Vault of Glass hidden lore, and secrets!

Hey, so I thought I could get the clan forums started with some cool information most people don't know about the Vault of Glass. It was originally posted by a Reddit user by the name of "TheJunglerReddit". Its quite the read but trust me its worth it. There's some really interesting stuff in here: I've been intrigued by the secrets of the VoG for some time, and after reading many posts and doing a lot of exploration myself, I'm convinced there is something more to discover, hidden very, very well by Bungie. I won't go in to everything that's been discovered so far here, you probably know it all already, and if not i've put links at the bottom, but here's the essence of what i'm thinking about the Mythoclast. The VoG is the only mission in the game that doesn't automatically kick you to orbit once it's completed, and the rewards listings on the mission select screen still appear, even after completing on hard, implying there is more loot to find that so far no one has. Every other mission (particularly weekly heroic and nightfall strikes) lose their rewards lists once completed and received. Also Bungie are notorious for putting ridiculously complicated easter eggs into their Halo games. There has been much focus on the dormant portal beside the jumping puzzle, the gorgons, and the mysterious red lights that are dotted around the vault and which emit sparks when shot. But so far nothing new has been discovered with these. Also the chest that only spawns if the Templar is killed without teleporting leads me to believe that the remaining secrets are also contingent on certain requirements being met, however vague that may be! My theory is that the Vex Mythoclast is somehow the key, either on its own or used in conjunction with raid gear. Here's why: It is only awarded from completing the VoG on hard, and even then is still a rare drop. It makes sense for the key to the final secret(s) of the vault to only be made available to the most committed and successful raiders, rather than be stumbled upon by a level 25 first-timer. The end of the grimoire card reads: "Its origins, mechanism of action, and ultimate purpose remain unknown. Perhaps it will reveal itself to you, in time...". Now that sounds like a clue, right? It is not just a weapon, but a tool, and is even described as a "Vex instrument". I believe its 'ultimate purpose' is to reveal the secrets of the VoG. And "in time" may be a pun, suggesting its use within the portals during or after the Atheon battle. The patterns around the edge of the scope very much resemble the jagged edges of a Vex portal gate. Not only that but there are two distinct 'rings' within the scope. The inner ring rotates clockwise when aiming to the left, and anti-clockwise when aiming to the right. The outer ring rotates clockwise when aiming up, and anti-clockwise when aiming down. The patterns on both rings are split into 3 repeated sections each, and the angle of rotation of the rings is mapped to the angle of your aim. For example, aim the mythoclast at a distinctive point of the map, the edge of a rock of something, and make a mental note of one part of the pattern of the inner ring. Now aim 360 degrees left or right, and come to rest on the same point of the same rock. The pattern will be in the exact same place. Now what's interesting (or is maybe a further clue somehow) is that the pattern is not from the same section, as there are 3 sections in each ring, containing the same pattern. Lets call the sections A, B and C. Note the pattern at the point on the rock as from section A, rotate 360 degrees, it is now at the same place in the pattern but on section C. It spins 2 sections for every full turn. 240 degree ring rotation for 360 degree aim rotation. Now why might this be relevant? Because line of fire can now be mapped, communicated, and reproduced. Imagine standing on a certain point and aiming at a certain point. The rings on the scope will line up exactly the same for everyone doing that. Maybe i've just watched too much stargate but that sure sounds like a good way to open a portal to me. I've yet to check this out myself but in one of the links below they say the pattern in the ceiling above the chests in the gorgon's layer resembles the scope "almost exactly" - [debunked - it doesn't]. So what happens if you aim up and move around until the rings on the scope are aligned? I WANT TO KNOW, THAT'S FOR SURE. [edit] Just had a thought while reading this back, that if 2 guardians were stood facing each other, or back to back, at the same height, that the inner and outer scope rings for both of them should match perfectly. Could the triangle on the door and floor of the entrance to the Atheon boss room play a part? How about the markings on the floor and ceiling of the chest rooms? Or the dormant portal? There are also patterns in the scope and body of the mythoclast that are 3 dots in a perfect triangle. A clue to positioning maybe? [edit 2]: also is that why you have to have 3 guardians in the labyrinth for it to be darkness zone and to allow you to continue? So 3 guardians with mythoclasts in one of the chest rooms, lined up with the pattern on the ceiling and...? The pocket infinity exotic fusion rifle is hinted to basically be a guardian-made knock-off of the Vex Mythoclast, and is described as a 'doorway' in the grimoire card. It also has an interesting 5-pointed star in the scope (with the 6th point being the centre dot) maybe it's a clue to positions needed to stand in to get the right angles? The red lights dotted throughout the vault have a passing resemblance to the red lights on the mythoclast, maybe if all the red lights are shot with a mythoclast something will be revealed at the end? What happens if Atheon (or any/all bosses) is killed with a fireteam of 6 guardians all using Mythoclasts? Maybe the door will reopen and the portal can be activated? It would be poetic justice for the secret to be contained in killing Atheon with the very super-weapon previously looted from him in the hardest challenge in the game. Maybe a combination of raid gear and the mythoclast has something to do with it, seeing as the helmet can only be gained from hard mode as well? The gorgons / greek myths. I've already waffled on too much to explain everything here, but the naming conventions of the Aegis shield, Gorgons and other things are surely no coincidence? Maybe the mythoclast can help crack that puzzle too. Anyway, if anyone's up for doing some test raids i'm on PS4, id: TheJungler. I have a level 30 hunter with full raid gear, a level 30 titan with a mix of raid and iron banner gear, and a mythoclast fully levelled, amongst many other weapons. Let me know if you think i'm on to something, or completely crazy! Cheers. --- And thats it! let me know what you guys think, I found this [b]very[/b] intriguing and really do feel there's more to the Vault then anyone knows. (Except Bungie of course :P)

