Take away the cash prize? Why? All competitive events should have cash rewards.

  • No maybe I worded it wrong they should still be rewarded I guess just not like millions or a couple hundred grand for playing a few matches. In general to be honest I think a lot of sportsmen are over payed anyway especially footballers.

  • Then your argument is more in-line of competitive performers in general. Gaming is a hobby like any "real" sport and that hobby can involve people getting together to make a team and test their skills. Its only natural in any way that competition is found that its enjoyable to some to see what happens when the best of best perform against one another. Why is it a big deal about professional gamers earning prize pool money? "Real" sports players live the easy life on a salary just for walking on the field while pro gamers live off of sponsors and prize money, so no guaranteed salary. Also for your OP chess was doable for a century and games are the most recent form of media, so why can't our understandings of what are considered acceptable sports or forms of competition?
