Let's break down the new cutscene at the beginning of the taken King.

Has anyone else really thought about what Mara Sov was saying? I believe that in some way this cutscene is showing many hints to what may come. Maybe it even shows you who Eris Morn really is. Let's start of with how it opened. The ghosts were sent out during the collapse, which I'm sure all of us already knew. Some key words "I was born the moment the traveller died...". So would this mean the Traveller is dead? The Traveller isn't protecting us we are protecting ourselves! This cutscene could also be pointing out that it was the first ghost? Along with this beginning part our ghost says "I know it made me to bring you back." This meaning that your ghost wasn't looking for just anyone it was looking for you. The ghost says that he spent centuries searching, so does this mean we have been dead for VERY long time? I believe this also means that the collapse was a very long time ago. So maybe with some of the information in game and in the grimoire, we could discovered exactly how old we are and exactly when the collapse happened? Let's skip to Mara Sovs part. "I remember everything about the day I was born. I still bear the scars." What could this mean? She was born in battle? Was she a guardian that was abandoned by her ghost and left to die? Or maybe did the darkness attack her? "We fought to keep our beautiful creation safe." I believe this means something more than her ship. Although it's a great ship, she sort of let it get destroyed..... Could she mean us? "You and I know how this ends. We've known since you escaped that.... Pit." I believe that Mara is talking about Eris. Which could mean Eris is Awoken. I don't believe she would be talking to Oryx or our guardian for well a few reasons. Oryx and our guardian didn't exactly "escape that pit" but who did? Eris Morn, but was she stuck there for no reason? I don't think so, she has powers that we don't see other guardians have. Now this leads me to another point. I do not believe Mara Sov is dead, and maybe the rest of the awoken isn't. Eris was able to teleport us out of Crotas realm, couldn't she do the same to the queen? I believe some how Eris got powers to see the future and do other things that maybe we don't know of yet, and that is why she carries that husk around." "The awoken have played their part." Mhmm, yeah they did practically nothing.... "This..... Was all part of the plan." Wait, how did she know this was going to happen? As a matter of fact how is Mara even saying this right now. She's supposed to be de..... But maybe she isn't! I think the most cryptic part is the last line although. "Guide them, my hidden friend...." Which gives us another reason why Mara couldn't be speaking to us as guardians. She has to be talking to someone helping us. Which leads us to believe it is Eris Morn. Who helps us the whole time during TTK? Eris Morn..... And Cayde. Eris Morn escaped a "Pit". What does everyone think? Anyone want to disagree? Anyone have a different idea? Have anything to add? PLEASE leave a comment. tldr: Mara Sov: possibly not dead. Eris Morn: possibly has super powers and can see the future. Our future: all part of a plan. Edit 1:Ciferhex brought up a great statement:
I've said this in other posts, my thoughts are that Eris is actually Toax. I know eris' backstory, but i think it's all a ruse. How did she alone survive the pit when her whole team died? How does she have those strange powers? Why does she really have 3 hive eyes? How does she hear crota and oryx in her mind? She, (Toax) had been out running the hive for centuries, always a lil smarter, always one step ahead, every time they caught up with her, she narrowly escaped! She somehow made her way to earth, possibly on the heels of the traveler? Did she get stuck here when he was diabled? Or did she fatalisticly know this was the last stand of the light cuz Rasputen out maneuvered the traveler? The time she spent in the pit may have lessened her ablity to cloak her true form, (we know from the BoS that krill can shape change). She returned with 3 eyes, with a pat story that she had to do it to survive, again i think its bs. She wields powers that only manifest themse in hive. I say she is Toax, and she fights a larger battle then we know. Her and the warmind are what are protecting us, and subtly guding us to final resolution.
Edit 2: bmearle pointed out this:
Edit: the awoken were created by the blast of light hitting the darkness, that was emitted from the traveller when it was attacked by Rasputin. So for her to be "born" when the traveller "died" makes sense.
Many others say that the Awoken did play their part, I guess they really did.

Bump please I have a new theory that has not been posted here yet but I want to read a couple grim cards to make sure it is even possible. edit Okay this may be a little out there. But here goes. There doesn't seem to be any grimoire pointing to this, but there isn't any that says it's not possible. I think that the exo stranger could possibly be the queen reborn. It doesn't seem possible that Mara sov's body could have survived the dreadnoughts weapon, but it seems that her brother still feels her essence somewhere. The queen has/had powers that we don't know about I think she somehow preserved her consciousness/essence. Sometime in the future we will find this out and obtain her essence and place it into an exo frame. The stranger had the ability to time travel. It could also explain why the stranger is not"created in light". Sorry for the ideas bouncing all over the place but I'm not too good at this lol. I was just reading different theories and this popped into my head. If anybody has any other ideas that support this is love to hear it. And if anyone can disprove it I'd also like to hear that as well. thanks for reading.

