BETA things you NEED to know.... for ALL players.

PLEASE be aware what im about to give is general info ive learned over my 3 days on here, and ive NOT seen mentioned or easily found here in the forums or online. the general consensus this that this info has a chance of changing in the final version of the game. =============================================== minor tips. -TWITTER!!! bungie has a destiny twitter feed and gives you the most UP TO DATE info for destinys events.. schedualed maintenance.. and iron banner times. these posts are also on the main destiny page. -PERMENANT ITEM! its been stated by bungie in their several feeds that there will be an event on the 26th at 2pm PST where those at the tower will recieve a PERMENANT emblem -ANYTHING you see on the ground as an item.. ONLY you can see.. its yours for the taking. -EXP gained from getting gold in daily map events,bounties... give the exp to ALL of your skills, weapons, and armor.. make certain to have items your trying to level worn when turning these in. -Character level and SKILLS levels while coincide in exp at FIRST... when your character level maxes at 8, your skills continue to raise till around lvl 13, including critical grenade and jump upgrades. -Your health is broken into 3 bars.. the first bar is your TRUE health.. which varies by class and is effected by your "recovery stat" the other 2 are your "shields" which while i cant confirm are different for each class.. my tests didnt show any change via recovery stat. -You CANNOT solo map "events" dont even try you will fail. -=EDIT for all the trolls=- WHEN your level 8... with level 13 skill sets.. with ALL uncommon gear from days of farming and those items have been leveled to unlock your skills... and if your the ONLY one on the map at the time to prevent stat scaling of the enemies. YES, some of these open/world events CAN be soloed... but for EVERY xbox player.. and every player thats NOT maxed out thats lower then level 6.. with sub par gear.. your not doing it.. its a waste of ammo.. and this warning still remains... and its for THEM i claimed it. PS, im talking about the MAIN "explore russia" map where the random events have TIME LIMITS.. NOT the lvl 6/8 strike bosses. ===BOXES save golden ones.. CAN be seen by ALL.. and can be acessed by all.. if in a fireteam, call it out on voice if you have a headset.. and open it when your team arrives so ALL your team can share in the wealth. once any box is opened.. it dissolves in 30 seconds. - each "area" has on average 5 boxes on the area map at a time. taking one box.. causes it to respawn almost instantly elsewhere. - each box spawn point has 3-5 sub spots in that tiny area the box can spawn, some can be out of sight of the main spots. - glitter farm.. mothlands and the shipyards have the most vehicle acessable box spawns with minimal enemy interferance.. learn the hotspots and you can scan an area in about 2 min hitting each majior spawn spot... if boxes stop showing up, then they are spawning in areas youve not found yet.. look on the forums here for more detailed guides on glitter farms. ====WEAPONS -weapons each come in 2-3 varieties.. drastically changing thier damage.. rate of fire.. and accuracy.. each subclass of these weapons can be determined by thier "brand" names/stats. its HIGHLY suguested you not only try each class of weapon..{scout rifle, pulse rifle, auto rifle], but each each SUBclass as well.... learning these early on will give you an idea near level 8 what "greens" your going to want to be farming for PvP. - STATS.. thier attack is the "average combat rating" for the weapon.. strike is the stat that dictates how hard/damaging each individual bullet is. - VEX/blue/lightning elements are the ONLY element you need to worry about in the beta.. nothing is weak to the purple vortex.. and only wizzards have fire shields. but elites and captians AND every player in PVP has blue shields. -sniper rifles are your best weapon of choice in STRIKES and MISSIONS compared to the other special weapons.. ALL special weapons ammo is limited, but the sniper rifle offers the most damage per shot AND accuracy at range keeping you safe from bosses compared to the melee range shotgun and the short range fusion which CANNOT score critical hits. ====ARMOR -MOST green armor offers minor skill perks that CAN turn the tide of battle in your favor.. even pvp, legs and class items are the exception and HAVE no perks -Armor can boost one of 3 stats.. each stat modifies the rate that your 3 active skills regenerate. -make sure your armor boosts your GRENADE stat to its max.. this allows you to throw a grenade every 6-7 seconds.. the reason for this is the PUNCH skill at level 8 while nice is nothing compared to the other 2 skills regen.. and NO green items have intelligence.. only blue items and above.. and the lowest level BLUE item is level 10.. so you cant boost your super in the beta. ====STRIKE -BEST ITEM