So nobody is going to cover that Machinima & MS thing? Imagine that if it was the other way around there'd be some but there should have been at least one here. I'd make this more professional but...eh.
Anyways turns out MS & Machinima offered a deal where YouTubers who promote the Xbox One and it's games as their own opinions/thoughts would get paid. Obviously some of you will find nothing wrong with this but this is what you'd call pathetic/sad? Have to get YouTubers to promote this stuff and paying Jen in secret. Not all did it and not all YouTubers are -blam!-s that should "go bankrupt and get a real job" or whatever.

Guys, this isn't advertisement. Advertisement would imply that the viewer knows that the company that owns and sells the product (Microsoft and the Xbox) are openly paying to endorse and promote their products. What is happening here is a form of propaganda, whereby the company secretly enlists what are thought to be independent 3rd party sources (Machinama youtube personalities in this case) to promote the product without disclosure of funds, to influence their viewers to get the product. Remember the scandal a few years back when known video game critics left their sites and fully admitted that their reviews were skewed by advertisement funding, access to early review copies, and pressure within the companies? The situation is not unlike this. And there is a reason why there is pressure on politicians and companies to disclose how much of their funds are coming from where. Those of you chalking up any controversy this is generating to angry "sony poneys"or the like need to grow up and realize that console wars are for small children with nothing better to do. This is a matter of credibility and would apply to both companies; you can fight over who has the smaller wang elsewhere.
So nobody is going to cover that Machinima & MS thing?
You mean just on this forum? I think it's already being pretty thoroughly covered on other websites. IGN and Polygon both had pretty prominent stories on it at least.

Shrek.

Woah guys! Next thing you know, MS are going to have TV commercials to advertise their product. How dare they!
-
Its called marketing dumbass so i don't see the problem with that.
-
Oh yeah, I think two best friends did this. At the beginning of the video, the Machinima logo was immediately followed by an Xbox One promo. Immediately after that, cartoon matt and pat were angrily beating the shit out of an xbone
-
Alpha did, and I agree with him.
-
Grow up. You assume Sony and Nintendo don't do this either.
-
Another Sony Pony who doesnt have any games to play on his PS4 so he comes here to bash Microsoft. Pff...
-
Actually, there's about 3 threads on this.
-
Be mad at the YouTubers who took this deal, not Microsoft.

Breaking news: multinational corporation uses advertising to promote it's product

Going through the other replies here, it looks like you're the only one that cares.
-
o lol sony pony detected
-
No one is covering it because it's a non-issue. Do you seriously expect Microsoft to pay youtubers to make commercials or advertisements for them that portray their product in a negative light?
-
So MS is just advertising their product....didn't know that was bad.
-
It happens in all aspects of advertising. It's called an endorsement. Kenton James makes millions off of endorsements. What's the problem.

So, what you're really saying is... you're pissed that Sony didn't think of it first? It's a viable marketing strategy. Much worse has been done in the name of marketing. This isn't even a blip on the radar. Besides, your anger is misplaced. Don't be pissed at Microsoft for trying to pimp their product, any company would do it if they thought it would work. You should really be pissed at the YouTuber's who've "sold out". Get your priorities straight.