  • After you kill atheon on hard and everyone celebrates and let's say u blast the ground with a ghorn u die, u can't come back or respawn I mean... i jus killed atheon on hard and I was messing around in the Venus portal and I jumped off the edge and guess what?! I was able to revive myself! Is this new or could u have done that before the 2.0 patch?

  • Well first and foremost I have read no where near as much lore and what not as some of you. reading through the comments I feel I don't really know that much about the game but here is my 2 cents of poissible ignorance that could have already been stated. I did however ead through alot of forums and comments/replies on those forums and didn't see these mentioned yet. 1. beating atheon in full raid attire, this includes raid gear and all weapon slots on a full team of 6. and i shouldn't just say atheon i mean the whole raid from start to finish. 2. defeating atheon using only the relics super. to my knowledge no one has done this. most people use the center platform and shield method. and a few raid groups use the split party between the teleport stations while the relic user bashes away with super. but what if the 5 people hold of supplicants while only the relic user dishes out damage on him...possibly while everyone is meeting require number 1. 3. getting a perfect run while meeting requirement #1 or possibly not. this includes no praetorians/eneimies enter synce plates, no vex sacrifiing to the confluxes, no templar teleports and no one dying. 4. I've seen the lore of kabr mention where it says "i was by myself but not alone. well what if you were the only one in the party but people just on venus helped you enter the VoG. I've been patroling before and helped raid parties out at the entrance with praetorians but i've never tried to enter. so what if 1 person went to VoG and 5 other people just helped out....know this would be very hard. 5. I've seen a lot of stuff about the Vex scope but what if just everyone met requirement #1 but all had the Vex equipped and the final shot one atheon was with the vex. 6. has anyone tried to purposely let both the templar and atheon go into enraged mode before defeating them with possible aspect of my other idea included into them. 7. my last idea would be simple clue searching. when you get teleported its to mars and venus. so has anyone tried to find the spots on mars or venus where you get teleported on those corresponding planets. this seems the most far fetched but it still seems plausible. maybe if we could find on the planet patrols on said planets we might could find some hints. people might have already mentioned these or possibly even debunked my ideas but was just throwing them into the mix. 8. sorry for anyone typos or grammar errors i'm slightly past drunk writing this but i was reading when all of these ideas hit me so before i passed out and forgot them all i had to post it. 9. If anyone is up to try some of these you can add me at ps3 "KzGotEm". I have the ves and full raid gear so i'd meet my own requirements.

