Bungie, you were wrong!

Did I get your attention, good, read, reread, think, bump, comment. After reading others posts and thinking about my Husk of the Pit auto rifle now a legendary named Eidolon Ally, I have realized Bungie you were wrong. You already have a mechanic in game to upgrade weapons with items and of course that item and it's perks are all from a preset list. So why can we not upgrade any item in the game. Why can we not maintain a higher level of diversity. It gives the impression you are lazy. I know what I would do to fix this and other issues in the game. Firstly let's redefine the terms common through exotic. No longer should they refer to what the gun or armor is, but what it has become while being used by a Guardian. Any weapon or piece of armor would be capable of becoming greater as you use it more often, then maybe finish the upgrade with a special item. I would even say that motes of light should be the paramount item used in a final upgrades, plus a special item that would define characteristics(i.e. damage type) The reason I would tie motes of light to the final upgrade is simple, unless we move weapons and armor away from light level control then we should be the ones making them better with the light we generate. This would allow a great diversity in weapons and armor types and looks. By adding a special item at the end we could make the same gun or piece of armor produce different damage or defense types. The diversity would be awesome and it would give us reasons to grind for different items in the game. Instead of grinding for a specific weapon we grind for a specific item to make our weapons what we want. I believe this has better chance of long term sustainability. Of course this would work best with the addition of a blacksmith, an idea I plan on toting until it has been beaten to death. Your thoughts? Please bump if you like it. Edit: changed a little wording, cause I don't want people to have the wrong impression, insulting Bungie or Destiny is not the intent. Thanks to everyone's support and your own constructive ideas. Edit 2: Reading and thinking I realize this idea could mean leaving behind precious weapons ones have worked hard for and that would probably make more mad than happy. So how about establishing a difference between items upgraded from ones given to us directly. Damage would be the same for each rarity class but an item given would have a small advantage over one upgraded via perks. Either they would have one more perk or identical perks would be slightly better on one given over one upgraded.
