• Christiand believe what's in the bible. Certain religions branch off of Christianity, but an apple branching off of a tree is not the tree itself. Mormons claim to be christians, yet every person who is mormon that I have asked has no clue what the rapture is.

Originally it was. However, with the veneration of Mary, the collection of idols ( holy objects ), and the praying to the dead, it slipped into a quasi pagan state which allowed for inclusion of the remaining stalwart Roman pagans to join in. In fact some of the Saints have similar qualities and even images to Pagan Gods. The truth is it is a religion without any life. Jesus said that repetition and tradition is meaningless. All Roman Catholics do is tradition and repeated prayers. So in close. Yes they were Christians, Yes they are now what we call a denomination. But no, they are not Christians, they are Catholics.

        • Yes and no, though catholics believe in God and believe that Jesus is the son if God and that Jesus died on the cross and came back to life three days later, and then went to heaven, catholics do have one major technical stain when looking at the bible. This mainly has to do with their pope, the pope is said to never be wrong (at least in accordance with Catholic doctrine), the pope also tends to be given a very high station, usually above that of regular people (said to be closer to God). However this does go against many things in the bible. So it depends on each persons definition of what it means to be christian. If the only requirement for being Christian is what i stated earlier (about Jesus) then yes catholics are Christian, but if your definition of Christian is more to dd with following the Bible and believing in everything stated earlier, then Catholics may not fall into the category of Christian. I for one can not say for curtain because i am not God, i do not have infinite knowledge, and therefor i can not pretend to make a final judgement. For me personally i view this kind of thing more in degrees, so for me Catholicism is on the edge of Christianity due to putting a human close to the position of God (only God can not be wrong).

Technically I'm Catholic. It is part of Christianity. I don't even know what the difference is between regular Christianity and Catholic, but I do know that it's all BS.

Catholicism was the first form of Christianity...then the great schism happened and poof eastern orthodox in 1045 (something like that)...then Martin Luther and the Lutherans came about like 500 years later. ( since then tons of different flavors of Protestant have arose) Sounds like your friend is extremely ignorant of Christian history if he thinks Catholicism isn't apart of Christianity

              • Constatine wanted to unify the people. The pagans and Christians were fighting. He brought the 2 together in Catholicism. It's basically the pagen holidays and rituals with Christian names. That's why there is an Easter bunny and Christmas tree during Jesus birthday and the day Jesus rose from from the dead.
Anyone who thinks Catholicism isn't a part of Christianity is quite blatantly ignoring the part where Christianity is specifically made up of all these hundreds of denominations. Just because you think your specific denomination is the correct one, doesn't mean yours is 'more' Christian than another one. If you all believe in Jesus and follow The Bible, you are ALL Christians.
• Well, there the religious Christianity that is like any other religion, man trying to get to God through ritual actions, and then there's true Christianity which is God coming to man. So, because Catholics put a lot of stock into their rituals, I could see how people could say they arent.

                            • Christians: Jesus Catholics: Mary, the Saints, and Jesus. Catholicism was created to manipulate kings and make money by selling "get out of Purgatory free cards." After most of Christianity was forced to stay in the Catholic mold, Martin Luther decided he'd had enough of their bull. So he wrote 95 reasons why Catholicism is stupid, and nailed it to the church door. Then he and a bunch of other rebels started up the Protestants.

                              • Roman Catholicism is probably the largest and most well known christian sect. However their traditions and practices are not biblically based. Off the top of my head. The veneration and offering of prayer to or through Mary. Having to go through a priest to be forgiven of sin. The fetishization of the bones of saints and other "holy relics", the crusades..... Etc. All this and more is the exact opposite of what Jesus preached. So how can you say jesus is your lord then turn around and do the exact opposite of what he says and then give your "church" more authority than God? Tldr- Catholicism is a sect, is completely unbiblical and has done more to turn people away from the bible than all of the roman emperors combined.
