So take this with a grain of salt because it is a crackpot theory but i think it holds some weight:
Activision holds the sole publishing rights to everything destiny related. Activision also recently aquired MLG one of the biggest esports organizers and the oldest. They have aceess to all MLG events and streams. My theory is that activision is pushing bungie to get destiny pvp realdy for the esports scene. which is why there are so many channges coming to destiny's pvp. The matchmaking is being made tougher because they want better players to start rising to the top. The changes to game modes and special ammo are tweaks to try and make matches more competitive because they would be more entertaining to watch as an esports event.
This is my theory as to why bungie decided to hide and lie about the matchmaking changes until it couldnt be covere up anymore. This is my theory as to why bungie is continuing to focus of problems in pvp that most people were not really being vocal about and ignoring the ones in pve that people are being vocal about. Activision is trying to get its investments aligned here.
Again this is just a crackpot theory and i definitely have my tinfoil hat on but i think there may be some nuggets of truth to this. Anyway let me know what you guys think.

I blame the Rand Corporation and their army of reverse vampires.
-
PVP content is the cheapest and easiest to produce, and has the longest replayability. Respawn said in an interview that PVE play cost 75% of the budget of a AAA shooter
-
Im ok with it as long as we keep gettin raids and new strikes/and good loot to grind for
-
PvP is the cheapest and easiest content to develop. They don't need to build any extra world space, all they have to do is change the scripting.
-
Or we can operate using Occam's razor, and go for the generally correct simple solution. PVP takes fewer man-hours to produce content for and is far more replayable than PvE content.
-
It's because it's cheap and can be implemented and maintained by a skeleton crew. Hence all the recent bugs.
-
Activision can't push or force Bungie to do anything. Destiny is the property of Bungie and only Bungie. Activision has publishing rights - they can't control content in Destiny. Here's an idea. Maybe Bungie can't possibly put out a new Raid every goddamn week like you idiots think they can. There is no big red button to press for a new raid. PvP is the only thing that can sustain an FPS game in between content expansions. It's either PvP in between, or nothing at all.
-
Correct me if I'm wrong (I'll ask my prof just Incase) If bungie is in a contract with Activision and let's say they don't want to be anymore (which I doubt) Would changing the name of destiny void their contract allowing bungie to find a new publisher since the name destiny would be the one on the old contract?

Destiny is to casual and not balanced enough for mlg. Even if they made a special mode with no supers and everyone has to use the .same gun and armor it would still be imba because the map design is imba. I feel bad for any who plays this at a competitive level. All the changes every few weeks would make it upsetting especially if you really care
-
Or its just drastically cheaper than making new content :v
-
Cheaper, easier, and takes far fewer people when most of the team has moved on to the next installment. Destiny PvP as an esport is laughable.
-
Honestly PvP is just less resource intensive to develop. Bungie has already written destiny off and moved the bulk of their assets to destiny 2. Crucible isn't really built for esports either.
-
It's all about $ and resource allocation. PvP takes very little to maintain and support.
-
There is too much to balance in terms of weapons/abilities/perks/supers for Destiny to ever show up in the esports scene.
-
esports... lol. Video games are not a sport.
-
There's a number of things wrong with your theory. Activision bought MLG assests. Not Bungie. Forcing SBMM doesn't make players better. People that genuinely want to get better will get better. Forcing it on everyone is just poor decision making. Crucible has to be one of the worst MPs I've ever played... -Needs dedicates servers. There's far too much lag. -Constant thoughtless nerfs with very little buffs. An over used weapon means a nerfed weapon. -Maps aren't symmetrical at all. There are clear advantages to certain sides of maps. -Secondaries are powerful and available too often. -Heavy ammo spawn is horrible. The whole team can have it and LMGs get too many shots. Crucible is a complete joke and the furthest away from ever becoming MLG material. Maybe Destiny 2 will make the proper adjustments so it can be half way decent from what we have now.
-
I don't think this is all that crack pot. It just makes sense.
-
People say destiny isn't balanced enough to be an esport, but look at cod, it's no where near balanced, bo3 may be but I stopped playing comp cod in aw, but a few main guns always stand out so...
-
Pvp is never ending unlike story content.
-
faze banks?
-
So i just realized my mistake...I put bungie instead of acticision when i was talking about aquiring MLG. I apologize that was not what i meant to say.

Edited by Muka Gatals: 2/8/2016 9:39:08 PMI am a PvE player...Right now I just play PvP if I have to..like IB, SRL or Quest line...to upgrade my PvE gears. I love to play PvP if it against friends. Make a private PvP..just make some bounties on regular PvP does not work on this mode to prevent abuse. Make the reward as RNG participation only. That would be fun. We will assemble teams..picking the the strongest and the weaker player..and have some fun games. We can make our own rule between us...like the high skilled player can only use certain guns...make challenge to them...etc. Because the reward are RNG...that even more fun.. 12 players in 1 party 6v6...!

Until the base PvP engine and P2P is reworked and replaced, Destiny can NEVER be an esport.

Edited by Train of Insane: 2/8/2016 10:34:50 PMNew PVE content simply takes longer (more man-hours) to create. Destiny's only sources of revenue for year two so far have been PVP-based "special events" that raise real money through silver sales and that could be quickly thrown together with little relative effort to keep their cash flowing. As long as people continue to spend real money on these things, there will be no actual real content added to Destiny. For all of the Bungie worshipers that blame Activision for the current state of affairs, it was Bungie that failed to honor its contractual obligations with respect to new Destiny content; they bit off more than they could chew and could not produce content in the manner that their contract required; yes, Bungie could not do what it signed-up to do for whatever reasons. Bungie suggested to Activision that Special Events and Silver sales would provide similar profits with a lot less work and Activision allowed Bungie to try this scheme. The question now is, have they become too complacent and/or lazy to even try to continue the Destiny vision that the original contract laid-out for us all? Or in other words, if profits meet forecasts based on micro-transactions with a lot less work than would be required for a true game expansion, will they ever do a true game expansion?
-
Bungie didn't expect Destiny to be any different from Call of Duty, Halo, Battlefield, etc. Competitive multiplayer has historically been more popular than co-op missions. Their mistake.
-
Wrong Bungie never aquired MLG that was Activision. So you're theory is wrong!