FARM IN THE BETA!!!!! seriously... the host needs to select the strike.. then CLICK ON NORMAL... change the strike from level 6 to level 8. this doubles the amount of enemies and boosts thier level. the reason behind this is when you complete the strike on level 8 you are GAURENTEED 1 level 8 green weapon and one level 8 green armor for all 3 members. nothing in the beta will get you your max damage/armor rating faster. -the landing area is to be AVOIDED... these enemies are infinate and meant to drain your ammo reserves before you even get to the strike area... land.. get on your sparrow/speeder/bike and boost to the back of the map and enter the lair asap to conserve ammo and save time. -When your 2 teammates are dead and your questionable as weather you can res them.. HIDE... lame as it may sound.. you trying to be a hero.. and dying after fighting a boss for 10 min.. only to have the fight reset with your ammo reserves not replenished can be enough to cause some teammates to rage quit... 20 seconds of hiding behind cover for a teammate to respawn can save you 10+ minutes of fighting. -when you ARE rezzing your teammate.. move around in circles... makes you a harder target to hit.. practice will get you to learn your rez range. -when finished rezzing.. you AND your teammate get a temporary shield..but its just extra life.. not invincibility.. as soon as you bring them back... assume you have bullets headed at you and jump and boost in a safe direction to avoid damage that killed your teammate to keep you from being a corpse as well. ====PvP... becuase of requests.. -RADAR is your friend.. its MOTION based.. think of the movies ALIENS.. when you see red.. it means an enemy is MOVING around you.. take this as a chance to find a corner.. and STOP moving to become invisible to thier radar.. wait for them to pass you for an easy ambush attack. -ALL movement reveals you on radar.. crouching.. walking, running.. shooting yes EVEN while crouched. -Melee can kill most in 2 hits when you have your melee skill charged. -lag/ping plays a CONSIDERABLE role in this game.. its an open WORLD server..on occasion expect to be killed by melee/shot 5 seconds after youve already killed them. -the tank on the moon is a PAIN to confront..and takes a beating for something that can one shot you...but it has its weaknesses.it only has full EASY access to check point B.. partial access to C.. and full to C when it works around cover but by then you see it comming and can get behind the boxes inside. and has NO access to A or the middle of the map... its also slow.. stay to the buildings and you can as a team make this vehicle mostly useless save for its ability to dominate B. -super moves will generally 1 shot the tank. -the golden flaming pistol isent OP..its a SUPER move.. EVERY super move for all classes are 1 hit kills.. titan and warlock have large AOEs.. while the hunter has a few shots from a pistol that requires aim.. yes it has the most range.. but the highest chance of being a wasted use as well. -MAX out your grenade recharge armor!!! a grenade every 6-7 seconds can REALLY allow you to use thier AOE effects to force enemy players to go left instead of right when ducking for cover.. or popping out of it.. thus adding to YOUR control of the battlefield. -Grenades on a falling checkpoint is NEVER a waste. grenades cannot cover ALL the checkpoint but it will damage those taking it.. cause them to scatter.. slowing down thier capture of it.. and often clears them OFF the point for a few seconds. these seconds gives the LESS time the points under thier control and thus less overall score in the long run... and with a 6 second recharge.. grenades shoudlent be idle any ways. -Heavy ammo is ONLY gained in timed chest drops.. this is a double edged sword.. it makes them a danger hotspot for potential traps/campers.. but are largely under used.. especially for the damage and zone control that heavy weapons can put out. if an ammo box is gone unclaimed for a while chances are its free to take.. and use to your teams advantage. -Headshots... AIM FOR THEM.. duh... common sense.. but headshots can literally make the difference between you winning or losing a 1v1 encounter. -Shotgun/melee = 1/2 punch... if your close to your opponent.. a point blank shotgun blast then a melee shot with your punch skill charged is a gaurenteed kill, with a high chance of triggering your punch skills secondary effects.. and is far faster to pull off then 2 consecutive shotgun blasts. -Range DONT mean your safe... sniper rifles arent the only threat.. auto rifles.. pulse rifles.. scout rifles..hand cannons, ALL can make very short work of you at even extreme ranges.. so just becuase your at a long range dont mean you should tone down your evasion. -MOON point B.. ASSUME its being watched by the enemy.. snipers.. vehicles.. shotgun campers.. its very open with a turret nearby.. always approach this spot with caution.

