The Death of Star Wars games as we know it.

As we all know (or should know by now) Disney has purchased Lucasfilms, and thus the Star Wars brand belongs to them. But we're not here to discuss that. We're here to discuss what else Disney reeled in from Lucas. You see Disney now also owns LucasArts, the video game company created for Lucasfillms. Now the Star Wars games might have for the most part sucked this generation, but last generation they were spectacular. Who can forget games such as Knights of the Old Republic, and Battlefront? And Of course there was also Jedi Academy and Republic Commando. I had hoped this generation would be a dry spell, and the upcoming one would be filled with great Star Wars games yet again. However with Disney now owning LucasArts this looks less likely. It seems Disney wants to focus more on mobile games. “We’re likely to focus more on social and mobile than we are on console,” said Disney CEO Robert Iger during a conference call. Yikes. Looks like we're in for another slew of terrible Star Wars games. But there is some light at the end of the tunnel, my friends. Disney is at least considering letting other developers use the Star Wars license. "We’ll look opportunistically at console, most likely in licensing rather than publishing." Well at least we can look forward to Star Wars 1313, as that game was being developed before the Disney takeover.
