Are strikes with people AFK a problem and does it need to be adressed by Bungie.

I agree that Bungie needs to deal with inactive players.

2515

I don't think it's such a problem.

567

I agree and I like the 1st rule.

112

I agree and I like the 2nd rule.

48

I agree and I like both rules.

56

I agree and maybe like some rules or not, but I'd like to suggest a different rule.

Everybody has come across one of these players during a strike, you enter a strike and you start running towards the first objective but you notice that at least one person from your fireteam isn't doing anything. Yeah we're dealing with someone who is AFK and just want to be a leech. Basically people are like to enter a strike, watch tv and enjoy the reqards afterwards when about 15 minutes have passed. Some even take measures to not be disconnected for standing still for to long by holding their thumbstick in an angle so they start walking. I don't mind having one person leave as a new person can join halfway the strike, the thing I'm personally anoyed by are these leeches. Bungie needs to think of something that will deal with these people such as adding a rule that will make that person actively take part in the strike. Rules such as: 1st rule: You need to be inside the boss room at the end within a certain amount of time when 1 or both other fireteam members enter this room or you will be kicked. Basically like adding a 6 minute timer when the first person enters and change it to 3 minutes when the second person enters the room. 2nd rule: You need to do at least x amount of damage in the strike or you won't receive any rewards. (People who enter midgame have to do less amount of damage). Everyone should be able to achieve this certain amount of damage even if they've never gotten a kill in that strike. As a part of the fireteam you need to be doing your part by adsisiting the other two guardians. Some people may say that deaths will decrease the possibility to achieve that score since you're out of the game, but then that means you're not actively taking part in your fire team and merely acting as a lone wolf. It's the risk you take. I hope I get positive reactions and that people agree that Bungie needs to deal with this.

  • I think it's been getting worse of late. Dragon strikes are fun as well as being great for loot, but some folk are just there for the loot. What they then do with their prizes I don't know if they don't want to shoot at stuff, all a bit pointless. Anyway, report and move on. Regular offenders will appear on Bungie's radar, players answering the phone etc won't.

  • I don't play strikes anymore because of AFKers.

  • Report. Move on. They actually ban people from strikes for a few weeks if they've found to do this. Can tell you're new.

    • When TTK drops, afk players will be teleported to the next checkpoint after you reach it. And they will be kicked for inactivity eventually.

    • This week doing Dragons I had someone run the whole strike. I assumed he was shooting things and there was always 3 of us in the thick of the action. On the rewards screen he had 1 kill and 1 assist. His reward was 1 legendary scout rifle and of course, a Gjallahorn. His first. I checked.

      • I don't think a ban is reasonable, but I think the automatic return to orbit should have more strict enforcement. For example... A timer starts when you are outside of a certain range of your teammates that boots you after 3-5 min. If you had to take a call or do something, no big deal, no punishment, just start another strike. But you couldn't abuse the system that way.

      • I do not like the first rule as it rewards the bladedancers that just cloak and run to the end of the strike. (I tend to get left behind when with people like that as I enjoy shooting things).

They should be banned from all matchmaking and multiplayer: if they want to abuse that privilege, they can go do all Strikes, Raids, Nightfall, etc. by themselves. In fact, they should make it so they can't create fireteams or join other people's fireteams. /forever

        • I once had to deal with an AFKer in skirmish. After awhile i decided to start hitting his prone body and guess what, he started attacking me and then we got killed. He stayed afk the rest of the match. I assume he was lazily grinding the complete 5 skirmish bounty. I also reported him cause if thats how your gonna play then dont -blam!-ing play at all

          • I might go AFK for a brief moment if my parents need me for something, but I don't just leech. I'll participate as much as I can in a strike. My main point is yes, leeches need to be dealt with. And the best way to deal with them is salt. Like what these forums produce.

            • This has been addressed by Bungie before. It was addressed on Bungie Weekly Update 04/02/2015. It's under the heading Quitters Never Win.
This week, we’ve restricted a small number of the most toxic players from matchmaking. The restrictions we’re putting on their accounts are temporary and apply only to the activities where they were chronically idle. If the affected players keep up this behavior after the restrictions lapse, we will apply stronger and (eventually) permanent restrictions on their accounts.
• I think a way to fix this is to make it clearer to other players what activity you are interested in doing BEFORE you load it. So you could look through your roster and see someone is in orbit around Dragon Strikes, or someone is in orbit around the Crucible - and they need one or two more players and whatnot. That way you can see who is doing things that are people you have already played with and can delete if they are a jerk.

              • AFK players are a nuisance, but, I'd rather an AFK player than 2 runners. I absolutely despise the guys who wanna run passed all the enemies. It's bad enough there's not much content, but for fúcks sake AT LEAST FÚCKING PLAY WHAT CONTENT THERE IS!! Running for a 1 in 3000 chance at that one exotic you need...just stop. Killing enemies might net you it sooner with engram drops. Your two rules might help, but I'd like more strikes that force you to stay and kill enemies like Undying Mind and Dust Palace. More like that would be nice.

                • Game Informer wrote that Bungie is going to try something like in PoE, where inactive players get teleported ahead with everyone else. Probably similar to co-op in Halo. I'm skeptical that will solve the problem, because I've encountered many players in PoE that just go and hide until the round us complete. I'll continue to report them and leave good feedback for good players, because that's really all I can do.

                  • I once did a random level 32 heroic, BOTH MEMBERS WERE INACTIVE THE ENTIRE GAME! They moved their thumbsticks every now and then since I saw them move an inch, and after half way, I went back, saw them with the leaning controller. (Moving forward and looking in circles)

                  • Won't receive any rewards as opposed to what? That may not be the proper carrot to dangle, since even finishing or solo-ing might get you a shader and a glove or something. I am surely not rewards-driven for strikes, since it's almost always crap.
