A question to anyone who can relate and has dealt with drug addiction or helped a loved one who has:
My wife's younger brother is addicted to heroin and so is his long time girlfriend. My wife saw him tonight for the first time in a few months and said it was immediately apparent that he is as close to death as anyone could be. She said she'd never seen Him like this before. He looks pale, bony and frail and with sunken in, hollow eyes with dark circles, and jutting cheek bones, and had sores all over his face, arms and legs. He had just left the ER with a swollen foot that had gotten infected by what the Drs suspect was shooting up.
My wife sees and hears about overdoses all the time and feels like she needs to do something before he kills himself but doesn't know what she can do. He and his girlfriend had gotten clean and were doing really good for over a year, had NA tattoos and were considering pursuing being drug counselors until about a year ago. They both deny any recent drug use even though it's blatant and not even a question that they are both not only using again but on the verge of death.
what should she do?

You could try and make them go to rehab.
-
Inject marijuanas into their eyelids. Repeat daily until they have switched to marijuanas
-
Make them watch Requiem for a Dream sober
-
They need Jesus

By the sound of it they're going to have to make a choice real soon. Life or death. The only people that can make the change is themselves.

First-time not give him any money. Second try not to be judgemental regarding the relapse but try to encourage treatment again, not methadone. It's up to the individual if they want to get help, sadly no one can be forced.

It's a bad one, their in a spiral of self destruction and pushing them the wrong way could make things worse. Prison wouldn't be the worst for them, it would force them to go cold turkey from the drug and they would be well monitored in there too. Give them some time to think too.

If you can't get them to stop taking drugs, at least see that they eat properly or don't live in squalor. Have to be realistic, they're unlikely to stop just because someone recommends it, so all you can do is help keep them safer.

You've clearly made the rights choice by coming to the experts Honestly, if that's true good luck with everything

1. Shoot heroin 2. Understand what they're feeling 3. Never shoot it again 4. Tell them what you did to not do it again 5. ??? 6. Profit
