Bungie new to MMOs

I think since release bungie has shown exactly how new they are to managing and designing mmo elements in the game. 1) Character customization was extremely shallow. I went to GDC and heard their logic behind it and while I grant it does reduce clipping and abnormality problems i say let players have their fun. What's the worst that can happen? Funny looking faces? 2) Weapons and armor systems. Current customization elements feel extremely linear and while that may be a good thing for entrants and a wide audience it still feels extremely stupid at times. Like you couldn't have given players just one more build path for their upgrades like you did with the character skill tree? 3) PURE RNG LOOT Perhaps the biggest offender of the mmo elements it's like they took the cheapest way out for this. I've seen so many titles within the last two years try to use pure RNG loot and it only ended up killing the game in the long run. I'm not saying don't use RNG. But, it needs to be intelligently implemented and balanced instead of haphazardly thrown in as a band-aid for what might not have been a good reward system in beta. 4) Arguably the story? Since this game isn't a pure mmo and most mmos don't have a lot of story to begin with it's really tough to fault them on this. I'm interested enough in the story to keep playing. But, my main complaint is the writing. It's shallow, amateur, and doesn't quite fit what I think Bungie wanted the game to be as a whole. The grimoire cards are nice but they should have been implemented in the game via a diary or collectibles system and not thrown into an online database. I grant that I can read it here. BUT, the keyword is ACCESSABILITY. Players are more likely to read content spoon fed to them rather than delve into something completely outside the realm of the actual game. 5) Bosses/Repetition. Most mmos consist of a limited number of quest types. Fetch, Escort, Kill, etc... There's pretty much only one quest type in Destiny and that is Guard Ghost Vs Hordes of enemies. Even implementing some of the traditional quest types would have been a better choice. Granted that's kinda what bounties are but I only get 5 of those a day for PVE.:/ Bosses are bullet sponges except for the current raid boss which is still a bullet sponge but at least has interesting mechanics outside of spamming high damage aoe grenades at you. Giving bosses varied mechanics would have gone a long way instead of just giving them more hp. 6)PvP Balancing. Perhaps one of the toughest things in MMOs and arguably you did well for a release and I'm glad to see adjustments coming to it. Look Bungie I love this game I wouldn't have invested so much time to create a lvl 27 character otherwise. But, in it's current state you're going to lose a lot of players and fans and then that 10 year plan you had in stock isn't going to work out. A) you're not going to have people playing which drowns out the worlds with emptiness. B) You've made promises to fix things but with no firm deadlines. I get it. As a aspiring developer myself I understand some basics of production times and costs but timing is everything and the longer you wait to fix root cause issues the more players you'll end up losing which in the long run is worse for you. C) Player feedback is good but needs to be taken with a grain of salt. I think we all know the complaints with queen's wrath and loot caves and the hotfix and patch ensuing was a flex reaction to a minority number of players complaining about the game. While I agree fixing them was important the larger root cause was not addressed so in the end the reflex changes have just hindered the game's replayability factor for the next couple of Days/weeks/months. Depending on how long it takes you to roll out the next patch. D) Not enough incoming content. MMO fanatics like me turn and burn good games and content like nobody's business. The end result is your most dedicated playerbase not having much to do now. The content you have scheduled should be coming more rapidly and with greater variety. On the opposite end of the spectrum what you have done right. 1)Xur: While people who collect exoctics will hate my guts this guy is literally one of the best moves I've seen in a pure RNG system. He balances out what would be an impossible task for good gear. Making the game more accessible to players of all backgrounds ranging from casual to hardcore. 2) Exotic bounties. Again kind of tied in with Xur this is a great way for players to EARN gear that would otherwise be difficult to attain regularly. The only problem with this is the current 1-2% chance of getting one of these while turning in bounties is really disgustingly low. It SHOULD be bumped up slightly to retain player interest and for replayability factors in collectibility. 3) Scheduled events. They should come regularly; I hate using maplestory as an example because nexon is a terrible company. However, analyzing their event system would show you that they cycle events like crazy. If there isn't a holiday event going on then there's new classes, seasonal events, etc... to fill in the gaps and keep players returning and being addicted on a regular basis. Granted this game operates on a free to play model which earns extra income through micro transactions that bungie currently doesn't have. But I believe with a skilled team and the right motivation this can easily be implemented and give the devs more income to work with as well as benefit the community as a whole. [SO LONG AS YOU'RE REASONABLE] 4)No economy. This is more of a neutral than a positive cause it can go either ways but In my opinion not having a player driven economy is probably for the better in this game. I could give you a singular 4 page post on why that would be the case but I'd shorten it to this. It increases farming activity, promotes power creep, and in the end would devalue exotics more than Xur ever could. Glimmer is more readily available than strange coins and isn't randomized. If there's anything you guys at Bungie would like to learn from someone who's played too many games for his own good please feel free to shoot me an email or post belowVV All comments are welcome even one's disagreeing with my opinions/suggestions Cheers to My friend Jason Jones at Bungie
