Missing sound on 360 post update

So I'm one of the poor last gen souls with a 20GB Xbox 360. I applied (and received) a 32GB usb from the activision help article. I have the digital download of the base game and so moved that to the memory stick and fired up the game and download comparability packs 5-8. With the game fired up however I noticed I was missing a lot of the sound effects; enemies and their guns were silent, my characters effort noises (jumping, hitting obstacles etc) were gone, ship noises etc. NPC voices in the tower remain, as well as boomer blasts strangely. The soundtrack is ok. I tried off/on with the console, no such luck; however, when the game initially starts before the title screen a terminal prompt type screen with 'oops something bad happened /' for a moment before continuing. I also tried uninstalling everything destiny and re installing, which did not help. I also tried moving all the game files to the usb. In all instances I had the same issues with the same oops message at start up. Help would be great, it's hard to know an attacks coming when it's always silent!

  • I know your post is a bit dated but I’m responding in case it can help others with the same problem. I ran into this issue on my 20 GB Xbox 360. I could not hear sound on any weapons except for auto rifles. And many of the ambient sound effects were absent as well. Some have suggested the problem is caused by installation and update files running from a USB drive. That could be a factor. However, as far as I can tell, the problem was caused by a combination of the older gen (20 GB) Xbox 360 with no HDMI port and the digital download version of Destiny. As a last ditch effort to resolve the problem, I pulled the DVD version of the game off my shelf and put it in the console. Instead of starting Destiny from “My Games”, I started it by selecting the Destiny DVD tile on the home screen. The game started and applied a small 175 MB update. After the update was applied and the game started up, the problem was resolved. So if you have an old Xbox 360 with these sound problems, run the game from disk instead of digital download and it will likely resolve your issues.
