If we were to assume it was being used in the manner as follows: [quote]lacking knowledge or awareness in general; uneducated or unsophisticated.[/quote] But let's try and use this meaning more often: [quote]a state of being uninformed[/quote] The second one seems much less harsh and offensive doesn't it? Because being Ignorant of something doesn't always mean you're a moronic simpleton without an education, it can just mean you're not currently aware of something, which can be accounted for by being made aware of something from someone else telling you. So let's try and do everyone a favor, if you're arguing with someone and they aren't aware of a fact or source, just tell them simply: "You seem to be unaware of this small detail, let me help you out of your state of unawareness", it sounds much better than "Let me help you out of your state of ignorance", which can easily be misconstrued as saying they are ignorant in all facets of life.
