Mini Wall o' Text Alert!
Dear Fellow Guardians,
I have a story that I feel compelled to share. It may not be important to everyone but it is important to me and I think that everyone should know it. Thanks for reading!
When Destiny came out, I was still starting out on PSN. I had a few friends who came over to the next-gen from the old but for the large part I was starting from scratch. Most of my friends played either Battlefield or GTA and when Destiny came out, I was largely left to finding new friends on my own. I played with a few friends occasionally but the larger game content was still out of my reach. The Vault of Glass seemed like an impossibility.
I first reached out to the community sometime in October looking for a fireteam to help my 26 Hunter triumph over Xyor and finally complete my long-fought Thorn bounty. I had joined the PS4 Reddit group on the Destiny app and was scrolling through looking for someone in the same boat. After a few minutes, I saw someone post that they, too, needed to complete the Xyor challenge. A 26 Warlock going by 'ThePinkStingray'. Great success! Invites were sent out and I was even more pleased to find out this was also the ever-elusive gamer girl! The plot thickens.
We defeat Xyor with little to no problem, sent out friend requests and started planning for the next challange. We got along famously. She was just starting out playing socially and was very excited about the future of Destiny and the myriad of content it had to offer. I was new to the game as well and expressed interest in fleshing out my (then newly created) clan and exploring everything that Destiny had to offer as well. She agreed to join the ranks and a fruitful gaming friendship was born!
Over the coming months, we played often and plenty. We cheesed, downed, wiped, teleported, explored, farmed and hunted everything we could. We found new friends, new clan members, and new fun things to do. We had our frustrations and our victories. When we had grown weary of Destiny in the DLC hiatus, we played other games but still talked, becoming better friends all the while. She made plans to come out and visit me and my roommate (she is in Utah, I am in California) and to meet some of the other local members of our clan.
As the date of her visit grew nearer, we exchanged phone numbers and became Facebook friends to ease the transition to 'real life'. She was beautiful. She was smart. I was -blam!-ed. We began to talk plenty and often. We exchanged nerdy internet comics and funny pictures and articles. We texted to all hours of the night. I started to realize that maybe this gaming friendship was becoming something much more interesting right around the time I found myself sending her good morning messages first thing after waking up.
A week before she was to come out, we decided to Facetime to get rid of some of the jitters of meeting face-to-face. The deal was sealed. I was smitten. And luckily for me, so was she. We talked every night from that day on. Our clan bickered because we were always truant now. We let them know what was happening. They took it better than expected.
The day she came in, I was a nervous wreck. A thousand possibilities ran through my head. Could this really be happening? What are the odds? Am I being catfished? How I am I going to -blam!- this up?
What ensued was, hands down, the best weekend of my life. Never in my wildest dreams could I have imaged that I could meet someone so incredibly perfect for me in every way and especially not in the way that we met. We have a lot of challenges ahead of us, both in real life and in our many digital lives but they will all be worth it as long as she is there. And it's all the better because I know she feels the same way!
What is the point of this post, you may ask? Never underestimate the universe in its ability to bring you joy when you least expect it and in the most creative ways. Of the tens of thousands of people that I could have found to help me defeat Xyor at that moment, I found my soulmate. My Little Light!
For some, it's fate. For others, it's luck. For us...it was Destiny! :D
I'll show myself out...
Happy Hunting, Guardians!
TL;DR: Wanted Thorn. Found Love.
Thanks Bungie and Destiny and thank you /r/DestinyTheGame and the Destiny app group for bringing us together! We can't thank you enough!

*EDIT* Thank you for all the love and encouraging words and stories! It really means a lot especially while we deal with this whole distance nonsense. Happy for those of you who have your Thorn and chin up to those who are still looking! It could be right around the corner. More updates to come from us, I'm sure. Happy Festival of the Lost! :)

Edited by ChaosNova148894: 10/25/2015 10:50:21 AMYou and I have a similar story. Difference is that I met her on Google +, and I get to meet her in two years. And also that I was helping her with the HoW storyline. She was a new player, but with my help, she managed to make it to level 34 in a very short time. And when TTK finally came out, she surpassed her mentor. I was so proud of her, I almost cried. I didn't actually date her for most of that time when I helped her because she was already in a (doomed) relationship. But I reached out to her, told her I'd be there for her, and things took off from there. Sometimes she asks me if I really love her, but I always answer the same way with a smile on my face. She's had days where she's really unstable, and I've always been there for her. I love every second I spend with her, and I want to spend the rest of my life with her. I hope that isn't a selfish wish.

A Hunter and Warlock sitting in a tree R..A..I..D..I..N..G.. Sorry, that was a little immature. Lol. Congrats mate. You never see video games end with "And they lived happily ever after"

Lovely story. Very similar to mine...me and my boyfriend met on MW2 in 2009 played on multiplayer and zombies regular and in 2012 we went on our first date. We get married in October :)
-
I read the entire thing twice still dumbfounded how two people could meet on Destiny and meet each other IRL and create something better than a friendship, congratulations and I hope you to make the most out of life. :)
-
Good job, i guess this is "rng" getting it right. Have a fruitful and succesful life
-
This is amazing I can't think of anything else to say. (Except the fact that I just failed misrebly to try and get through the Thorn bounty strike alone.) Either way I wish you good luck, you're a great example that gamers aren't lonely losers who live in their parent's basement
-
You got the best rewards from your mission :)

Made me want to cry congrats :)
