Microtransactions Are Funding Future, Free Content

Please go read the article and stop the incessant complaining. Edit : I think using the abbreviation of DLC was not correct in this instance. If given free content, it will more or less be a few missions, daily/weekly events or updated Y1 exotics. The previous DLC plan seems to be fading out rapidly. Smaller content drops, funded by our cosmetic purchases seems to be the future.

  • No. A game with a budget like Destiny doesn't need this to make "free content".

  • It sounds to me like they have abandoned the year 2 dlc plan: the numbers aren't there with TTK. So that was it. Destiny is complete besides tweaking. Cutting their losses. Shifting the crew to Destiny 2.

Finally someone that gets it. No one is making you do micro-transactions, but in the long run they are feeding money to this game that we all hope will continue to being us new content. GTA Online had micro-transactions and all the money they made from that went straight into new content for the community... At no extra cost for us. I know I personally did not spend a penny in GTA Online and still benefitted from the free DLC. Rockstar even admitted this themselves, I read it in one of their updates.

If I showed the masses where we was at or where we was going. I'd shatter the balance of Destiny as we know it. I'm talkin' bout the grand deception of this bitch Tess Everis's and her Trading Post of souls sold to the heavens. For technologically advanced weapons, engrams enhanced, emotion implants and RMT methods. Pay 2 win is not majestic and the focal point of our problems on this planet are not Vex infested. You can accept it or be shill'd and be a skeptic and fail to recognize Activisions secret death wish. 97% of our content has always been present. Responsible for laundrin' millions of dollars from the nation. For the construction of underhanded micr-trans installations. Abductions and profit margin calculations Experiments on human patients; Can take place in several Corporate HQ bases. 343 stories below a basement with knowledge of Guardians expectations You need to fear Bungie not Satan. Cause through the manipulation of certain monetary agents They create strange creations. Top secret special operations. Low drop chance, duplicates, gated contents When Plebs didn't believe in the Pay-2-Win equation. Yeah sure..... They make it sound so nice don't they? Not that hard to pull the wool over people's eyes when they are sheep already. MICRO TRANSACTIONS USED TO NOT EXIST IN VIDEO GAMES. K?? WE USED TO GET FINISHED GAMES AND NOT A BETA FOR THE FIRST YEAR. K?? All these video game companies do now is make betas and sell us the patches and "DLC" later, which should have been included with the game to begin with. The only time we get free DLC content is when people get outraged enough to threaten boycotting a game developer for being too greedy. It's like they don't even playtest their games anymore. They rely on the community for that. GTA5 anyone? Skyrim anyone? How many patches did those games take before they were playable? EDIT: I'm not saying that they are so bad right now, because all we are getting is emotes. I'm just saying that if they test the waters with this and make money more microtransactions will be commonplace in the future. We used to not have DLC either. Now it's the gaming standard.

        •
Whether we wanted it or not, we've stepped into a war with bungie on Earth, so let's get to taking out their command one by one. Tess Everis. From what I can gather she commands the micro transactions from an imperial kiosk, just inside the Tower. She's well protected, but with the right team we can punch her nose, take this beast out and break their grip on our money.
• Yes it is free content but you have to pay extra in order to use it. They will need you to install the update by default, next dlc will be $20 for ttk hard mode. Then $80 for destiny 2.

              • Honestly I would rather pay 20 or 40 dollars for an actual full dlc with a raid.

              • "Our plan is to use these new items to bolster the service provided by our live team for another full year, as they grow and create more robust and engaging events that we’ll announce later this year. It has been, and continues to be, our goal to deliver updates to the game. Going forward, our live team is also looking to grow beyond vital updates and improvements to focus on world events, experiences, and feature requests." -From the official update. I think we'll see smaller, trickle fed free dlc as part of events. Imagine taking The Dark Below and combining it with Queens Wrath. The first event would have a few new missions. The next event would have another set. New Crucible maps could be added with Iron Banner or Trials. Maybe one or two maps per event. I think there will still be at least one big Expansion between each numbered release. (ie Destiny, The Taken King, free dlc, Destiny 2, free dlc, New Expansion...)

                • meh. As somebody below stated... I'll believe it when I see it. Free content from Activision just seems silly considering we know how greedy they are. Why would they pass up the oppurtunity to make even more on top of emotes? Hopefully I am wrong and the article is truthful though.

                  • U sir are living in a fantasy land if you think Activision will release free dlcs. Have you played Tony hawk 5? They are willing to release garbage of a game just to sell few copies before the licensing expires. They will do anything to generate as much revenue as they possibly can.

                    • the degree of micro transactions should be something that can be acquired in game. there is a difference between a micro transaction and a pay wall a pay wall is content that is in the game locked behind a purchasable key only obtainable through monetary payment. a micro transaction is a faster movement of currency to acquire items in game that may take longer to acquire while playing the game normally. i fear bungie is going the pay wall route, not to mention we still have yet to receive more than a few new exotics beyond year 2 remakes......i guess micro transactions are going to unlock that stuff for "FREE" right

                    • No it's not. Bungie promised to have new content weekly before launch, that never happened. You can't trust Bungie, they are not the same company they used to be.
