Player reviews are the worst reviews I have ever read.

I can not fathom the thought of someone having over 400 hours in a game and just talk about the negative aspect of a game then not recommend it to anyone but still continues to play it. Same with the ones who go, "This game is too repetitive can't keep me interested for too long." but has over 1000 hours of ingame time. I just, I just don't know anymore.

  • I don't trust reviews at all. I look up gameplay and see how it truely is for myself. Reviews are always gonna be biased no matter what.

  • Gamer reviews in general are better than bought off-I mean IGN and Metacritic.

  • Better than IGN reviews, They gave advanced warfare a 9.1/10 and gave alien isolation a 5.9/10

    • Well to be fair it's just the addictive tendency of the user, they know the game is bad, but they can't stop playing it, that's what happened to me with destiny

    • Are they any worse than critic reviews?

    • I don't watch or read reviews - just straight up in commented or muted gameplay then if I'm interested might go on some forums to see the comments

    • Addicts. I'd trust meth addict that told me all the negative side affects...even if they continued to use.

      • I know it sounds dopey but I really trust YouTubers. Not the huge market ones because they can be paid off. I take a collection of YouTuber's opinions on a game and make a purchase based on that. I find most YouTubers to be really honest.

        • It's not the source, it's the quality. Until you know a particular reviewer you need to be suspicious, if the review does not back up the assertion, disregard it and instead reward the ones that are good, articulate, and fact based, even if it's just a "like" or upvote. I'm not saying buy into it, but you should be able to get a feel for the reviewers tastes, and if they like our dislike an aspect (e.g. they like competitive MP and you don't), think accordingly. Fact is people on the internet feel a need to be heard above the noise (to wit - all of the pathetic "watch my twitch/YouTube/whatever" threads), so they're not going for anything but outrageousness. Their reward is people paying attention to them, even if it's negative. Which leads me to my last point, the plethora of shitty reviewers is partly to blame on the people reading them. Most don't have the time to read a well thought out, or even poorly thought out, review, or the mental capacity/desire to read one analytically. This is why so many reviews are reduced to bullet points. tl;dr - last paragraph sums up tl;dr'ers

        • Be more specific please. What do you define as a "player?" Anyway I actually find most reviews that are done by people who get paid to do them to be worse. Because they all echo the same thing. Youtuber reviews are even worse though. Just look at angry joe.

Someone from work told me not to buy Resident Evil 6, worst Resident Evil game to date. Well that's their opinion, I liked RE6 and I've played most of the RE games. Players said FFXIII was a bad game, but I loved it. I say Fallout 4 ( like the rest of the series ) is pretty boring. I even fell asleep once when I was trying to play Fallout 3. But other players like that game. I am however confused on why anyone still thinks Destiny is fun to play. Most of my friends are barely playing it now. I still don't have TTK and never plan on getting it either. The game itself has made me rethink games, I'm never getting another Season Pass again. If anything Destiny has made a review in it of itself. You don't need anyone to tell you if the game is good or bad.

            • Best way to see if you like it is to play it. According to reviews Killer is Dead should be pretty bad but I kind of loved the game.

              • I try and keep my reviews pretty realistic. The only game I can recall praising far more than pointing out it's flaws is Witcher, though in retrospect it probably wasn't the best reporting I've ever done. I should have my new review out later tonight, so keep your eyes open

According to user reviews, a game is either perfect or it's worse than Hitler. Apparently, there's no in-between; games just cannot be good or decent or mediocre. It's either the best thing in the world or it's pig diarrhea. The worst thing are the reviews that try to be funny. Last I checked, reviews are supposed to be informative, not the place to try out material for your shitty stand up routine. It's why I completely ignore and disregard user reviews.

                  • Negative reviews are fine long as you go really in-depth. Most people can't do so though.

                  • I think a review holds more merit with adequate time played. Otherwise the argument becomes "Wow this is a shit review. The guy hardly played it" There should be some good in a game if you poured in an adequate amount of time. Even if they're in the minority, you at least as a reviewer should list them. I've written reviews for movies I've watched that were totally shit with no positives though. Like the stupid movie....might have been king of fighters. Live action. Omg. Worst piece of shit I've ever seen. Injustice to the game. So there are imo games that are complete shit to the reviewer, even if the reviewer poured in a significant amount of time. Especially peer reviews. We can't return a game after we open it. Sometimes we try to force ourselves to "get our money's worth".

                  • Then you have mainstream Reviews that are the other end of the scale, game reviewers are all casuals since they try out so many games they don't play any of them for long so when you hop onto a Review site what you're reading or viewing is the opinion of someone who plays the game for a few hours and may never touch it again/may have never played an earlier game in the series. Ultimately all Reviews are flawed in a lot of ways and the only real way to determine the enjoyment of a game is to try it for yourself, if I'm genuinely on the fence I will often watch some Twitch streams so that I can see the game in action and see a persons opinions unfold as the game does. A lot of niggling little issues come up in live gameplay such as annoying enemy mechanics or terrible controls because the player in front of you will actively voice these frustrations, you can also see how stable and/or buggy the gameplay is right there in front of you.
