Not that I really care much and understand the practical reasons, but I got to thinking in beta, why does a mechanical "person" who doesn't breath need the helmet, or even just why for protection when the helmet is the same looking material as their heads.
Again, I'm not bitching, I totally get it's just programming continuity across the races, but I do chuckle thinking about the absurdity.
Edit: Good catch, smartphone posting and didn't proof read, thanks.

Read your title it sounds stupid lol

I was highly surprised when I clicked on the train wreck of a topic and then read an actual legible OP. I think autocorrect may be at work here.

Edited by xcrimsonlegendx: 8/30/2014 1:43:41 AMI'm sure they don't want their vital components being exposed to the vacuum of space or being hit with gunfire. They may be machines but loosing an optic eyeball would still suck just as much as loosing a real one. As we already know from the battle damaged "hair" accessory, they aren't invincible and need protection just as much as the blood-skulls do.
-
Lol. How do you know they don't breathe. They are a highly evolved cybernetic life form. Maybe they intake the hydrogen and oxygen and use it to power themselves.
-
Well there head is probably the most vulnerable part of the body just like humans I doubt it's as protected as there cheats plates. So they need a helmet just as much as a human.
-
Yup...I did.

Edited by Kawaii Whale: 8/30/2014 1:52:28 AMThey probably have like... microchips and hardrives or somthing in there
-
ya. weird. they should have made it were if you chose exo, you dont need a helmet. or an option to not wear one
-
A penetrating shot to the head is still lethal, and an Exo's bare head is almost certainly softer than a helmeted human skull.
-
Yeah, really only the Humans and Awoken need them...
-
Aren't they robots? Isn't that their fućking head?!
-
I'd wear a helmet too if my head had a bullet hole in it like you see some Exos have.
-
It's not like they all are made of adamantium like me. Also not all exos wear helmets (mystery huntress).
-
Maybe it's because Exos were made to be as close to human as humanly possible (think Data from star trek) and not as battle mechs. This would also kind of explain why they wear armor at all.

Edited by Tagonyst: 8/30/2014 2:16:59 AMIf I was an exo, and had the choice of helmet or no helmet, I will most certainly choose helmet. It's extra armor for their head.
-
Think of it this way exo still have important pieces in their head like memory banks and such maybe even their power source. Now look at their design, they have openings right into the soft spots of their head let alone their eyes that are most likely camera lenses. They need a helmet to protect the open gaps and their eyes cause even if they are immortal robots the can still die.
-
Hadn't thought of it, but now that you mention it, yes.
-
Remember that exo customization option that left a hole in his head? Do you want to end up like him? Didn't think so.
-
Exo means outer, and these guys look like machines. Their name to me insinuates that there is more underneath, so perhaps they are some naturally weaker variant of human that became cyborgs because of the darkness? This is just me spitballing. I'm interested in other peoples ideas.
-
Some great points and some shitty points, I was more just curious if anyone thought it was odd like I did
-
Maybe because their main cpu, hard drives, visuals and motor drives are in their head and since they are sentient they would see a reason to essentially protect their memory aka their soul. But then again they could probably just back up all that info somewhere I'm the Tower. So idk sir idk :-)
-
It is kinda odd when you really think about it. But, I know Bungie has a good reason for it. Besides, the helmets are badass!
-
Well I can imagine exos aren't arc or void proof a little fire proof but still do you see how the vex don't use armor and they die quite easily just saying it makes sense my question is why they see color like humans why not red like terminator
-
Protection. Rather have a helmet on while being shot at.
-
I just wanna know where they keep their horns under the helmets, if they have horns