Some other random tips and tidbits I picked up over the past few days (full disclosure: I'm a PVE guy, so my focus has been Explore and Story; I'm also an XB1 pre-order - I was only undercover with a spare beta code for my dusty, ancient PS3 until Wednesday). This is all based on limited testing and observation, so it's not "official", and it may change in phase 2 of the beta or the final game. HOW DO THESE STATS WORK? The basic stats of Strength / Discipline / Intellect (gear) and Armor / Recovery / Agility (subclass) have already been widely covered, but when looking at gear, there are some other stats of interest. ATTACK: This is not a damage / DPS stat, but rather the shooter equivalent of "to-hit" from RPG's. But since all hits are based on player aim, shots don't hit or miss from this stat - instead, the damage of the resulting hit is scaled based on the difference between your weapon's Attack stat and the target's Defense stat. If your Attack exceeds the target's Defense, you'll do full damage. Otherwise, you'll do some reduced amount proportional to the difference. This is critically important if you're facing high-level mobs or participating in the Iron Banner PVP event, where gear stats matter. If you're just farming low-level mobs or participating in regular Crucible PVP, this doesn't matter nearly as much (in fact, for the Crucible, it doesn't matter at all since damage is normalized for all players). DEFENSE: This is the inverse of the Attack stat. Higher Defense applies damage reduction to all incoming hits that have lower Attack stat. Again, important for PVE and Iron Banner, but useless for regular PVP. Choose your gear accordingly. IMPACT: This is the actual per-hit damage stat on weapons. The "bar" for this stat doesn't seem to be universal though, in the sense that a 10% value for a Sniper Rifle will result in a much bigger hit than a 10% value Auto Rifle. It's only really useful for comparing different items of the same weapon type. RANGE: This is an indication of how far away a target can be hit from before damage penalties start being applied. You'll notice very quickly that the range penalty on Shotguns is severe, making them completely useless outside melee / CQB distance. DAMAGE TYPE: All shots from elemental weapons apply the listed damage type. The "Kinetic" damage type simply indicates that a weapon has no elemental effect. As mentioned, the only enemies in the beta that are susceptible to elemental damage right now are Hive Wizards (weak to Solar) and Fallen Captains (weak to Arc). Nothing is currently weak to Void. Note, this also means that Striker Titans' special attacks will destroy Fallen Captains and likewise with Gunslinger Hunters' specials and Hive Wizards. GEAR ARE ALL DIFFERENT Weapons and armor with the same name can still vary significantly in their special properties. Gear with the same "family" name will have similar properties that generally improve as the suffix improves (e.g. the common Jigoku SR2 Scout Rifle has a similar stat distribution as the uncommon Jigoku SR3 Scout Rifle, but the latter has slightly better values and more special properties). OPTICS: Green-quality or higher weapons come with unlockable optics, but the type of optics on any given weapon are random. You may end up with a Scout Rifle that only has iron sights and a red-dot, for example. You will have to hunt for that perfect combination. Even optics that look similar behave somewhat differently - the magnification, ADS time, and aim-assist behavior all appear to vary, even if there's no visible effect on the stats page. WEAPON SPECIAL PROPERTIES: The thing that really sets Green- and Blue-quality gear apart from their common equivalents is the added special property. These are also random. Some examples include: * Feeding Frenzy: Kills temporarily increase reload speed * Persistence: Weapon grows more accurate the longer it is fired * Full Auto: Allows automatic fire * Grenadier: Kills reduce grenade cooldown time * Reactive Reload: Reloading grants a temporary damage boost * Luck in the Chamber: One shot per mag does bonus damage * Third Eye: Radar stays up during ADS * Focused Fire: Fires slower but hits harder when ADS * Surplus: Find more ammo * ??: Kills refund