Elemental Primaries & RNG: The Real Year 1 Issue and the Solution

I call this the "real year 1 issue", but this really only pertains to the PvE crowd, and it addresses what I believe to be the reason people are upset and how that can be remedied. Although this is more so based on my personal feelings and experiences playing Destiny in year 1. Year 1 Weapons Being Left Behind We all kind of knew this was coming and I think this is the main thing people are mostly upset about. I know I'm upset about not being able to bring Vision with me, or even word of crota. I really enjoyed those guns and some I had only gotten recently because of RNG. Some of us didn't get to spend enough time with certain weapons because of the horrible RNG system and this can be one reason as to why we're all pretty rotted. I never got to experience Fatebringer because it never dropped for me during my time in VoG which was also really crappy. Now I have no motivation to even bother with TTK right around the corner. The main allure of these endgame weapons isn't just that they were "endgame" or a trophy from the raids, the main allure of these was that they had great perks and were elemental primaries. This is where I think year 1 went wrong. The Problem Elemental primaries (in my opinion) were the most sought after weapons, and the best reward you could possibly get. The fact that a primary weapon has an element shouldn't be the wow factor of a gun. The sheer fact that I had a scout rifle with solar or arc damage made me never bother using an exotic primary. Legendary raid weapons easily outclassed their exotic counterparts simply because of elemental damage. That never sat right with me, and I was baffled by the fact exotic primaries didn't have any elemental damage (them being the highest tier of weapon). Seemed like a no brainer for PvE, but it's one of those decisions Bungie makes that I'll never fully understand... Proposed Solution Make elements less of a factor in favoring weapons. In TTK you're giving us a way to let us keep using guns we like, but once elemental primaries come into play that system will seem incredibly pointless. Let us infuse elements to TTK weapons! There are many different ways this could be done. 1. Elemental Cores: Instead of raids just dropping elemental primary weapons, have "elemental cores" drop as well. We could then use that elemental core (of whichever element dropped) and infuse it with the legendary weapon of our choosing. Raids aren't even required for this to drop, this should be something that can drop from nightfalls or can be received from legendary engrams. Hell, it could be another use for etheric light, since it doesn't seem like that will have a use. 2. Xur Infusions: I feel like Xur is a bit underutilized, and we haven't heard of any changes coming to him in TTK. In addition to exotic weapons/shards it wouldn't be too crazy to see him sell elemental cores/elemental infusions for legendary weapons. Similar to how you can buy sparrow upgrades, you can buy legendary weapon upgrades. He could potentially sell random elemental weapons as well. 3. Elemental Toggles: We've already seen that some armor in TTK has perks specifically for elemental resistance etc. This same system could be applied to legendary weapons, be able to toggle an element at the cost of another perk, or be able to toggle between elements. In Conclusion These are my thoughts on how to maybe solve a little bit of the issues we face in Destiny. With this kind of system I wouldn't be so burned about year 1 gear not carrying over. I could easily replace my vision of confluence or word of crota with a gun I might be even more comfortable with. It would also make me want to experiment with more weapons. I feel like this would benefit the game and players moving forward. Elemental combat in the game is a large focus especially in higher difficulties and the nightfall. I feel like we should be able to better arm ourselves when fighting minions of the darkness. This would also make us less dependent on drops. I know Bungie wants us to grind and grind for raid gear and all that jazz, but there are more ways to make weapons desirable other than the one deciding factor of elemental damage. Elemental damage on primaries i think should be a more accessible part of the game, either that or exotic primaries should have elemental damage and not just raid weapons. Bungie might already have something like this in the works, we don't know because we rarely ever know. But just in case, I wanted to post this here. I would love to know what the rest of the community thinks about this, please let me know your thoughts and ideas on this subject. I know everyone has their own opinion about year 1 etc. etc. and this is just my opinion/view on it and my personal experience with the game. I'd like to hear comments about this particular idea and how it could affect the game moving forward.
