Losing weight as a gamer...LOL

Being a dedicated gamer I spend a lot of time indoors- meaning i have pale skin and a little bit more fat than I'd like (sorry not sorry). But, I recently came across a "study" I guess you could call it that said people who gave up soda lost like 20 pounds in 6 months. That doesn't sound right, but hopefully it's true because I gave up my precious Mountain Dew and dr. Pepper (precious) and within a week i feel better and actually have energy to go outside, lol. I'm 19 and don't need to lose 20 pounds but I'd like to be healthier at least. I never know what to believe on the diet articles and money scams online, and every health article says something different. So, I was hoping to maybe find some like-minded gamers or some good advice from my fellow guardians? All of my friends are virtual (wow that sounds lame) so any interaction is really appreciated lol. I'm also really shy in-person so going to the gym or even our community pool is nearly impossible for me even with my boyfriend (anxiety is a bitch, what can I say) but I like taking my dog for walks! Hahah I'm also working on the pale skin thing, slowly but surely wearing a tank top and walking my dog will heal me of my Casper-itis. XD Thanks for reading my annoying plea for human interaction and advice, right now I'm just a house-girlfriend so it gets really boring once the chores are done lol.

With exercise I kinda started with like an RPG mentality. Y'know when you start out you're weak and can't do much so your goal is leveling up and learning your next skill. For me I started with push ups and trying to do a certain number and then from there I just added more exercises until I had a full workout. If you're looking for info I liked going on nerdfitness.com for workout ideas, nutrition info, and motivational articles.

    • When I go to the gym, I just wear my earbuds and look forward or at the machine's screen if it has one so no one talks to me.

        • I don't do exercises but for some reason i'm fit. I have sometimes though of tuning my arms a bit, but i never do it. The reason why is because i have big butt and is jiggly which is uncommon for pale girls like myself. I'm afraid if i do exercise it would be become smaller and also lose the jiggly factor, which is why i tend to balance the food i eat so i don't have to resort to doing exercises. ♠ Mara Sov ♠

          • I haven't heard about giving up soda resulting in a 20 pound loss over 6 months, but I'd believe it. I've had one soda in about a month and I honestly don't miss it at all. Get used to drinking water, and lots of it. Once you kick sugary drinks, it's just as satisfying to drink a cold glass of water as it is a soda.

            • Soda is literally shit and doesn't belong in the human body. If you're used to drinking several cans worth a day and were to give it up, you'd see improvements. But sugar is highly addictive and hard to give up. It wouldn't be of much benefit for you to supplement your sugar intake from soda to other sources (sweet tea, snacks, etc.). As far as exercising, you could pick up running. I'd assume running outside wouldn't be too stressful but I also don't really understand social anxiety. It will be hard at first, if you're not used to exercising but if you stick with it, you'll see results fairly quickly.

            • Losing weight really isn't difficult. It's just self-motivation. If you want it you can have it. I lost 25 lbs in 2 months and I hardly even tried. I'm about to go another month straight of cutting weight. Will go down at least 15 lbs. Just watch your diet closely and do some kind of exercise, whether it's runs outside, treadmill, or just getting around outside for the day. Determination and consistency is key.

                  • Generally it just depends on what going on. You got a job but when your home you play game till you go to bed/go to work you can keep the weight the same. If you play game till you pass out a day later that a bit different. It also depend on the game too. If you play Destiny or CoD yeah your not really doing much however if your moving around with a Kinect or wii than you'll lose weight

                  • All the people saying drink more water are idiots. Everyone knows that the human body is mostly made up of water. If you never drink water you'll lose tons of weight! It's a foolproof solution. I'm so glad I actually have an education unlike everyone else here.

                      • Simple changes can help. After 3 years of mandatory OT, I put on some weight. I was gone 13-15 hrs/day, 6 days/wk. I'd eat junk from the vending machines and get home at midnight and eat a sandwich and some chips. I wouldn't do too much on my off time because I was drained. I finally had enough when the OT stopped. I started making little changes that really help. I pack a salad and fruit for lunch. I get home and have steamed carrots, an apple or sliced cucumbers(good substitute for chips if you want something crispy). I'm only losing about 3 pounds/wk, but it's better than nothing and I hate exercise. If I stopped eating junk on weekends, I could probably lose 5/wk.

I don't want to sound like a dick, but maybe get a job that will have you work outdoors? I work at a supermarket and you move around a lot. Plus once in a while you go outside to collect shopping carts littering the parking lot. That will at least help with your pale skin issue. lol Walking your dog will help too. Keep that up, and for as long as the dog likes.
