"Destiny, and how I feel about it," OR "I want to play your game... but your servers won't let me."

Greetings and salutations, Bungie. I, like many, had been looking forward to your open-world, sci-fi epic action shooter, ever since you announced it back in February of 2013. I was certainly part of the hype train, making wild implications off of whatever scrap of information you would drop every now and then, and it's no doubt that you've become a victim of your own success with the Halo games. Expectations built higher and higher, and upon release Destiny became as highly-debated as it was anticipated, and will likely go down as one of the most controversial games in history. (You'll have to forgive me for my convoluted writing; there's a point to all of it, I promise.) There were many things to love- as exhibited by the average number of players online per day- and there were a couple things that left players wanting. Most notably, the story mode. How about that story mode? Many complained (they had every right to), and I saw the points of view from which many were speaking. I can't say I disagreed with many of the complaints. However, I was never mad at you for the story mode that was ultimately shipped out to us. I recently read a Reddit post from someone allegedly within your studios, who was kind enough to shed some light on the development process of the game, the original vision of Destiny's plot, and that vision's ultimately tragic fate (allegedly caused and/or flagged by Joseph Staten's departure). Whether the info was legitimate or not we'll likely never know, but many of what was stated by that anonymous Reddit user happened to fit with much of what I knew personally in the months leading up to launch. The newfound information left me in a state of melancholy, as I mourned the incredible journey that could have, would have, should have been. But you did what you could, even pushing back the game's release two seasons, just so that you could redo the story mode. It isn't a crime to act by your best intentions. However, there's one thing that saddens me even more than forgotten dreams of the story that could have been. I remain faithful to the game you've so graciously given us (even though my preferred console has always been Xbox, and in some cases I lose out on content for having that preference). I think about Destiny every day, and I pop the disc in every day. I want to play your game, but your servers won't let me. I load your game, I sign in. I reach Orbit, and access the Director. I choose a playable space, and if I'm lucky, I make it through the loading cutscene. My boots hit the ground, and I only have a minute or two before I'm assaulted with a black loading screen and code words such as "bee," "fly," "hare," "vulture." I don't remember the last time I was even able to finish a story mission. Sometimes I would attempt the same mission three, even four times in a row, but would never be able to reach completion before I was booted from the game world because of my internet connection. Sometimes it happens before I can complete a Patrol mission. Other times, I can't even make it over to the mission beacon before I'm booted. Tonight, my process was: 1.Turn on my Xbox One. 2. Pop in the disc. 3. Press A to sign in. Step 3. was repeated four times, within fifteen seconds of each other, before I just ejected my disc and turned off my console. My console's "high packet loss" has ranged between 18 and 36 percent. I'm unsure if this is on the fault of my service provider or the console itself, but I wasn't having these connection problems a week and a half ago. I played endless hours of Destiny in the first month of its release, and I never faced the connection errors I'm facing now. And after spending hours on the support pages of Xbox.com and bungie.net, it almost seems like nothing short of buying an entirely new modem and Ethernet cable will fix my problem. Maybe this a plea for help. Perhaps this is just a rant. Maybe it's a little bit of both. Maybe it's just for the sake of me getting my thoughts out on the forums. Any feedback, whether from a developer or a fellow community member, is welcome and appreciated, just so long as said feedback doesn't impose discomfort on those who use the forums. I'm not looking for conflict. I just want to put my experience and my thoughts out in the open. If you've read all the way to this point, it'll reflect greatly on your patience for my rambling. But please, Bungie. Continue your efforts to fix connection issues, and let me play and enjoy the game you've given us. And, if your servers will permit me, I'll see you starside. Yours truly and respectfully, Vincentius rex
