Hey, Bungie. I have a question and I'm sorry if it's been asked and answered before, I haven't been able to find any posts about it. It's a lengthy post for the sake of being thorough, so I hope everyone has the time and patience to read through it.
First of all, I'm in love with Destiny. I've been setting money aside every month so that I can devote to it and all future content downloads, possibly even microtransactions. Your videos, interviews, game footage and the fact that you're backed by a AAA publisher with the money to cushion any mishaps makes me 100% Destiny advocate.
Because of this and because of the fact that, to my knowledge, beta access is only granted to pre-order customers, I hope you can understand how serious this question is for all of us who really just want to buy the game and not be disappointed.
American internet. Let's be honest, it's terrible. I'm in a populated urban area in California, and I subscribe to a 50mbps download and 10mbps upload package with an average of 30ms. Yep, it's Comcast. The terrible, awful behemoth of all that is evil in the universe.
It's the only competitive ISP my area has and as awesome as my connection sounds... it dips down to 1.0mbps down, 0.2mbps up and a fluctuation between 200ms and 500ms latency. There's nothing that can be done about it - It's the neighborhood hub and, of course, "anti-open internet" bureaucracy. Sometimes services become unusable, sometimes they don't.
The question: How much effort is going into Destiny's netcode and are both Bungie and Activision taking the terrible state of America's internet situation into account when developing the game? What sort of performance does Bungie want us to expect from the game during those moments when we have pings in the triple digits?
Thanks in advance to anyone with a great answer to this, and thanks for Destiny. Don't let a capitalist internet economy ruin it!
