My Thoughts on Fallout 4 - 20 Hours in

Have you ever gone completely blind into a new genre of a video game? That's exactly what I did a few days ago when I got Fallout 4. I didn't know what to expect, the closest thing I've ever played to an open world RPG was RuneScape. And if any of you have played RuneScape back in 07, you know what the REAL definition of a grind is. Before Fallout 4 I never played a fallout game in my life. I followed the hype train and figured if everyone's going crazy over it, I might as well too, right? I'm glad I did. I'm not going to lie, at first I was very overwhelmed and confused. Fallout 4 doesn't do a very good job at explaining things. I had trouble from the very beginning, trying to get out of vault 111. And as if that wasn't enough, once I got out I was thrown into this huge world with no indication as to where to go. I was just about ready to put my controller down and say "nope." But I didn't, instead I walked. And walked. And ran. And walked some more. Before I knew it, I was getting power armor from the Minutemen. I started doing side quests with absolutely no idea that I wasn't even working on the main story line. And then, when I discovered how to use the map and I saw how much untouched territory there was, I lost it. I ran everywhere going crazy discovering new areas and new things to do. I've honestly never had so much fun with a game before. I've probably only touched 1/4 of the map at this point. I learned a very valuable lesson about quick saving often. If you ever buy this game, get in the habit early on. One thing I absolutely hate about this game, though, are the glitches. I've walked into Diamond City and literally EVERY single NPC was swimming around in the air. I've gone to my settlements only to find a pissed of Nick Valentine inside my power armor (which makes him look hilarious btw) unloading everything he's got at me. Don't get me started with Dogmeat. After you see him attack a mole, you'll want to hire him as your next NASA spaceship. Point is, 20 hours in, and I absolutely -blam!-ing love this game. I have so so so much more to do it's insane. I'm definitely looking forward to every bit I have left TL;DR
F*ck off
• Runescape- a world where everyone, at least once, attempted to wear goblin mail

    • If you liked it that much you should play the other ones, at least fo3 and new vegas. All great games. New vegas is still my fave of them so far.

    • Im just ashamed it ignored a majority of New vegas' improvements and quests hardly have different out comes. Still a solid game though

    • Felt the same with fallout 3, which got me interested in the series and I eventually played the first 2. Being that they are different games I got that feeling again. --------Only problem after that is now Fallout games from Bethesda are disappointing after playing the first 2. New Vegas doesn't count because it is largely just as well done as the first 2. Which go figure is because it's made largely by the same people, that is not Bethesda. Fallout 4 has been fun, but it's too shallow to call itself an RPG for my tastes. Same especially goes for calling it fallout. That's not to say Bethesda isn't learning but there's some give and take at play so it's ultimately meaningless.

    • I've still yet to hit any glitches anything like that. I've had the elevator glitch twice(always quicksave beforehand). And a weird NPC model glitch after killing them which makes them un-lootable. And about three crashes.

      • What do you play on? I'm on Xbox and have not encountered a single glitch.

      • Oh boy. If Fallout 4 and Runescape are the closest games to the RPG genre that you have played, you haven't even scratched the surface of what a full blown RPG really is.

      • My problem with fallout is that they want you to explore then put high level enemies. Like I finally did lost patrol quest AFTER
Danse got found out to be a synth
and those -blam!-ing super mutants still had skulls by their name while they perfectly sniped me from halfway across the map.

        • I feel you. Haven't played an RPG in years and am having a hell of a time with Fallout. I'm noticing large 3 hour chunks of my life disappearing.

        • Frankly, the thing I hate the most is the Weight Limit. I fuсking hate the weight limit. I get overburdened every 10 minutes like holy shit. I went out of my way to glitch SPECIAL points on Strength and used the Caps glitch for fusion cores and drugs and food so I can carry 500w and it's still not bloody enough! I regret not getting the pack mule perk now. It's not east being a kleptomaniac.

          • Also if your companion can't carry anymore, command them to pick an item up, and it bypasses that, essentially making them able to carry as much as you want them to.

            • Well if you haven't already, I would highly recommend skyrim until the next elder scrolls. Bethesda has a rep of a making very good games.

            • Stop picking up armour and weapons, keep dumping junk in your workbench, offload stuff on your follower when you get full. Also check your AID items, some of them weigh a lot so it's a good idea to sell off a load of the ones you don't use.

Yup I played a lot of RS for years off and on, I laugh at all these noob threads bitching about Destiny's "Grind" P.S. I haven't played Fallout 4 yet, planning on waiting until they release it in a year from now with all the DLC included and bugs fixed like they did with Skyrim

              • I only got to you saying "if you played 07 you know what a real grind is". Did you play classic? Classic was worse than 07. I also hate that it's called "07". It was 2005-2008.
