Hate messages Bungie causes
Hello everyone! As we all know, Iron Banner is back this last week of August, and is a favourite part of Destiny. What absolutely infuriates me is watching my son get bullying messages for playing because he sometimes has a red bar!!! The hate messages are brutal, but how is the lag our fault? We have satellite internet with a 6+ mbps download, but because Bungie does not use dedicated servers, its a person to person connection. Again, how is this OUR fault?? I've spent just over $1000 to upgrade my Internet so we can play this game, but my son doesn't want to play anymore in case he's spoiling someone else's game because he thinks the lag is HIS fault. Now, he's getting messages with name calling, threats, and other things, and this is the outlet he uses to help cope with an anxiety disorder!!!! I actually had to prevent him from almost committing suicide because he's become depressed about the hate mail, and inability to play. As a father, I beg you Bungie, please do something about servers and hateful players so at least year two is better for the people who just want to play!!!! I know there are all kinds of people out there, but we're not cheating while playing- we're just having a hard time connecting to your PvP game mode! I would appreciate some kind of feedback from someone at Bungie on this matter. Thanks for your time...

3 RepliesHey again, i think that it is not fair for your son to stop playing because of that, he can still do raids, vanguard, etc Also I sent him a message in the morning to play osiris but I didn't got a response, maybe you blocked all the incoming messages incluiding friends Tell your son that he can send me a game request whenever he wants and i will be pleased to play with him

2 RepliesHello! Now there could be a couple of reasons for this. A: Your internet is probably not good enough to play iron banner, seeing how it is already laggable. B: If you're on ps4, there is a way to shut off messages... I forgot though. C: I think this could be a better post in #feedback. Thanks for your time.

5 RepliesDo you go to a golf course looking like a hobo using broken clubs destroying the course and making everyone else there have a bad time .... No you dont because your a decent hunan being. its common courtesy to not play online games with shit internet. a 6 download is one step above dial up (when you cant talk on the phone and use internet at the same time)

3 RepliesI too have general and social anxiety. It shut me down for four years. Your child is not alone out there. I play for fun and try not to take the game too seriously. I would just ignore those people as it will be just a few bad eggs out of millions of players. You can play with me anytime.

I'm a little confused as to how it's Bungie's fault your child is receiving angry messages over [i]your[/i] connection. I personally don't enjoy not knowing where an enemy will teleport to in any game. One person red baring, just in pve alone, can cause a whole raid team to feel the lag. The thought of Crota or Atheon regening health isn't a pleasant one.

It shouldn't happen, and it's people like that who give gamers a bad rep. That being said, satellite internet is [b]bad[/b] for gaming. Bungie using dedicated servers would do nothing for you. Bandwidth does not matter in gaming... you can get along find with just a couple mega-bits now-a-days. So the fact that you get decent bandwidth over satellite does not help you here. But satellite's built-in lag going from earth -> orbit -> earth again is a lot further than the fiber-backbones. So you get a horrible ping. HORRIBLE ping. Gaming is all about the ping: the time it takes the packet to go to/from your home and other people The speed of light is a real jerk at times, I long for the day we finally bypass it. But it's hurting you here, my friend. Your situation is pretty much the ONLY technical situation that Bungie is not at fault for.

Second, Bungie servers are terrible regardless of how much moola you spend at home. I even get red bars from time to time yet nobody has called me out on that so far. Third, the Internet is full of jerks and the online gaming community is no exception. The try hards will do anything to be the best at something, even if it means causing serious harm to others. It's just the way the world is. We as a species kill each other every single day on this planet. Just try to focus on the good in life while ignoring the bad.

1 ReplyYou should be able to block incoming messages from strangers. Also, while it's true that dedicated servers would help with the lag, the problem with satellite internet is the high ping, or how long it takes to receive new data. Although your download speed is okay, you will always experience a significant amount of lag because of the physical distance the info has to travel. I know you probably don't have any other options for ISPs depending on where you live, but that's the way it is.

3 RepliesI'm guessing your major issue is your speeds on your internet. Please understand that Destiny uses a TON of bandwidth and is a constant on internet game. Meaning it CONSTANTLY uses internet speeds because it is a P2P game connection. Equally important, unlike any other PvP game out there, it uses a HUGE amount of upload bandwidth. Anything under 5 Mbps is going to experience EXTREME amounts of lag playing any form of Crucible. You state that your download is 6 Mbps which is EXTREMELY slow as far as internet goes especially for PvP gaming.

1 ReplyAlso bungie's servers aren't bad When I have bad connection obviously i am lagging all the time but that is because of MY internet connection. Bungie doesn't have anything to do with it
