. The longer our light channeled into the plates, the larger the spire became. With another 4 minutes of moderate fighting, the spire took a solid form instead of its frame. The weight on us away lifted so quickly we were almost thrown into the air. The ground began to shake. We all quickly grouped together around me. The spire was sending a channel of energy to the gates center. 12 minutes on each plate, vex reinforcements moderate. Make use of the knowledge of weight? Light channels could possibly be examined? The gate, it was opening. Zarma muttered: "that wasn't much of a fight now was it?" We were happy to know somebody was going to make us laugh a bit along this expedition. The gate began to open, bottom shifting into plates from 6 o'clock and out clockwise and counter clockwise. Then it's was silent, the shaking stopped the Vault is opened. We were waiting for one of us to move. It wasn't fear that held us back. It was the thought that this journey has now officially started and there is no time for turning back now. I slowly walked towards the entrance with my friend Pormas right next to me. Then the rest of the team. We walked in with our eyes wide open, taking in the beauty of the vaults first area. So intrinsic and beautiful. The light gleamed in through the ceiling shining on a plant bed growing on Vex technology. The vines twisted and turned through the constructs and made a symbiotic bond that seemed almost perfect. We walked further through the cave only to realize the height we were at. We looked over one of the edges and saw at least 1 mile down until the mist blurred out vision. We were going to be careful. Yusuf was now going to take point. He was less interested in the beauty of the Vault but more with how to get deeper into it. Enthralled by the plant life with the machines and light we soon came closer to seeing less plant life the deeper we went. Yusuf nearly gave us heart attack when all he did was stop abruptly in his tracks. Amazed that such a Scout could only sense something so quick made us uneasy. "I don't like it" he said all of us frozen, I walked up to him and whispered "what is it? Vex?" He quickly responded, "No, I don't think we should go that way at all... Too small, not enough knowledge of that cave to go though without expecting an ambush." Nobody was going to argue with him, anything that scared this man would certainly be the end of us. We searched for another route to go on thinking there was no other way but the cave. Eventually we realized alternate route was just beneath us. Zarma happened to find a almost hidden entrance near the cliff next to us. Yusuf got his rope for us to rappel on and we were all in the entrance. For some reason, we felt more comfortable seeing the vegetation. It was almost like a sense of hope and safety in its beauty. This was unbelievable. Not only did the light glisten more in this area, but it even stopped our Boy Scout in his tracks. We couldn't just move on. We all agreed to just sit down and eat for a while before heading in. It's funny. You wouldn't expect a bunch of guardians to just sit around in the Vault of Glass, let alone any territory they didn't know. But we took a break next to a fully grown tree farther down. We couldn't believe that anyone could meet a terrible fate here. It almost seemed like the gardens in my old city during the golden age. Wile sitting down we all talked about what we will do after we finish this expedition. Pormas said he would write all his findings in a book and send it to the archives to be stored there safely. Yusuf said he would come home with the best trophy to put on his mantle and come back a hero. Zarma and Zartes both said they would write a book about the journey they had and the triumphs they made. When they asked what I would do after I got home, I said. "I'm going to give my little sister the biggest hug she's ever gotten" and they all groaned and moaned about how prissy that was. But I meant that. I was really already missing my sister. I've always been at home at the vanguard table with here beside me as I teach her how to read the scrolls. I couldn't wait to get back to that. We eventually took in all the scenery and got down to business. We were puzzled a few moments on what platform to make it too next but we eventually made it through a small cave. We were expecting a narrow space until we were proven wrong beyond belief. Massive, gigantic, and immense. The cave we walked into was enough to fit the traveler into 10 fold. We looked down and saw an area far below that seemed to have another gate next to it. We jumped down carefully and set foot on to the next area. We made to my opinion the wrong move. Shaking and rumbling soon followed our arrival. Then, the loudest roar I've ever heard a vex create in my life time was sounded. We all covered our heads in pain. A structure formed infront of us. It was glowing. It was another conflux. Vex appeared in the hundreds, Roars and cries of the Vex filled the air, and something much worse landed in our sight. The biggest Vex Hydra we have ever seen... Stared into us. I looked down next to me Several pairs of bones lay next to me. This was the Vault of Glass... This was our Test to make it back home. We are going to fight it.
