Notification for being Muted

I wish I knew how many people muted me, it would really help me figure out if I'm doing anything wrong or not to be quite honest. I've made some repulsive threads in the past, and I wish there was some way to apologize for that, but there isn't so -blam!- you lol. But I seriously think there should be a way to know if you're being muted so that you can correct your ways on the forum.

  • I absolutely despise the mute feature.

  • Adding such a notification defeats the point of being able to mute a user. The point is that you can shape your own experience without it affecting others. Removing the ignorance of who is ignoring you is counter to this design. A count may be something we would entertain, but even that isn't all that likely.

If people knew how many others muted them, I think they would use it as a trophy - they want to get attention, this would only confirm that. IMO, it defeats the purpose of the mute system. Just make contributing posts and not worry about how others limit their own experience.

I agree with you wholeheartedly, this would be of great use. (Though it really should be just a number.)

People who are worthy of being muted aren't going to change their ways for a while. If they knew who muted them, it could potentially cause more problems than solve them. I'm all for showing a number of how many people muted them in an anonymous fashion, but I'm not too big on them knowing exactly who muted them. If in fact being muted doesn't teach them a lesson, all they have to do is create a new account to bombard those people with spam or whatnot. In the end, I don't see what it matters. If you're muted, you're muted. Knowing who muted you really won't change that.

    • On another forum with a similar system, when you click on your name, it shows a list of people you are ignoring and people that are ignoring you. They should do that here.

    • A better idea would be to show how many people have muted you, or hidden a specific post of yours.

      • "I wish I could apologize but I can't so might as well tell everyone to -blam!- off." Real mature. Le sigh.
