Why would you waste an upgrade on gear that isn't legendary?
If you have 3 characters than you need 9 upgrades just to hit max level on all 3, not to mention the legendary weapons there are to upgrade. It just seems like a waste to blow an upgrade on a rare or uncommon weapon.
If there is any uncommon or rare weapons you like using in the Crucible than they will continue to work the same because attack values don't mean anything in the crucible. Using rare and uncommon gear in end game PVE activities is just ridiculous anyway.

331 weapons will be completely viable in a level 34 strike or activity. So you don't need to upgrade weapons until the next DLC.

ok i will go overdrive explanation mode for you so buckle up. the current model for upgrading = the new way to level gear is an orb you get from a drop do we really need to be so technical on how you get to "MAX LEVEL" armor at this point is just a wardrobe in which we use items acquired in end game content to make end game gear. plus if you want raid weapons thats what raids are for! in general the system we used to have day one = use common gear to get uncommon, use uncommon to get rare, use rare to get to level 20 and obtain legendary gear, use legendary gear and rare gear to finish VOG until you acquire full set of vog gear CE DLC = use VOG legendary gear in crotas End to get more legendary gear HOW DLC = use crotas end gear to acquire etheic light in the trials of Osiris, Iron banner, strikes, and the prison of elders in order to level up all legendary gear to the new max attack and light level value. up until now its been relatively simplistic and underwhelming in the reasons we strive for gear, but i think its really funny how bungie decided to add all this new rare and uncommon gear in crotas end and not tell anyone. why make blue gear if its only used for a small portion of the game, why make a rarity system if legendary and exotic is all we strive for? why make a gear upgrading system if older gear holds no importance anymore? its not about value, its not about time, it is about what the community wants to use and finding a way to make that weapon usable, people like the kostov so upgrade it, people use blue weapons in crucible because of stats so upgrade it, there is literally no point left in questioning what is and is not a waste of resources anymore!

I still don't see the need to have a better version of lesser quality gear. If you like a rare weapon in the crucible, because of its stats, upgrading the attack won't do anything for that weapins because attack values mean nothing in the crucible. There is more than enough iron banner gear, vendor gear, raid gear to have a huge selection of great legendary gear to upgrade. Rare and Uncommon gear not only lacks the higher attack values that legendary and exotics do but they also lack all the perks that make these weapons great. All the legendary weapons are based on uncommon and rare models so if there is a rare weapon you like than there is a legendary weapon with almost identical stats you can use.
-
stats is what im talking about there are blue weapons that outclass most legendary equipment, and the addition of reforging can allow blue weapons to transform into legendary while receiving perks as well, the only thing holding them back is having a lower attack value and rarity. and you do know upgrading with etheric light moves all legendary gear to the new max light level and attack value of 365 right?

Edited by Big_Zimm: 4/27/2015 7:20:25 AMI do know that etheric light upgrades weapons to 365, which is why I don't see why someone would waste it on upgrading a rare or uncommon weapon if given the option. As far as weapons stats being better on some rare and uncommon weapons I don't see that at all. Most all rare and uncommon weapons have a much smaller magazine size compared to its legendary counterpart. If there's a rare or uncommon weapon you like than there is most likely a Legendary weapon with almost identical stats. All that being said, if you're talking about creating a way to transform rare and uncommon armour into legendary armour that might be interesting. I like what Bungie did with the husk of the pit was interesting and more of that would be cool, But just upgrading rare and uncommon gear still seems pointless to me.
-
yes thats is what this whole post is about moving common weapons up the rank it could work in many ways ethic light is just the easiest i could come up with for bungie to create without making a completely separate process but yes the husk method works just fine!
-
Ahhhh, ok. I don't really consider that "upgrading." That's more evolving rare and uncommon weapons. When you talk about "upgrading" that's more of what we're doing to legendaries and exotics where the attack value is increased but the weapon stays the same.

just trying to make things fit for bungie without having them make a whole new process for every blue piece of gear ya know?
