Let's talk origins: The friendly races

There are currently four friendly races that could be found around the tower: the humans, awoken, exo, and our one and only jovian, xur. We can play as three of them and to mine, and a few others, dismay they do not offer any change other than appearance. Personally I feel each of these should have a higher stat each.
awoken: agility Human: strength Exo: recovery
Prior the existence of the traveler and maybe prior the existence of enemy alien races there was only humans. The traveler came and gave us the golden age, using it's mysterious abilities it terraformed planets that we could never live on before. Most importantly is Jupiter.
The Greeks knew him as Zeus, the Romans Jupiter, but an lesser known name of his was Jove
Living on out away from earth, or maybe a residual effect of the traveler caused the people who lived there to become an entirely new race. I can only assume it was over generations. This new race was called the Jovians, and fell as the darkness attacked. The humans on earth knew of the darkness and it's arrival, some tried to flee. These people were lost in the reef(the asteroid belt between mars and Jupiter) and were changed instantly into the awoken. They are torn between the light and the dark, the ones in the reef can be assumed to waver closer to the dark, while earth born more towards the light. Lastly we have the exo race. This race is entirely robotic, more of an android though. They have feeling and sentient thought. They were created much like the frames that sweep around the tower with a purpose. They were built to fight for a long forgotten war, self aware, but nevertheless shut down. During the collapse they were rebooted to fight once more, their memories gone even they don't know why they fight. What would everyone else like to hear about? Any direct questions, please go The Collective of Knowledge must be opened in browser feel free to join and be very active on it's forums. The goal is to become the place to discuss lore in a friendly and thoughtful environment.

  • Legends 2 speaks of a compact between the survivors of the cis-Jovian colonies and an alien force. Is it a possibility that Xur is one of these aliens and not an altered human. The reason he is allowed to visit the tower might be because the Vanguard are aware of this compact making the aliens and survivors one facet of nine, in an alliance against the darkness. The human survivors don't come because they are either unable to make such a trip or unwilling to risk it. Or possibly there is a sinister aspect to the compact that the Vanguard allow because they can't do anything about it or overlook because of the value of the items he brings. Which might also explain why he is not openly welcomed into the tower. The reason he comes might not be so much to help us but, simply to gather the strange coins, which probably aren't coins at all, for the aliens own agenda.

  • I was under the impression that "Jovians" was referring to the gas giants beyond the asteroid belt, since that term is used that way in astronomy. I never considered that Jovian might be referring to beings that live out there. That might explain what Xur is, though.

I agree with the origins. I would like to propose a slightly different theory, or more add on. The jovians I think left earth and lived out on Saturn and Jupiter. When Bob came along the darkness swept over everything. The traveler pushed away bob for a short time while weakening itself. This rapid change from light to dark aggressively effected the Jovians. The awoken fled to the reef. There they were trapped between light and dark. They feared to go further but could not turn back. So they lived in the reef. The Darkness was on the edge of the reef and leaked in some places. This border of light and Darkness caused the change in the awoken. Over a period of time they became different. After they changed awoken came back to earth and were reborn in light. I do wonder, If these races can be born into light, who else can?
