Here's what bungie thought:
"Hmmm we need to kill their favorite weapons but not just in pve let's just screw every year one players arsenal to the point they wouldn't even use them in PvP! Hahaha that'll teach them to cry nerf and say deej sucks!!"
I'm guessing that was bungies thinking.

What they were thinking was that in year two those weapons are obsolete. You can still use them but their damage will still be year 1 and will be staying that way. So if you're going to use those old weapons in year two, then have fun trying to keep up with the rest of us in light levels.

Actually simply by the new lvl system those weapons are bound to be left behind. They just nerfed everything across the board in order to balance things out.cause year one weapons were very powerful
