Leveling System = Trash

Youre still not reading the edit so lemme just emphasize::: Edit at the top: I KNOW infusion exists. Unfortunately, infusion only takes a percentage of the total light value. I infused a 307 and got 304 out of it. Thats not efficient in the slightest. I dont mean for raids or anything, Im not complaining about LFG, Im talking about choice. With the new system, I dont get a choice of what gun I want to use. I dont get a choice of what armor I wear. Im stuck with whatever the hell gives me the highest light. Remember when the stats on your crucible gear mattered? Especially for IB? Well now youre wearing raid gear for that. Remember when the perks on your guns mattered to you? Sorry, stuck with a rocket launcher without javelin and with 1 rocket per tube because the good rocket launcher you have is too low. This needs to be changed. I'll admit I have no idea how to fix it, but it needs to be. Im stuck wearing the ugliest shit and the most useless guns because I have no other choice. Bump if you agree, maybe someone will see this and take it into consideration. The problem with infusion is that if my best secondary is a sniper and my shotgun is 290, then Id have to sacrifice my sniper for my shotgun. If infusion didnt completely destroy the infused item, itd be better. But it does.
When your highest light secondary is a sidearm
I have a few problems with the system. Raid drops aren't based on your light-level. If I'm 302, I shouldn't get a 300 weapon. It should always drop no lower than your current light. I'm fine with the rate of infusion, but the currency cost is too much. Have one or the other, but when both are implemented, it's a punishment for infusing. And give us a way to get exotic shards. Why'd Xur stop selling them?

    • Drops may be frustrating, I know it, but this system is 10x better than what it was. I don't have to wear that ugly Crota gear or those sissy looking Skolas boots. I do wish some of the Rares were the Legendaries, but at least there's variety now. Max light doesn't matter as much now with 10 light being roughly equivalent to 1 level in the past, so just have fun playing, remember it's a game.

    • This system is why I quit playing like I used to. Stuck at 305 go into the raid only for the bosses to spam shards and 300 gear. Wtf? I know crotas end wasn't very generous but at least I knew that if I ran the raid I would get gear at max light level.

    • Seriously.. How idiotic is it to hope and pray for say the boots you have wanted, only to have them drop at the same exact level as your current boots

      • It is the same as before with smaller penalties to Light. Also it is now infinitely easier to gear up alts without the raid.

        • The thing I don't like. Is that they said it's going to be easier to make max level (40) so you're not restricted based on lucky drops. But now. In the raid. We're relying on not ONLY getting the armor. But rolling that armor WITH good defense. So it makes it twice as hard...

          • The only conclusion I come to after reading this text is that you emphasise the same point and argument like 300 times. Other than that go grind (new GG). If you have a good shotty at 280 you just go out for a xouple of strikes or court of oryx or whatever and then you'll have a bunch of 290+ blues and just infuse. Like it or not but it's the same for all;-)

            • I've found that every raid I do lets me bump my light level up a little bit, and lets me get my other non-raid gear a little higher and increases my options for different high-ight loadouts. Its not big jumps but at least I can see gradual progress rather than doing endless vault runs just trying to get one piece of armour that never drops. Its about finding a balance between vanilla, where you were entirely at the mercy of RNG in order to get drops you needed, with TDB and HoW where it was far too easy to reach max level. Now getting drops is still very important, but you can at least use the useless stuff you get to make other things you might like more more effective.

              • Year 1 was hoping for raid RNG to get to level 30 Year 2 is now hoping for raid RNG to drop something and RNG to give you enough light! So we're dependent on RNG twice this time around which infuriates the shit out of people. Basically double RNG, on top of adding 10 extra levels for just hard mode Kings Fall.

Infusion results in a 80% gain. Study math and you'll know exactly how your character will progress, assuming you get a higher light drop every time.

Someone should have done their due diligence and saved and made plans before infusing. It's a gradual increase in gain and I for one found my favourite, most versitle, armor and weapons, horded any and all higher level gear and approached it in baby steps. I haven't even raided and I've had light level gear drop at 300+ and my main is currently running 300 in gear with perk sets beneficial for both PvP and PvE. Any and all 300+ gear that will drop or has dropped will be saved until I'm in a range that maximises the benefit of infusion. I'm not going to infuse a piece of gear that's 297 with a 310. Baby steps and time. No hand outs. Play the game.

                  • Same as any other MMO. You hit max level and then work on item (Light) level.

                  • its not efficient that way because you didnt think about before you did it, you shouldve gotten that weapon/gear to 302 and then infused the 307 into there to get the item to 307

                  • You literally have this backwards. Im Vanilla you couldn't increase something's light level. Now you can. In Vanilla everyone was wearing raid gear. Now you can take that same taid gear with whatever shitty roll you got and infuse it into the gear you like. I don't even underatand understand how you came to your conclusions.

                    • I've done kings fall on normal(have only made it to golgoroth so far I know it's sad...) but I use the shell and I infused my raid fusion rifle into my Susanoo. Even if the item I get isn't good for infusing, it's still more weapon parts(I busted all my weapon parts on FWC rep). There were a few days where I went up 2 or 3 levels because of infusing, and nightfalls they are helpful too, and I'm 304 light because of infusing(yeah I could have just wore the armor I infused, but what's the fun in that?) plus I may wear the raid armor not because of the light, but because it looks cool

The system is quite okay in my opinion. In order to hit max light level, you have to play endgame content to get it. It is pretty stupid to think that little Jimmy can get to 320 just by running around the Mothyards and getting 320 gear off scrub vandals in a few minutes. You don't need to be 320 to be able to enjoy non-hard mode raid content. You don't even need to be 300! You can easily be 290-300 just by farming blue engrams and you'll be able to play everything short of KF hard mode. You can also easily get purple weapons with more than one perk from legendary marks. I don't understand your problems when the solutions are right there.

The "Light" system is effectively the same "level" system that Bungie had for Yr1 that we all hated and criticized with one small twist. With the old system people hated that your level was initially based on progression, but was ultimately dependant on gear from one source, making any variety non existent (plus some low tier/level players also didn't like having to raid boost their light level, but without a high light level, they basically can't raid; thx to some LFG posters). New system is 99% the same, with the small twist that after you grind enough, you might get enough garbage to infuse other legendary items up to the same level as the raid gear letting you have some variety. In practice this is flawed as, why the hell would anyone scrap my highest their gear that gives me perks for highest tier activities, for what is usually very basic armour.
