They've made a great game, let us play all of it.

It's time. Matchmaking is needed for raids, nightfall, Trials and higher level PoE. The argument that this content is too hard to be handled by a random team, while valid, is not good enough to deny many at least a chance of playing this content. LFG sites provide a matchmaking option outside of Destiny. This works sometimes but often it is a mess. For example, I've attempted to play ToO this weekend using the LFG sites and have been unable because the casual lists are underpopulated and the competitive lists are not considering noobs like me. The result is that I am unable to play and improve in a mode within the game that I think would be a blast to play. My point is LFGs are the only option for those of us who don't have five other Destiny players on our friends list, available for raids or whatever. This matchmaking option provides a good experience about 25% of the time, but when it does, when you find the right group, man this game shines. Offering the ability to matchmake within the game will provide an improved ability to access the game. That's what this is about, accessing the game. I understand that getting the right team together might happen once every 4 sessions but at least there's a chance for it to happen. LFG is not the answer. Lets face it Bungie developed the best matchmaking game for its time, Halo 2, and is more than capable of making a good matchmaking experience for the hard content within Destiny as well. If it requires more than one person, there should be a matchmaking option! THEY'VE MADE A GREAT GAME, LETS US PLAY ALL OF IT.

Someone else posted somewhere else that an in game LFG would be perfect especially in Bungie's new kiosk system- simply go to Kiosk and create or join a group. That's the best of both worlds... Not my idea but seems legit. Edit #1 I personally believe matchmaking should be up to Lvl 34 PoE, nightfall and .... That's it- Trials- which I don't personally partake in I have no opinion but in game LFG seems legit to put together a balanced team and there is to much criteria for the raids and PoE 35 to have a viable matchmaking e.g some ransoms do not have mics, not a wide enough spread of player class and subclass diversity- and it would seem that is with raid experience should be able to pick the people we want to take with us and lead them through. I'm really enjoying reading this post, and hope someone comments on this from Bungie. #feedback #bungie #destiny #destinyideashop

I've run all end game activities with randoms. It how i made friends to run it in a solid group. I still run it randoms and without people having mics since we're all on different time zones, bungie can get over themselves, its not impossible to do. Edit: In short, OMM needs to be part of this game.

      • LFG is the exact same thing as matchmaking, you're just doing it manually. I've encountered all the same problems of matchmaking with LFG. LFG is just more time wasted when people rage quit, lag out, don't have mics, make noob mistakes, and etc. And I'm not believing the whole "make friends" excuse Bungie has given. I think there's something else to their refusal to matchmake certain parts of the game.

      • I always fight for this cause but I think the last update has solidified for me that Bungie is cemented in their "philosophy regarding endgame content", and that The Taken King will continue on with this fireteam only mandate indefinitely. Firstly, Bungie believes that fireteam walls should be a hurdle in acquiring endgame items and experiencing endgame content; in short, they hide the good stuff behind fireteams. Why? So that you cannot acquire it alone. This creates a possibility that you'll emplore others you know to buy the game and play it with you in order to access nightfalls, raids, and POE in your quest for the game's top items. Nothing to do with bonding and friendships, everything to do with sales. Secondly I believe that what they've announced as their plan for the nightfall in TTK indicates they're making a compromise; bending but not breaking. Removing the 25% week long experience bonus granted by completing the nightfall and replacing it with a universal 25% built in, always active bonus for everyone to enjoy is like meeting us half way -- you can have the bonus but still must run the nightfall in a fireteam if you want the drops. It means they're thinking and acting on the matter. Although reluctant to give in they do recognize a need to do something to adress the situation. They're definitely hearing the year long cry for optional omni-matchmaking, they just refuse to break their business model even if it means 90% of the player base will never truly get to appreciate the full scope of their game. LFG is garbage, it's no solution, it's a crutch that enables them to lock things away behind fireteams, nothing more.

        • Bump. If Bungie actually listened to their community optional matchmaking would have been in Destiny before the HoW launched. But I guess their "philosophy" doesn't agree. "finding a team is part of the challenge", all I see there is: We're too lazy to let you people play the content you paid for, so quit the game to find a team or just make more friends.

I understand that getting the right team together might happen once every 4 sessions but at least there's a chance for it to happen.
They won't give you it, because they want you to form lasting friendships and bonds in the game that will keep you playing once the content is revealed as too limited because Destiny is an extended version of a minimum viable product model, mixed in with a ransom model. So the main goal is to keep you playing while they tempt you with future features and only implement a tiny bit each iteration because anything more might not have a wide appeal.

            • Back in the Halo 2 days that was a different Bungie. The company has changed a lot and different people are in charge of creative aspects and balancing. That's why Destiny will hardly overcome it's problems. They don't look at their legacy for guidance.

            • Optional matchmaking has no downside. If people want it, it's there, and they can play all aspects of the game. If they don't, they can turn it off and go outside the game. How someone chooses to play the game has zero affect on the staunch anti-OMM group at all, so their arguments against it have no standing.

                • I agree with you. Bungie makes a valid point (on paper, at least) when they say that the content is hard, and requires a lot of teamwork, and coordination. However, I think it is better to allow people the opportunity to try and fail, rather than kicking them out from the start because they don't meet an arbitrary list of requirements. Consider Mass Effect 3's multiplayer. When the platinum difficulty was released it was so hard that the failure rate was insanely high. However, matchmaking allowed people to continue to try. People learned new strategies, new ways to build their characters. We all got better, and today you can jump into a game with a bunch of randoms and have a good chance of succeeding. There are even people who can solo platinum, because everyone had the opportunity to try.

                    • Most of the existing content will not be played after TTK comes out. What is the point of grinding VoG, CE and PoE if the weapons and armour you get are not as good as rare equipment (never mine Legendary) from TTK? If you can't ascend raid equipment to latest levels, there is absolutely no point completing the old raids, etc. Goodbye to a large portion of the current content , hello to more complaints about not enough to do in the game.

                      • Here's my take: https://www.bungie.net/en/Forum/Post/102878440/0/0 Summary: matchmaking needs to be optional and should be applied to story missions, the daily, weekly and nightfall. Bungie then needs to build in an LFG service in to their game for Raids, PoE and Trials. Matchmaking is a functional idea for these latter activities, but in my opinion, it would be a disastrous one.

                        • They should've had a player board system in game where you could view a list of fireteams who are looking for players and what game type are they participating in, like in monster hunter.

                        • I am not against OMM, but honestly, I would never use it and I doubt seasoned players with established groups would use it either LFG is superior because of handpicked groups. I wouldn't want to be stuck in a raid group of 6 hunters or something. The point is, IF we ever get OMM, I don't think its fair to come to the forums complaining about AFKers in raids. That's what comes with it.