ammo ARMOR SPECIAL PROPERTIES: These are less interesting than the weapon properties, and generally have the following effects: * Increase ammo carrying capacity for a specific weapon type * Increase reload speed for a specific weapon type * Melee attacks reduce grenade cooldown time * Increase grenade throw distance HOW DO I GET CURRENCY? Glimmer only rarely drops off of enemies, so farming it requires a different approach. Some strategies include: * Spinmetal: 40 Spinmetal (a material found growing in random spots on Earth) can be redeemed at the Vanguard Quartermaster or the Crucible Quartermaster for 250 Glimmer, Marks, and Rep. * House Banners: A vendor-trash item dropped randomly from bosses and higher-level enemies. Redeemed at the Cryptarch for 200 Glimmer. * Bounties: Once you reach Level 6, you can carry up to 5 bounties at a time for various PVE and PVP tasks. These offer fairly large Glimmer and XP rewards. * Consumables: Ether Seeds and Black Wax Idols are one-time use consumables that make Fallen and Hive enemies respectively drop Glimmer with every kill for 10 minutes. The consumables are themselves rare drops off of bosses and high-level enemies. * HVT-type Beacon Missions: Found in Explore mode throughout the world, this particular type of mission offers the best rewards (100+ Glimmer, Spinmetal, and Rep). * Chests: Silver and Bronze chests respawn randomly throughout the world. There are YouTube videos that cover some of the more common locations. The 5 Gold chests are fixed locations, but they can only be looted once. * Public Events: The first public event you complete each in-game day with Gold status (i.e. three stars - full completion) will get you a Glimmer reward from the Postmaster. * Selling Loot: This is not as lucrative as one would expect. Common items typically sell for less than 10 Glimmer apiece, with Uncommon items going for 15-20 Glimmer. On the plus side, you can sell them directly from your inventory, so no need to find a vendor. BEACON MISSIONS In the Explore game type (i.e. free-roam) there are up to three Beacons in any zone that provide short MMO-style missions for Vanguard Rep and Glimmer. The mission types can be identified by the icon that shows up in your Nav overlay: * Pyramid Icon: Collect material drops from a particular enemy type. This is a good one to pick up while farming mobs. Kills in any zone count, so no need to stay in one place. * Diamond Icon /w Four Arrows: Kill a certain number of enemies. Same as above, but even easier since any enemy type will count. * Ghost Icon: Scan an object (e.g. fuel dump, tech console, munitions from a tank). This requires a trip to a specific spot to scan, which may be in a different zone. I find these time-consuming and not worthwhile. * Compass Icon: Scout a location. Despite the description, you don't have to scan or look at anything in particular - just stand on the waypoint for a few seconds and you'll be done. Similar to the scanning mission, this may take you to another zone and is time-consuming. * Circled-Star Icon: Kill a high-value target (HVT). This is the best-paying mission type and is generally more fun than the others. A named mob with an entourage will spawn in one of several spots and you have to eliminate them. PUBLIC EVENTS These spawn randomly in various locations throughout the world. Note that there is no loot reward for these beyond whatever random stuff would normally drop from killing things - this may be a big let-down if you spent a ton of time killing a Devil Walker. * Kill Devil Walker: Just like the Strike mode mini-boss, but with a 5-minute timer. Focus-fire one of its legs until it collapses and reveals its core. Shoot the core for big damage. Repeat. * Kill HVT: A special mob with VERY high HP / Armor will spawn and walk a route with several waypoints. The mob must be killed before it reaches the end. This will require full firepower from several players. * Kill Extractor Teams: Three teams of mid-level enemies will spawn at different locations with a 60-second timer to clear each. Use your Sparrow to get to each location more quickly. * Defend Warsat: A satellite will crash to Earth and players must stay inside the white circle near it until it reaches 100% transmat