Behind the Arc, Before the 'Guardian Down': Subject- Rex-5742 #1

The room is black as you gaze into its empty embrace. Nothing sturs, nothing moves, except a Little Light. It floats up to you. It's shell is the standard white but the core flashes a rainbow of colors; red, orange, yellow, green (This color stays present slightly longer than the others), blue, purple, and white. The Ghost of the Exo Hunter, Rex-5742 watches you for a time then talks to you in its languange. "Beep beep. Whirl, whirl, click." It's shell expands as you are treated to a recording of the memories lost to Rex but remembered by his Ghost. Day 1. Test Beta, Alpha, Delta, Fifty Three. Rex's algorithms run for a time then he opens his eyes. The room is a simple white but filled to the brim with people in lab coats and parts for machinery. He looks around at the crowd as they burst into joyous shouts. "It works!!" "This is amazing!!" "I told you it would work!" This one belonged to the man that stood beside him, the one with the biggest grin and the happiest smile. He tapped a keyboard several times. The cables surrounding Rex fall off. "Come on buddy! Walk for us!" He stared eagerly at him. Rex didn't know who they were nor didn't care. His purpose was to follow orders, so he stepped from where he was previously held down and walked to the center of the room. The room erupted once more in a roar of cheers and shouts. "He's amazing!" "More realistic than the Frames!" "Someone ask it to say something!" Rex ran an algorithm, checked his vocal processes and spoke. "Something." The scientists erupted in laughter and more cheers, many were crying and clasping each other on the back. Soon the man who released him walked over to Rex and looked up at him. "Hello! I am Doctor Xavier Varience, your creator and friend." "Hello Doctor. What do you need me to do?" "Just what you have done now was more than enough! I thank you." He started to wipe his eyes of tears. Rex ran several algorithms, none of this information made sense and the way these men were reacting made even less sense, but it was not his place to judge. "If that is all." He walked back to his place, stepped on the charging station and shut down. The doctor stared at Rex for a while then smiled. "Well... I guess not everything can work right off the bat..." He looked at his colleagues. "Alright everyone! Our prototype works but we still need to work out the kinks, let's make this problem work!" The room roared in enthusiasm as the memory faded. Day 13. Beta, Alpha, Epsilon, Sixty Four. Rex opened his eyes once again to see Dr. Varience hovering over him. "Morning Rex-5742." "Morning Dr. Varience." "I'm just running some quick tests on you before I let you up." "I can check myself, Dr. Varience." "I'm just checking for myself." He typed on his keyboard several times before the charger began to rise to a near vertical position and the wires deattatched from Rex. "There. Step off for me please." Rex obeyed and looked around the room. No other scientists were present but the room was filled with parts and Frames. Some that resembled his blueprint model, other were more basic and less interesting. As Dr. Varience ran more tests along Rex's back, Rex noticed a glass door and a young girl pressed against it. She stared wide eyed at him for some reason. She wore a bright red dress that poofed a bit near the shins. Her hair was a golden blond and her eyes were a light blue. He ran several algorithms and deduced that she was about 10 years human aged, and she slightly resembled the doctor though no record in his databanks contained her information. The two watched each other for several minutes before Rex finally got annoyed with being looked at. "My databanks don't show her." He pointed at the girl. "Who is that?" The girls eyes practically bulged out of her head for being acknowledged by him. And she raced through the door. "DADDY, DADDY! IT POINTED AT ME!!!" Dr. Varience dropped his tools and barked at the girl. "Katherine! What are you doing here?! I told you to stay in my office!" "But Daddy! I wanted to see your creation! And he pointed at me!" Her excitement about such a little thing confused Rex. He looked at the Doctor. "Is she your daughter?" "Yes she is. Now Katherine go back to my office!" His face glowed a furious red as Rex added the data to his memory. "HE CAN TALK TOO!!! Please Daddy can I watch?!" She jumped up and down in excitement. "No! Go on now!" "But Daddy! You said I could help one time!!" He paused for a moment. He thought. "Alright... You will be in charge of telling me if Rex-5742 moves incorrectly." "YAY!!!" "But! You sit in that chair." He pointed to a chair near a desk. "Don't touch anything, don't move, don't even fidget unless I tell you otherwise, Ok?" "Yes Daddy!!" She scrambled to the chair and watched Rex diligently. Rex simply turned his head and ignored the girl but he could feel her eyes drilling a hole in his endo-skeleton. The remainder of the testing were just simple movements that he passed flawlessly. Once he was done, he stepped onto the charging station and began to power down. Katherine hopped down from her chair and raced to the door. "He's so cool! He can move and talk and respond and everything!!" Dr. Varience sighed. "Yes he can but he has a long wat to go to be perfect." He grabbed his coat and joined the girl in leaving, shutting the lights off as they left. The last thing Rex heard was, "Good Night Rexxy!!!" "Rexxy?" He thought through his algorithms. "Rexxy... is not my name." https://www.bungie.net/en/Forum/Post/150851930/0/0 Link to part #2
