Refined Tower Vendors

The vendors in the tower don't see much use. How often do you find yourself going to the Cryptarch when you don't have engrams or loot to turn in? How about going to the gunsmith to see if he has anything cool in store? Once you've purchased your gear from the Vanguards or Lord Shaxx, do you ever talk to them again? How about the Factions? Once you obtain 3 of their weapons you have no reason to speak to them again, making them obsolete after a dedicated month's worth of marks. (double so if you have multiple characters to also obtain their armor) Below are ways to refine each of them so that they all have PERMANENT viability in the tower. Gunsmith The simple solution to the gunsmith is to ensure that he always has something for everyone. Instead of doing full RNG, use a limited RNG that cycles between weapon types. Give him 3 rows of 9 weapons and a 4th row for items. These would cover all weapon categories: Handcannon, Scout rifle, Pulse Rifle, Auto Rifle, fusion rifle, shotgun, sniper rifle, machine gun, rocket launcher He should also have a special trade in system where he can purchase weapon parts in bunches of 25 for 100 glimmer. Row 1- Common Weapons Row 2- Uncommon Weapons Row 3- Rare Weapons Row 4- Normal Synth, Special Synth, Heavy Synth, Weapon Parts Trade In, Reforge Primary, Reforge Special, Reforge Heavy The gunsmith needs to be able to reforge weapons. This was far too useful in Iron Banner, but unreliable due to the small amount of time that the event was around. Many people couldn't get appropriate perks for the motes that they put in. He should be able to reforge ANY weapon that is Uncommon, Rare, or Legendary. They would all cost glimmer and weapon parts as opposed to motes of light. Prices going from 750 glimmer & 10 parts, 1250 Glimmer & 20 parts, and 2000 Glimmer and 30 parts. This would slightly ease up the grind on end game players who have no more gear to upgrade yet we have over 2k weapon parts. It would also make it easier for low level players to find at least decent gear assuming they have the funds and are also meeting the level requirements. Cryptarch The cryptarch has a very small selection of items to give us by turning in or purchasing his engrams. His selection of items should be altered to make him more useful. He should firstly lose all weapon and armor engrams. No one gets weapons from him as the enemies drop weapons often and we have a gunsmith and Vanguards for that. The Common or Uncommon Class engrams should ALWAYS be available so that we can obtain a wide variety of class items new and old. He should also have special Rare and Legendary class item engrams allowing us to get some of those extremely hard to obtain class items normally obtainable only in strikes or crucible. These special engrams can ONLY turn into class items. They will never become ascendant materials, motes, or coins. Etc. This would give players who want a unique look a reason to see the cryptarch. Currently he only offers about 4 possibilities per class out of the engrams. Vanguards/Lord Shaxx (Crucible guy) There should be extreme changes here. Vanguards should sell armor that improves with your level. Starting with common and uncommon gear and eventually replacing ALL of that with Rare gear. They would of course still sell Legendary gear as they always have. This Legendary gear needs to cycle every few hours however with different abilities AND stats. Otherwise it can be impossible to find gear to fit your play style. As the people who know the most about powerful armor, the Vanguards should be capable of upgrading your LEGENDARY gear using Motes of Light and Ascendant materials. 10 motes and 10 materials per item would be a nice price to pay to turn a piece of 30 light gear into a piece of 36 Light gear. It would also make sense for them to modify your weapons from a 300 attack to 330. That would prevent the older weapons from going out of phase and becoming unique in their own ways. (much like exotics were made upgradeable so that they wouldn't be phased out by new legendaries.) Faction Vendors These guys have the potential to make the biggest impact on the style of the Guardians. They all have unique emblems, class items, shaders, armor, ships, and weapons to obtain. Problem is, we can't obtain them outside of luck. We rank them up and we only unlock things on ranks 1-3. This should be more rewarding and progressive as it was with Iron Banner, allowing us to unlock things the more we worked. Ranks above 3 should reward players as follows. Rank 4- Unlocks Faction Special Weapon (Whichever isn't already available from said faction. This applies to all below mentioned) Rank 5- Unlocks Faction Primary Weapon Rank 6- Unlocks Faction Special Weapon Rank 7- Unlocks Faction Heavy Weapon Rank 8- Unlocks Faction Primary Weapon By rank 8, all weapons are available for purchase, although they won't have varying perks. This is a scenario where that would help the vendor's weapon style shine. However, we have many more ranks to obtain and much more to unlock. Ranks 9- 11= Each of these unlocks one of the 3 faction shaders. Ranks 12 &13= Each of these unlocks one of the faction ships. Rank 14- Unlocks a new Faction Exotic Class item (yes, It would be amazing if these were created for the sole purpose of factions.) Also unlocks Ghost Shell. Rank 15- Unlocks a new faction Rare Sparrow. (rare so that it can be upgraded with a drive for a more personal look. This would give someone a real reason to stick to their preferred faction. To really feel like they are helping that faction expand by granting them a more expansive inventory of increasingly impressive items. Overall, these changes would make working toward your goal exciting and rewarding which leads to the end goal of satisfyingly addictive gameplay.