  • This is the real lore "How did Kabr open the Vault if he was alone?" Considering that the guy was enough of a badass that he managed to convince a gorgon that IT didn't exist by beating it to death (then presumably built the shield just by punching it. It moulded itself out of terror), I wouldn't be surprised if Kabr just punched the doors to the Vault open and that he had affectionate nicknames for his fists (hence "no one was with me, but I was not alone"). Then he punched the Templar so hard that its shield broke and it teleported somewhere with a smaller chance of getting punched by Kabr. Then he went to the Gorgons' labyrinth. Punched one to death, made his cool shield. Punched and shield bashed another Gorgon until it led him to the two chests and the exit. Then punched it to death. There used to a be a large structure/bridge at the "jumping puzzle" but it was crawling with praetorians. Kabr punched all of them so hard that the only things left are chunks that keep popping in and out of the present. (Kabr was infamous for punching things so hard that the surroundings would sometimes become temporal anomalies). Vex scrambled to build the Mythoclast to kill him. Considering that Atheon is made entirely out of glass the Vex, being too far in the future to conveniently bombard Bungie with threads demanding that Kabr's fists get nerfed, really didn't want him anywhere near Atheon. Think about it. Punched the front door open. Punched a nigh omnipotent gorgon to death. Punch-built shield. Giant robot made out of glass? If Kabr got anywhere near Atheon he'd have one hit killed the giant shiny bastard. Kabr took one look at the Mythoclast, declared "OMFG OP AS -blam!-" punched himself to extract his own light, then punched it into the shield, making the ultimate weapon against the (understandably terrified and confused) Vex. Then Kabr died, performing an incredibly noble sacrifice that would aid the guardians to come after him in shutting down the Vault of Glass. But not without punching a praetorian so hard that three praetorians near it died while flipping off Atheon. His ghost was reluctant to leave him. But the Vanguard had to be informed, and Kabr would definitely have punched him if he didn't GTFO. Fast forward to now. Sensing guardians attempting to succeed where he failed, Kabr, now the shield, punches his way back into reality, his cleansing awesomeness nullifying the pesky green fanatic goo. All while the Templar and the Oracle endeavour to get rid of him. The Templar foolishly determined that it should just concentrate on killing the guardians, rather than trying to suppress Kabr. A fatal mistake. Now free, guardians are able to punch with him. (L1/LB to punch Oracle marks away, and punch away enemy damage. R1/RB to do a light punch. R2/RT to do big punch. L1/LB + R1/RB to do a REALLY REALLY big punch when Kabr wants to punch the Templar). The reason why two shields show up at the final Conflux? Kabr was a sporting man, but he's so eager to punch Atheon that he temporarily lets you use his other "fist" to kill all the scrubs (a level 30 praetorian to you and I, is a level 1 shank to Kabr.) Time's Vengeance is his way of telling all of you to "punch" Atheon as hard as possible. Once Atheon goes down, Kabr takes his leave. Lurking in the timestream. Waiting for Vex to punch. TL:DR version Kabr solves every problem with punching.

    • My theory on Kabr and the Vex is surrounded by other theories. I read somewhere on Reddit that maybe the traveler created the Vex and I immediately thought, maybe the reason why the Vex could not destroy or write Kabr out of existence was because he helped the traveler create the vex and if he were to die then the vex would cease to exist as well.

    • Here is a list of findings posted by user "Dewey Even": -Under/In front of the spire (its on the ground) is another portal guarded by a lone pretorian. On the wall above the portal are red lights connected in a fashion that seems to look like a map of some sort. -A special musical number plays when you perfectly open the spire (AKA don't let pretorians enter the plates). It is very distinctive. THIS HAS BEEN DUBUNKED. NOT TRUE -The lights in the ceiling above the first chest are actually just environment lights and have nothing to do with triggers. I was actually the one to theorize about them a while back, and a lot of people caught on. Sadly, they don't mean anything. -There are boxes everywhere and nobody knows why. I push them off because #YOLO -There is an alternative path under chest 1. -Inside the alternative path there are many red lights on the wall. Shooting them will make a spark effect. -There are at least 4 hidden rooms in the alternative path that seem perfects for some hidden content. -Upon exiting the alternative path, the first conflux spawns. Its almost like clockwork, like you were meant to take that way. -There is one red light in the templars area. Its on the left side by the left conflux. -A 5th chest can spawn when you prevent the templar from teleporting and if it is done under 10 minutes. It contains ascendent materials. -The spirit bloom chest does not seem to trigger anything. The 5th chest does not disappear when you open it. -There are a few hidden rooms in the spirit bloom passageway, some are actually pretty big. -In the gorgons area is 11 'blue flames' on the ground. Standing on it will extinguish them. -There are about 4 red lights in the gorgons area. -Above the chests in the gorgons area (on the ceiling) is a pattern that resembles the Vex Mythoclast scope almost exactly. It is really strange. Look up next time you're in there. -There is a hidden tunnel left of the jumping puzzle. Take the tunnel and jump down about 200 meters where there is another hidden cave. -Upon taking this hidden tunnel, a second set of platforms spawn and take you to Atheons door. -A lone vex gate is in the jumping platforms. Getting there is easy, getting back is almost impossible. -There are red lights outside of Atheons door. -Atheons door can be opened during the Gatekeeper fight. -After killing Atheon, time stops. The times is stuck at 0. -There is a way to activate 'Time Vengeance' after atheon is dead and time is stopped. -Gorgons respawn in the same exact location about 30 seconds after you kill them. It sucks. -There is a way to bypass the gorgons 'immunity' that they gain after killing one. If you cycle damage types (i.e. void, arc, solar) per gorgon the immunity won't occur, therefore the gorgons don't 'get stronger'. However, read the bullet above this one

            • Maybe after the Atheon fight you have to use the Vex's scope mechanism to open the unused portal (past or future) and when you go through it you will end up at the dormant portal outside the vault and it will have a chest waiting for you.

            • I noticed something strange today. While playing around after atheon. I tried to Match some triangles with the dots on the vex scope. And on one point appeared this ghostly pattern like the ones from the invisible fallen followed by controller vibrations. Personally i don't think it has something to do with the 6th chest but take a look for yourself. It happens around 1:55

There is for sure more to VOG.. It's Bungie you can better damn believe they did something very tricky. It could be 5 years before anyone stumbles on to it.
