Crappy Internet & Ban Hammer

Since the ban hammer has been swung, there are many people who claim that it's due to their crappy Internet. Be it their modem, router, or ISP that causes them lag. My question is this, should people with crappy internet be banned EDIT: "Temporarily Restricted."? And can you think up of a solution for those who legit have bad connections? Maybe a "Lagged Lobby?" I have my own opinion that if the lag gives them an advantage, then they should be banned or restricted. It is common knowledge that a fast and reliable Internet is necessary for games like this- it's also printed on the box. Just want to see where people stand. And keep it civil! People are still people, crappy Internet or not! EDIT 2 Should there be a "sorry you can't play till your internet is better" restriction? Essentially a ban/restriction that you can do something about. I know that Bungie seriously investigates all claims but nothing is 100% fool proof. However, I do believe most bans are legitimate. And thanks all for being civil. EDIT 3 To clarify where I stand (I guess ban isn't the word I would use for it). With how things are currently set up with Bungie and their policy, legitimate lag or manipulated lag, if is to your advantage, it should be "punishable." Ideally, dedicates servers and a game play much like COD where you experience your own lag a lot where it forces and frustrates you to try and fix your connections! Credit to the user below!

  • My isp gets laggy 5pm till 1pm do to over crowding. I never experienced the win from it ether my lag gets me killed all the time and my shots never land do to it. still play and haven't been banned. So I doubt there were many true lag related bans.

    • Bump the lag lobby. That would be a real quick and welcome change. I'm tired of shotgunning a guy three times in the face and seeing them alive and running into a wall. Takes away from PVP

    • if your internet is bad enough to get you banned, you would code out & RTO or never be able to connect.

      • But also many other games do have dedicated servers and the worst connections do not have that much of a problem. When bungie choose to ban the people for "just bad internet" and this may be the case, bungie are just hurting them selves. My internet is not good or bad. I have chosen the profile on my router, it gives me a faster connection response rather then a faster download. This does help a lot and I don't lag much on bungies non dedicated servers.

        • I neither agree or disagree, instead I think Bungie/activists should finally bring out dedicated servers. Then the legit people with poor internet wouldn't be frightened of the old ban hammer.

This post is for those who use the "my internet is sucky" excuse. People in this day and age have a big problem: They are able to use technology but did not learn or acquire any discipline to use it. I use the word "discipline" loosely but I firmly believe that you should be able to diagnose issues or try to fix common problems if you are to use Internet technology and engage in competitive online multiplayer gaming. It's just how I feel about people and their cars. If you can't change your tire when you get a flat, don't be surprised when you get a ticket for driving with a flat tire without having fixed it. You didn't learn that your internet was shit recently, you knew this before. You didn't bother to google how to improve your performance or isolate your console to your router so that the 500 cellphones your household has connected to the wifi don't interfere. You didn't search up how to improve gaming performance because you would have learned to isolate your console to your modem or maybe assign it a static IP then enable a DMZ on that IP so that nothing that interferes could possibly interfere. (There are a million guides on doing this and your router manufacturer can even help you over the phone to do this) Instead, you did nothing, knew you had an issue and are now complaining because you got caught doing something that hinders the positive gaming experience for others. Just like how driving with a flat tire can be a hazard for those who have to share the roads with you. Bungie didn't randomly select you for a ban like it's a goddamn draw for a cruise. You got reported to them. A lot. Enough so that they took the time to look at your ping/history and determine that you were gaining an advantage on other gamers due to network issues which they suspected were manipulated. Get your shit together and learn about the technology you are using instead of being ignorant.

              • Why should people with dollar store DSL shit on others experience with the game? If your connection doesn't meet standard why should they not be restricted? Games have had connection quality restrictions for modes in the past. No reason destiny should be so special and not do the same.

Any game monitor can tell the difference between "go to orbit" or anomalies with Internet drops. They cheat, get kicked and good riddance

                • I believe that the best thing they could do is have active software that monitors every player's connection. If a player's connection is consistently weaker/slower than the rest of the lobby or drops multiple times during the match, they're removed from the match with an error code similar to what we normally see. By doing this, there should be a record of the error on the acct that can be tracked, and it will also prevent players from playing PvP if they're unwilling to take the necessary steps to have the proper network services to play PvP legitimately. Obviously the error codes should be different for those that have bad connections versus those that are forcing lag and this would make it easier to figure out who to ban and who to only restrict. Eventually, those that just have poor internet connections will realize that they'll need to improve their setup to play or will not be able to play. The deliberate offenders will otherwise be dealt with.

                    • I've never had a red bar or error code my entire time playing and I have a stock cable router. If people are consistently getting errors and red bars it is 95% your connection. (First of all everyone should be hardwired) But If those people are that serious about this game or even online gaming in general then they should buy a better router/modem. The red bars don't just effect that person, it effects the whole lobby/team/game. Those people are bringing other people down even if its not intentionally or if its any more than once in a blue moon. Most of all I wanna know how those people can enjoy playing at all? If I lagged or got disconnected even once an hour, let alone every other game, I would never be able to enjoy playing. You all can bring up Destiny servers but I believe they are rarely the problem (hence my first sentence) and you can bring up that your area/town/country doesn't have good connection, well you need to hardwire to a better modem and get familiar with your NAT settings or stop ''occasionally" ruining games.

                      • I think that if your internet is that bad it causes you to be invincible then there really is no choice but to ban them or put them with people of the same connection.

                        • Well, the connection In Destiny is peer To peer, so, when you end up into a game with people that lives far from you (other country maybe), some kind of lag is going To show up. Using my example, i am brazillian. Whenever i end up playing with north americans, i can easely tell that i begin to lag a little bit. When i notice that i simply quit the match in order To keep other people's pvp experience intact. That being said, if you lag on every single match (even when playing against your neighbor) because of your poor Internet connection, you simply should stop playing pvp until you fix your stuff. It may sound a little drastic, but it's no one but your own fault that your internet sucks, so no one but you should suffer the consequences. Thats my opinion :)

                              • I have crap Internet. I live in a small village, so it is a price I have to pay. The crucible is agony for me, getting shot through walls, being blasted with a shotgun 3-4 seconds after I died, landing 4-5 hawkmoon bullets in someone's noggin and them walking away from my carcass unharmed, the list goes on. For this reason I avoid all Pvp as much as possible but I grind the iron banner out for a lousy etheric light. The lighthouse is a distant dream I can never achieve in the foreseeable future. So, while you might think the lag is annoying to watch, it's infuriating to play with.

I have shitty Internet (30kb/s on usual) and I really don't have an advantage it seems to be against me mostly. I can only play 3v3 gametypes since I lag out or cannot even damage those around me in the other playlists. I also a get kicked from raids frequently when the kids freak out when there's a lag spike like invincible Minotaurs and blame me. Lag switches would be hung by their testicles tho. EDIT before anyone bitches "just buy more internet you scrub!" I wish I could I have the cash but I cannot since my internet company decided to not want to come out to my location for better service I dunno.

                                        • I think anyone above a certain ping should all play the same group of laggers so they don't bring down my experience. So a laggers lobby if you will. I pay good money for my internet so I don't lag. It's messed up that my connection doesn't matter when people don't pay attention/care about their internet. Especially in the new age of always online games laggers are a blight. I hate to say it but if the industry keeps going this way it's only going to become more of a problem. Long story short don't be mad you got banned because of your crappy internet. Its a game and tbh, it's better you're not on laggin up the servers.