    • My question is what where those balls of light that Mara shot into the Dreadnaught? If im not mistaken there were 9 of them (What comes in 9's and is associated with the Queen of the Reef? Hmmn i wonder) and they didnt seem to actually harm the thing, more like bury into it. Also as we know from the one cabal strike the power core for the dreadnaught could wipe out HALF THE SOLAR SYSTEM if it blows so really what the hell were the Awoken doing out there!?

      • She is clearly talking to Eris. Eris morn crawled from the pit. And the "hidden" friend remark is actually a reference to a secret group of guardians working for the vanguard under Ikora. The group is known as the Hidden I believe. Also conversations between the awoken royalty and Eris pertaining to Oryx's arrival could be found in the Grimoire during HOW expansion. I haven't yet figured out all of it, but that much all seemed abundantly clear to me.

        • I was thinking about some of this when I started my hunter the other day. A lot to comb through. There's a few theories that Mara and eris have a long history and there may an evil plot and eris is playing her role. This plot involves Taox and/or one of Oryx's sisters. As you quoted someone in your edit, the Hidden were a group of guardians Eris was a part of. My question is HOW Mara knew eris before all of this, in game there's no connection. I know in the grimoire there's a lot of dialogue between the two. I took her comment on their "creation" to be the Reef, not just a single ship. That doesn't make make much sense since we can still go there. Oh yeah, the traveler is dead, which brings up a lot of questions from the start of the game. It's almost as though the Speaker is either hiding that fact, or no one really knows it's dead.

*sigh* did you not notice the -blam!-ing fleet oryx had? Yes that's how the awoken played their part. She destroyed the fleet.

            • If you watch the first cutscene with the ghost, you can see some type of explosion in the background. I always wondered what that was. Also, I think the wire and her brother will return in the next DLC for the cabal. Hopefully. I love the cabal. And the prince is stuck on Mars.

I thought the first part was common knowledge or maybe just common sense? Our Guardians lives are thought to be taking place 700 years after the Collapse. The Awoken were born in the huge explosion in the fleeing of the colony ships. Mara is probably talking about those scars. The Queen is most definitely talking to Eris & I honestly don't think she's dead.

              • Firstly, the Awoken were born from the Collapse, from when the Traveler died, the combination of Light and Darkness created the Awoken, "the Awoken are my family now", " I still bear the scars", meaning that the Awoken weren't always her home, something cataclysmic transformed the Awoken, possibly indicating she is a "firstborn" Awoken. "Our beautiful creation", that is her family-the Awoken, the Reef. Eris is most definitely human, and she has probably developed a relationship with the Queen prior to the battle, she obviously knew her at the time she asked Mara to help end Oryx, but Eris is human. "All part of the plan". Mara knew more than she let on. She knew, or at least guessed she would not win the fight around Saturn. At the last bit of her saying, " Guide them, my Hidden friend," she is talking to Eris, as she is known to be part of the Hidden. Eris having powers we don't yet know? Possibly, that Orb she carries speaks to her in some way. I'll have to disagree with Cliferhex on the Taox theory. She didn't have three eyes before she went into the Pit, she also had a Ghost before going into that Pit. The Krill evolved into Morphs, such as the Knight, Mother, King, etc, not simply a cloak to their appearance, and Taox is a mother morph, meaning she would look similar to a wizard.

Read the Reefs grimoire, there is a fragment involving Eris perhaps being a prisoner or living on the reef and the forming of their allegiance. EDIT: Eris teleported your guardian out using some verse from Toland, she says so directly after teleporting you in the mission. That's not her power, but I do say she can manipulate that orb though. The Queens brother is still alive, he crash lands and sets up a search party. Read the Grimoire people!

I thought it would be cool if Mara Sov either is the spark or is controling it. I never understood why this little "Taken" light seemed to be helping us through the story and the raid. But if she sacrificed herself intentionally... P.S. I don't think she is dead and she will probably be back. Wouldn't it be cool if she had Oryx's Taken powers??? O_O

The queens dialogue is all metaphors. She wasnt born literally it was in battle, her creation is probably her awoken empire. And stuff like that. Edit: also the awokens part was to destroy the rest of the fleet. If you notice, it starts out with a massive hive armada and end with just the dreadnought.

                          • The Awoken destroy the Hive fleet and stop the DReadnought from advancing (whether its disabled or Oryx is just cautious (perhaps about the Dead Orbit fleet Zavala mentions being in reserve at the start of Outbound Signal). Buying time for the Vanguard to devise their assault and take out Oryx. Hence playing their part, and now its time for Eris to rally the Guardians (and warning them about the superweapon so they don't fly in and get annihalated)

Maybe a bit off topic but I noticed something no one has pointed out. In the TTK cinematic you can watch now on your director shows a warsat landing on an asteroid which then crashes into the dreadnaught. No body mentioned it during the sleeper hunt, and it was not part of that, but I bet it serves a role.
