Raid Matchmaking - Not all of us know 5 people that play regularly...

I have 5 people that I can do VoG with

78

I don't have enough friends to do VoG

252

...or if we do, we arn't always on at the same time. eg time zones. I've not even been able to try the Vault of Glass yet because I don't know enough people to do it. I've tried inviting randoms, hanging out in front of the entrance, a tonne of stuff, to find a raid group. But its just kinda hard to do. and I understand theres limitations to it matchmaking with something like this, but I still wanna have the option. I mean you'd still have the dedicated clans doing it successfully, but like you said in the last weekly update, theres been teams of randoms that did it successfully. Its just really alienating for those who can't find 5 people to play with at once. I know theres been third party systems made by players, but I'd still love matchmaking to be a thing...also having to rely on a third party system to find a raid group is silly imo. EDIT New idea: Add Raid Ranks. eg: someone who's done the VoG raid 5 times successfully would be "VoG RR 5" (RR = Raid Ranks) These ranks would be for each raid. Example: DLC raid comes out House of Wolves Raid (HoW for short) Lets say the same bloke who has a "VoG RR 5" has beat this new raid 3 times, his HoW Raid rank would be: "HoW RR 3" So this way we know whi is experienced at it. There could be multiple Raid play lists, eg you have to have a Raid Rank of a certain amout to play it. Eg VoG RR 5 playlist would require only those who have beaten the raid 5 or more times. That way the veterans wouldn't have to deal with the new player who know nothing about it and the new players could learn together on the base VoG

    • I've done Raid with random people it's not hard to do. Personally I'm done with attempting Raids with Randys this has resulted in failure every time. When I find players that communicating and work as a team I'll make a go of Raids again. But I'm done with random it's not worth it and it's kills my fun time.

      • Matchmaking, no. A proper LFG system, yes. There is a difference between MM and LFG. With an MM system the game is going to find the group for you. This also means that the system needs to do everything it can to make sure you can complete the content. This will in turn lead to even more QQ about how people were grouped but couldn't complete the content. Compare this to an LFG system that makes it easy for you to look for a group/look for people to fill up your current group. You would have someone to decide if someone is geared/skilled/etc enough to do it. You would have a leader to kick people who aren't pulling their weight. So I'm sorry, but I can't support an MM system for content that should be challenging. Instead I can get behind an LFG system that helps players find each other for content, as opposed to a system that just throws together randoms and hopes that they can complete it.

      • Matchmaking on strikes has already proven players are prone to go afk/quit when things aren't going well and there are fights in the Vault which are really difficult to pass if one or two players don't know the strategy or perhaps want to troll the group. I'd imagine Bungie would have to make the raid scale down in difficulty if players quit and they may have to design future raids to be beaten by matchmade groups. Whilst not ideal, players have found ways around it. Try posting on either destinylfg.net or destinylfg.com with your details and watching a youtube video of the boss encounters to prepare you for the raid. I've made countless friends through these third-party sites and after spending 6 hours on week one to clear, it now takes around an hour for a full clear.

      • I think match making for VoG would make people more frustrated than not doing it. Especially with people either not having/not using mics or them not working in match making. VoG requires coordination and with out mics, you might get to the end boss, but beating him is unlikely.

        • The only way it would work is if you had a selection to be a raid leader or a grunt like World of Warcraft does now. In other words you would have to have 1 guy who knew all the fights and getting 5 peeps to listen to that guy is not fun on any level. Everybody has their own opinions

        • I completely agree with this post I haven't been able to play the raid either due to the fact that I have to go beg people to do the raid. I don't get what would be so bad about making the raid matchmaking and find you the random people since either way if your looking for people to help they're still random so I do think see the difference. Anyways if you're on ps4 add bloodshot949 I'm down to do the raid for the first time and I'm usually on after 11pm Pacific time hope to get some invites.

        • I like 6 player co-op as an option, not being forced to do it! Why is Vault of Glass so stupid in that regard? Yes, that's good that you can finally play a 6 player co-op, IF you grind gear...thank you for having something that you can't accomplish on your own merits but have to wait for drops to become level 26. Anyway, whatever, you can do it, with idiot faction or some queen's wrath tickets for equipment. However, the mission requires 6 people who work together and probably need to communicate. If the PUG population is a person's best chance for completing it, well GOOD LUCK WITH THAT! I even have people I could play it with, but basically it takes scheduling it, making sure the time is clear, really quite frankly it is a pain in the you know what. It isn't even like World of Warcraft. It's like Everquest bad how this wasn't thought out. Or if it was, it is even more embarassing. Hey, a challenge is good, the option to play with people is good. Making sure I can't get to level 30 without doing this bag of nonsense right now is rocks for brains dumb. That's on a long list of dumb too, quite frankly.

          • I would love for there to be a thing that a player would have to spend a certain amount of glimmer to create a group and then that way people would have more incentive to play through and not leave

          • Yes I absolutely HATE being forced to group up with people in order to progress in a game. I can make due with match making but I have no desire to spend hours begging clan members to do a raid. I was very angry when I found out that the raid gear is superior to all other legendary gear and is necessary in order to get to level 30. The fact that the raid requires me to somehow find 5 other people of the correct level in order to do it is now blocking my progress in the game. If it remains this way I will eventually stop playing this game. Why can I not equip all exotics? Who was the stingy piece of @#$% who came up with this one? People play game to get away from real life why do game developers keep adding pain back into their games? There at the very least needs to be match making on EVERYTHING not just the raids. Raid gear need to have a different designation other than Legendary or the current Legendary gear needs to be downgraded to a classification that more represents its worthlessness. This gear only serves the purpose of allowing us to do the raid content to get the REAL Legendary gear.

          • I would encourage you to look at the # gaming thread. I actually found my current clan doing a looking for group post for vog. I see plenty of posts looking for people and have had fairly good success in finding groups for almost anything.

          • Posted this in another thread (one that was against matchmaking) but I'll post here too, just to cover my bases. I'm not sure how well this idea will go over, but I thought of an alternative to both the Matchmaking and the Traditional Raiding Party camps. It's simple in concept, but might be difficult in actual practice, but here it is... Change the game dynamics to a system that increases the difficulty/complexity of Missions/Strikes/Raids depending on how many players are in the Fireteam. Solo players can Solo, Social players can socialize, and everybody gets to experience the game the way that they want. If you can only get three people to go Raiding with you, you can still Raid and the game will adjust its difficulty/complexity based on your four man Fireteam. Rewards, drop rates, etc., would also increase with the higher player count (Higher risk=greater rewards). And you could increase the level difficulty/complexity even further, as you can now, by increasing the Level of the Mission/Strike/Raid. Nothing at all will change for the players who want the highest challenge, and greatest reward, given by the Raids. But those who don't care, or can't be bothered, or are just tired of the Social Grind Fest that comes with getting a full six man Fireteam, can still experience the game on their own terms.

            • Right. I have like 7 or 8 friends that i can play destiny with, except the only problem is that most of them cant get on whenever you ask, and i cant spend a long time waiting for someone to join to complete the fire team.

            • When I first reached the level to raid, I had no one to do it with. All I had to do was send messages to random people and make friends who are now my raiding team. You could also check this app and find people.
