There is a rather cryptic message in one of the Grimoires about the Darkness, see the spoiler directly below. More or less everyone agrees that it was sent by Rasputin. It is a weird message containing concepts that are important in AI design, data analysis, physics, ancient mythology and military tactics.

I did not provide a full explanation for all my suggested translations, but have provided links (mostly Wiki) to some of the less intuitive concepts.

If my suggested translations are correct than this means that:
The Darkness [spoiler]is not a metaphor of some kind but consists of dark matter, but still has intelligence[/spoiler]
Rasputin [spoiler]initiated the end of the world and the (near) extinction of humanity was not the result of the Darkness[/spoiler]
The Ghosts or Traveller himself [spoiler]was protected by Rasputin because they are the ones that will raise the dead, e.g. Guardians. Alternatively (here it gets a bit cooky) this may mean, that, since the Traveller created the Ghosts with its dying breath, he and Rasputin are one and the same[/spoiler].

2 RepliesIf you read through the cards on Rasputin and the Darkness it's implied that Rasputin detected the Darkness, ran simulations, realized it couldn't be defeated, turned off all the defenses and went into hibernation. Either to save itself or because it thought that was the only way anyone survived at all. It's also theorized that Rasputin fired on the Traveler to damage it enough that it couldn't run. Forcing it to stay and defend the Earth. This theory also says that it abandoned the Cabal, Fallen, Hive and Vex to the Darkness before it came to Earth and intended to do the same to the Humans.

3 RepliesOCP does not refer to open/closed principle, it's a reference to OCP, or an Outside Context Problem, from sci fi author Iain M Banks' writing. An OCP is a force that defies all attempts to understand it and represents an existential threat to humanity - "a civilization encounters an OCP in much the same way as a sentence runs into a full stop." Bungie are HUGE Banks fans; they've said in their tribute to him when he died of cancer that they based the Halo Rings on the Orbitals from his Culture series.

Rasputin Ended the golden age forcefully to save humanity by MAKING the traveler more or les stay to help. Mh by cutting off the public sources he made us not rely on the old. to forge a new path maybe because the old would never be enough. But he if he gave us access to some of the old couldn't we make more new tuff that has the best of the old tech making it superior? For example, Crota was given the Sword by the Swarm Princes. Crota then stopped an invasion of the Hellmouth (which holds all of the Hives knowledge of its previous conquests). The Swarm Princes then enacted a ritual to "Promote" Crota to God status. Any thoughts?

5 RepliesWhile yes this is a very good explanation I do not entirely agree with your deciphering of the code. I myself have also tried to figure out what a large portion of this means and have hit a few walls. After reading your version I will look back to mine and compare the two and try to combine them. I think that your on the right track when you say the traveler found a large object (the darkness) approaching the solar system and he initiated many protocols. Although I interpreted the names and meanings of these actions differently. I am confused where you assume that ISIS means to cut of all public sources in order to protect those who will wake up the dead. I am confused as to where you got information that someone or thing will be "waking up" the dead. While yes Isis was the goddess of health I don't know why you feel as though she or (the traveler) will be waking up the dead. I am also curios as to how and where you found information that "white" was a term used to describe that you are doing something first. Reading that you took the commands VOLUSPA and YUGA as code for starting the operation to end the world is very interesting and odd to me. I would love to talk to you about your findings and ideas a little more. Thanks!

Völuspá is actually an ancient Nordic prophecy and poem which tell of a time in which in which essentially a God that went by the name of Æsir created a golden age for man in which he (Æsir) was wealthy and safe until three Giants that go by the name Jötunhemir come around and effectively put an end to the dark age seeing this Æsir creates little dwarves as they are called in the story (supposedly us guardians). In the other version of the story Thor in place of Æsir actually battles the evil and wins but is only able to take seven steps afterwards before collapsing... Coincidence I think not considering the Gjallarhorn is also an ancient Nordic myth this is hard to overlook and points to the fact that Rasputin had to have been aware that traveler would raise the guardians so he caused an extinction level event to stop the darkness just enough! Hope this helps.

Your translation is probably pretty accurate. The Warminds are military applications and likely speak/write/report in a military fashion. Often words in CAPS are actually brevity terms that have a greater and broader meaning. They are used for OPSEC and for communication efficiency. Given that the game's writers probably understand this, but do not have actual military backgrounds, it is safe to assume that the brevity terms used are symbolic and closely related to actual meaning.
