...Without resorting to PVP? I know many hated farming, but it was the one recourse strict PVE players had to obtain Faction Gear.
Some even resorted to farming so they could avoid repetitive Strikes for Vanguard Marks.
I like the exchange, but now you've done a disservice to PVE players trying to avoid PVP.
-
Pvp is a huge part of this game. You kids are so freaking stupid it's unreal. If you don't want to Pvp don't buy a game that revolves around it dip s h i t. There are so many of you noobs crying about pvp. OMG it actually takes an ounce of skill FML
-
I just don't get why there's 4 pvp vendors and 1 pve vendor. Wtf
-
Play the other half of the game...
-
I don't see the problem.. You can earn reputation in Dead Orbit, New Monarchy, Future War Cult, and the Vanguard without doing pvp. All you have to do for the first three is wear the class item, and don't wear it for the Vanguard. You'll miss out on the crucible gear, but it's really not that different from the Vanguard gear.
-
This is true and will hurt the overall pvp experience for everyone. I wholeheartedly apologize to everyone, but in the future you will see me and (I assume) many other pvp-avoiding players in the crucible sitting around, playing without heart, losing the matces for the team and the like, because Bungie forces us into doing something we dislike go obtain crucible marks... And yes if I want the dead orbit boots with handcannon ammo I'm now FORCED to play crucible. Forcing pve'ers into the crucible will ruin it for everyone!

I would love to do pvp, but because I have satellite internet I am not able to. This is so ridiculous. I cannot believe how much of my time is now wasted because of this. I have 1000 total materials that I was going to trade off. This _______ blows. Buying materials for marks is a good idea, but you didn't have to remove the selling materials for marks was a dumb move. It could have been a pseudo-economy.
-
I think the root of the whole situation was something else. There is obviously some people who prefer PvE and some prefer PvP. While those playing PvE always had a source of mats at hand, PvP didn't. So they were stuck upgrading their weapons. I can see that with introducing buying mats it is now fairer for PvP Players. In I'm happy for them (I'm not a PvP player) as they now have the same chances to upgrade their gear. This is motivating for them and keeps them playing. Many of them surely had even excess marks. So I can see why the marks for mats system was implemented. Makes somehow sense. However it could have been solved differently. I have played PvP the first time today (and got sent home crying.....) and noticed that the reward screen had a lot of empty slots. Only one person has received something. (It was a green) and no it was not me at the faaaar bottom ;) how about if you got for example 1 mat for every 5 kills (just an idea) 2 mats for 5 melee kills. 3 mats for 5 super kills. Something like that... Depending on the map playing you got the respective mat. It would still be a little grind, but the reward screen would look so much more rewarding for PvP players. It would also be skill based. So additional to the RNG drops everyone seems to complain about there is at least a little reward for doing well. What I want to say is that the new Eco system has affected play styles. PvP players are now frustrated because PvE players don't care about Crucible and making progress there. I for myself miss "farming" a bit. I never went out to run in circles, but I loved patrol. I used this as training camp to try new weapons, jumps (for those hard to reach chests. That one one the moon... Drives me NUTS!) or different stats of my armour/weapons. It was my playground. Now with limited access to gear I feel like patrol got a bit useless. All those shiny chests... I stand before them a little sad, as my mats are overflowing... I hope something else will be implementing to make both parties happy :)

Edited by MightyJonE: 12/3/2014 3:13:52 AMI didn't mind scouring the landscape for loot chests and materials - I could explore at my own pace, sometimes stopping to watch other guardians, or take on some enemies or public events, occasionally turning in materials for 5 marks if I'd got too many of any one material Now there's no motivation to explore for chests and materials, as players can no longer exchange materials for marks, and you can now simply buy the materials, anyway As glimmer in chests is mostly quite low, Bungie now need to implement a compelling reason to explore for chests and materials

If you want pvp gear you need to play pvp. More separation between pve and pvp is what people wanted.
-
Agreed: the focus is heavily on PvP across the board, to the demerit of the game as a whole. I think mat exchange rates were pretty poor before, and wouldn't do it, but it was at least nice to have that option for those who are deeply averse to PvP. You'll probably never get a response from Bungie on this. Forcing people into Crucible is a way for them to give the game a longer shelf life; whereas PvE players likely won't abandon a game that's sparsely populated, PvP guys will. It's sad that a game marketed as appealing to both crowds has such a skew.
-
While i agree that the game is meant to be played both in its pve and pvp forms, and that a person shouldnt feel like they are being dealt an injustice if they refuse to play the game as its intended, i disagree with the removal of the exchange from raw mats to marks. Its fair. If youre willing to loot farm for hours on end to get a very small amount of reps and marks, then why take that away from you. I feel like there should be both, marks for mats and mats for marks. A system of equivalent exchange would be necessary to prevent exploit, but other than that, i really dont understand why they took away that option. For the record, from time to time, i -blam!- in pvp. I play pvp and pve, i do the daily at least 3 times a day, the weekly and nightfalls probably 10 times each a week, and the raid countless times a week on both hard and normal. I play a very considerable amount of pvp, posess all of the iron banner gear currently available for my hunter, and have a 2415 grimoire. As an experienced player, i see both sides of the argument.
-
I for one can't stand pvp, but unfortunately still have to play it. All so i can just get the weapons i like. Neither vendors have any clear indications between pvp or pve, other the the vendor. I feel it's unfair to be funneled to use different currency to purchase it.

