Of recent I found myself striving to get those elusive Top 1%'s in some playlists, and as I was attempting this I noticed that many people had not shown respect to other players' playstyles. My teammates constantly dogged on others for their tactics and gear and spewed insults constantly. I want to resolve this issue with some close friends and myself. Here are MY guidelines to behaving like a good sport and becoming a better player. This is not a "Rule Book" for other players, this is just a guide that I will follow and wish to share my thoughts on.
1. Celebratory dances, squats, etc. shouldn't be taken as insults. You were a good enough opponent for the enemy to recognize your skill. It may be of ill-will but this is what I will take from it.
2. I won't pick people out for using weapons of choice, as I could easily use the same weapon.
3. I may lose, but there's no one/nothing to blame for it.
4. Every teammate is important, as is every enemy. Even if you feel you may lose, or you won't get desired stats.. don't leave. It only makes it harder for your former team to win. And if you DO decide to leave make sure your fellow squad-mates know if they want to stay instead of interrupting their game.
5. We ALL have our opinions, but they don't ALL need to be shared.
6. Enter Fireteam Chat whenever possible, in doing so you can communicate and use synergy with your teammates.

7. Boosting morale and keeping a positive outlook among teammates is always a good thing to do.
(Suggested by: Abyssal King)
8. Trash talk isn't needed, it's a game and nothing more. Let your gun do the talking.
(Suggested by: BAMAGILMORE)
9. Do NOT jump to conclusions against people, there's always a reason behind what's happening.

This list could go on, so why don't you help it? I could add future suggestions and make the list larger. Feel free to comment a suggestion or critique already existing guidelines.

The wave is an absolutely derogatory move lol. I use it when i absolutely wreck you. Killed 2 bladedancers with 1 shotgun blast they get the wave. Killing a final round abuser he gets the wave. A self res dress wearing bitch gets the nuts in their mouth... slowly

Edited by Adam: 8/6/2015 9:56:53 PMI disagree with some parts, but you have the right idea If I come against people that do nothing but blink shotgun though, they're gonna get tea-bagged. Same with Final Rounders. You don't want to be 1% dude. It's hard to mess around and have fun with quirky guns when every single game all you face are blink-shotgunners with Thorn & Arcbolt spam.... I'm just using NLB & a sniper from now on. Screw stats, I want fun! Plenty of the top guys I've played against take the game, and themselves WAY too seriously too lol

For me I like to sit down when the match ends. I really try not to go for kills afterwards. But now if someone takes that little space of time to start shooting me then I fire back.

I'm glad you posted this as I was going to ask a question on the form about PvP etiquette and thought here might be a good place to ask. I don't play PvP a whole lot—I'm honestly not that great at it and have fun with it every once in a while. I feel like I contribute about middle of the pack in 6v6 (middle to bottom 3v3). I've mostly been playing PvP to get my Bad Juju. I had a situation arise last night where I was a few minutes into a game and my wife had an emergency with my 1 yr old son. So I had to stop what I was doing and help out. I didn't have much time to think about what to do so I put the controller down and went to help (i.e. my character still in the match but doing nothing). Would it have been better for me to drop out of the match before I put the controller down?

Like when someone says "why did you use your self res there?"..... Because I meant to get fisted by a titan and lose the round...
-
Like the concept, but I have an issue with 3. There is always a reason why you lost and not the other team. There is never a reason to rage about it though. Accept and learn. Review is a big part of getting better at PvP.

I have an issue with #4 Your aware that the vast majority of people remain outside of team fire chat for whatever reason and wont hear you announce your departure anyway. A good point of etiquette would be to make sure you enter fireteam chat, and communicate.
-
moral support should be done as well even if its a simple "we can do this" can bring people to beleive it can be won and completed ive always done that with my team and before u no it 9-0 in trials so thats something to help
-
What about T-bags?
-
9. Don't blame your team mates on you dying be more observant of your surroundings
-
Ahh you are one of those guys. Im guessing; blink, shotgun, thorn/TLW and bladedancer.
-
Everything except #1 is good, but I take issue with the word "squats" if you mean Teabagging, #1 is the opposite of what you were trying to go for.
-
How will this make me a better player again? Maybe a good priest, but warlocks are master magicians so these rules don't apply. ( didn't find anything useful as in tactics and guns either...)
-
I bag to insult and nothing else, only on mindless titans or when I dodge a panic super or kill a super.
-
8. If someone trash talks you, respond with tact instead of insults or "u mad bro."
-
#7 There's nothing more aggravating than when people bitch and complain. If my teammates are constantly complaining it just makes me want to leave and find another group. Groups where people complain and blame are not winning groups. In ToO, I know within the first two games if the group can go flawless or not because of their attitudes (and K/D of course).
-
I never miss leg day.
-
Then you realize that no one uses voice chat. Also dancing is like destiney's tbagging if you don't openly do it. Same with the awokens bow. There is nothing respectful about someone doing that after they kill you.

Honestly i smiled. Well done. Personally, i think the majority of the Destiny PvP community is all striving for that pretty-top 5%-onyx-division in their playlist of choice. Its the only thing keeping me interested at this point. *What Bungie should do as of TTK is add this as an in game feature, as well as true skill, similiar to that of Halo 3. It would be an eaaaaasy addition as the algorithm and players are already in the tracker database. This could then be implemented into a true skill matchmaking, perfecto. As for your rules, i agree. Too many take the waves/dances etc, as some degratory move. When in reality its just good ol' competition. And for guns? I hate when people say "hes using thorn....no skill" "oooooh last word...no skill" "blink shotgun...no skill". Youd be insane, at this stage of the game, to use anything other than those weapons.