progress. Waves of difficult enemies will keep spawning in. Don't worry about dying - respawn and run back into the circle! SECRETS There a few hidden things in the Beta, some provide rewards, some are just for fun: GOLD CHESTS: There are 5 gold chests hidden across Old Russia. If you collect all 5, you unlock an upgraded bike (faster and more durable than the default Sparrow). These upgraded bikes can be bought from the Tower Hanger too, but this one is FREE! Check YouTube for exact locations of the five chests. Note that one of them requires that you get to the Sepiks Prime boss fight in the Devil's Lair Strike. HIGH-LEVEL AREAS: There are at least a couple areas in the Beta where Level ?? (i.e. too high to identify) enemies roam. One is a large underground cave system that connects The Grotto to the Rocket Yard, filled with Hive. The Grotto end of the cave is guarded by a Hive "Shrieker" enemy that can't be found anywhere else. The Grotto can be found by taking a valley route on the north-east corner of the Forgotten Shores. The Rocket Yard entrance to the cave can be found by following the glowing green side-route near the mesh-hacking event seen in the Devil's Lair Strike.

    • I only disagree with you on the point of Fusion Rifles. The fact that they cannot CRIT doesn't mean they're sub par to sniper rifles in ever situation. The Devil Walker is a prime example. My max damage Pompeii does 403 damage to each of the DW's leg joints. My fusion rifle does 62x7 damage anywhere on it's body. That's a 31 point damage increase and I can hit it anywhere. Now against enemies that can't actually be CRITed normally, snipers are superior. Shielded enemies are weaker to fusion rifles, due to the fact that if you're matching elemental damages to the proper shields you can drop them in 3 hits or less. Yellow health bar enemies (armored) take reduced damage from elemental sources meaning that snipers are superior in this situation as well. In conclusion: Snipers and fusion rifles are about even against average fodder enemies. Both are capable of killing in a single expended round. Snipers have an advantage against enemies with standard critical multipliers and armored enemies. FRs have an advantage against shielded enemies and enemies that take reduced critical damage to certain weak points.

      • Nice work. Saved a strike this morning by running and hiding when the other two team members went down. NO WAY would I have survived if I had tried to go on fighting. In the final fight against Sepiks, if you are the "last guardian standing" YOU WILL TAKE FIRE FROM EVERYWHERE. Trying to be a hero will only get you a checkpoint reset....

      • So I go to preorder Destiny today and the freaking gamestop was having issues with the codes and I could not get one and they said they doubt they will have it back up working before the beta launch on Xbox One. I've been waiting forever for this game and was so hyped for the beta now I'm just freaking out that I might not get into the beta. Can someone please give me a code if your not going to use it or are just mildly interested in the game. If anyone can hook me up with a Destiny beta code for Xbox One I'll be forever grateful from you. Please email me the code please don't post it in the thread because someone might steal it so email it to me at me3x12@gmail.com Please help me on this I'll owe you one in the future for sure.

            • Here's a little something to add to the cause if you've played Halo to help you find what you're used to from the start... Scout Rifle = DMR Pulse Rifle = Battle Rifle (BR) Shotgun = shotgun Sniper = Sniper Auto Rifle = Assault Rifle (AR) Fusion Rifle = ( If Boltshot and Railgun had a baby. It's like a oneshot Boltshot with close to mid range, but doesn't shoot unless you charge it like a Railgun) Rocket Launcher = Rocket Launcher Hand Canon = Magnum (I want to say like CE)

Now I am saddened by this because I enjoy playing the beta very much and I am very impatient to wait for this great game to come out! • Wow very good guide for lower players, very thorough and detailed for anyone who hasn't taken the time to learn the advantages of the game. Although now the knowledge isn't held by just the pros xD sad :(