Edited by kurt1sl0we: 12/7/2014 6:12:00 PMThe 3 factions should have two sets of gear, one for each type of mark. If I can get rep from them for doing pve then they're obviously not strictly a pvp faction. Edit: make the two sets distinctly different, still enticing people to try other game modes.
-
Agree. As a pure PvE Gamer, I'm getting rather tired of Bungie's huge middle finger being waved at me.
-
Bump. Make factions accept Vanguard Marks, Bungie. You're spitting on the people this game was marketed to. Destiny wasn't touted as a PvP-centric game in the advertising, it was made out to be an epic adventure, and PvP was just understood to be part if it, because no game is co-op only anymore. You got me with the dlc pre-order, so I'm around at least that much longer (maybe), but if this game continues to skew towards PvP, then it's adios.
-
Really guys what's the difference in pvp and pve? You run around and kill shit. Why all the bitching? What's the difference in shooting a dreg or shooting a guardian? Besides the fact the guardian is going to jump and fly around. And send you hateful messages for using your fist of havoc on a blade dancer as soon as he starts his super?
-
I'm a PvE-only player but viewed material exchange as a supplement to Vanguard marks only, which I used public events to get. I considered but rejected the idea to turn them in for crucible marks so I could use the faction vendors. Too absurd a level of farming for me.
-
If Factions took VMs or CMs, like they do Rep, fine with me. Crucible can have their Armor and Weapons, Vg has there's, and everyone can share the Factions. We should start a Black Market. Offer the PvP guys our excess mats for what we used to get, 5Marks/50mats, it's a better deal then the QM's, and cuts out the middle-man :) Hopefully Bungie's figuring something out to get some sort of two-way system going that can't be manipulated. Never bought Crucible weapons or armor, the one's I have were all RNG, but bought Faction armor that had bonuses I wanted, or weapons with Element Damage I was missing for NF/Weekly Burns (NM is the only vendor selling an Arc Shotgun) Took forever to RNG an Arc Comedian and Unfriendly Giant. I'd rather save up the marks and buy what's needed then pray to RNG. Though I'd still like a way to dump excess mat's, they just seem to fall into my inventory while doing Van Bounties, haha (Can't not pick up the shiny things)
-
On the one hand, I know people don't want to be 'forced' into PvP. I think that's the only mistake of this patch, completely removing the ability to gain Crucible marks outside PvP. On the other hand, there are a few points to argue for this change: 1. PvP currency should be obtainable only from PvP. That I would fully support if vendors acepted both marks. 2. The DLC will be introducing a whole new variety of Vanguard equiptment, especially weapons, so there should be a lot more use for VMs. 3. Faction armor is supposed to be a stepping stone on your way to level 30+, and Dark Below is supposed to make it easier for those who don't raid. 4. You can still get equipment just by leveling the faction itself, though that's a slow grind. It seems like all the updates were oriented towards a big change with the DLC, a calming before the storm. They have known for months what they want in that pack, this seems like the preparation for some larger changes they have in the works.
-
I liked having access to the factions because the RNG is horrendous. The armor was aight, but I was going for the weapons with the specific damage type I needed. Void weapons for voidburn, arc for arcburn, yada yada yada. The Vanguard Quartermaster couldn't cover all the damage types.
-
Just play PvP for christs sake. I hate it but I managed to get level five in iron banner. If I can do it, then so can you.
-
The faction armor doesnt get you to 30 and the weapons are inferior to weapons you get in pve. There really is no point in getting that stuff unless you are buying it to dismantle it for ascendant materials. But why would you do that when you can buy the vanguard stuff and dismantle them? Not only that, you get the faction weapons from pve as rewards for nightfall for example or from legendary engram drops in pve.
-
The same way pvp players get raid gear.
-
I just wear each factions arm band until u hit level 3 with it. Takes about 2-3 days to hit level 3 then every time I level them up after hitting level 3 I get gear as a reward. I have 4 crucible weapons and I don't play the crucible
-
I'm not really sure why factions Dont take both. Might be some lore about why but i Dont know.
-
Bump... And maybe there's multiple solutions since there's multiple issues. Sadly there is now no longer any use for an excess of materials (or motes!). It is always nice when you can trade stuff you don't need. That this enables some people to farm... Well.. Is up to them. You just need good exchange rates so trading by itself doesn't become a way to enrich oneself. Second... Only allowing pve centric players to purchase gear at the vanguard shops is way limiting... There's just too little variety. Allowing them to buy at the factions was a great way around that... Too bad that's gone.
