So I have binged on all of the Grimoire cards and obsess over learning all the little background stories and stuff. After watching the trailer for The Taken King, I did 2 things: 1) Screamed with glee like a small child. 2) Began to try and decipher what could happen in The Taken King So in the trailer, there is a lot of little clues and such, and following on from that, the vidoc showed some stuff. Now I have formulated a basic idea of how I think things will play out, and if you read this Bungie, tell me if I'm close please, I'm so hyped and want to see what's going to happen! :D PART ONE So we know the Guardians go to investigate Phobos (the larger of Mars's moons) where a Cabal distress signal has been set off. My thoughts are to firstly, why do we care? Guardians must constantly pick up on distress signals when the Cabal are fighting the encroaching Virgo Prohibition Vex , and when we Guardians are toppling their leadership. So why would we send people to Phobos to investigate? I think 2 things. 1) There are no Guardians on Phobos. 2) There are no Vex on Phobos. We know they must not be fighting any currently known forces. I heard some people theorize that the Cabal sent a distress signal to the Tower, and are asking the Guardians to stop Oryx, hence the Cabal dropship not attacking the group in the trailer but this seems a little far-fetched. I will admit though, Bungie are known for the frenemy plot-lines so it could happen. So as I was saying I think the Guardians go to Phobos to see what is so terrible, that the Cabal Empire are running away from it. Obviously Oryx's Taken are there and we'll no doubt have a wonderful bout of ballistic-negotiations. But what after? I suspect the Tower will realize the threat that the Taken pose and begin formulating a plan to stop them. PART TWO So secondly, I think that following the Phobos incident, the Tower will be preparing for not just a battle, but an all out war. The Taken clearly pose the threat of an extinction-class event so we'll no doubt see the Tower forces radicalize efforts. I suspect this will be the story point for the formation of the three new foundries "OMOLON", "Hakke" & "Suros". This will no doubt be the Towers answer to desperately trying to arm as many people for the coming storm as they can, and I suspect the Vanguard will also be sending out its Guardians to re-discover the Light-wielding arts that were lost, those being the new subclasses we have seen, Stormcaller, Sunbreaker & Nightstalker. I imagine this is all the efforts being taken to prepare humanity for the coming of Oryx, our lovable walking talking apocalypse. So following this, I imagine the Tower would have had time to search while the Guardians were preparing, and find out that Oryx and is Taken fleet are sitting just outside the Reef near Saturn, and begin efforts to plan the engagement that will soon follow. PART THREE So following the arming of Guardians with new methods to wield the light, and new weaponry from the respective foundries, the Tower will look for allies, as we most certainly can't hope to fight the Taken fleet alone. Numerous times there are references to how poor the Cities ships are, every loss is catastrophic, and our jump range capabilities are a shadow of Golden Age performance levels (Hence no charted exploration of anything further than the Reef). Luckily however, we made the first few steps into a new partnership with the Reef. Long-time fence sitters, Mara Sov's Awoken allowed the Guardians to aid them in stopping the Rise of Wolves, and I'd say they owe us a return favour. I think that Mara (The Queen) will realise that her Reef lies in the direct line of Oryx's path to Earth, and this will be another instance of the Twilight Gap problem, where Mara had to choose quiet anonymity, or start a war to save the Humans of Earth. Problem is, this time its not a Fallen army of squabbling factions, its a Hive God. The Reef cannot hope to win alone. PART FOUR I suspect the Queen will reach out to the City in hopes of forging an alliance to fight Oryx. This will be because both sides cannot hope to stand against Oryx alone, and both face certain annihilation otherwise. The Queens Awoken cannot wield the light as Guardians do, so will become "Taken" if they lose. And likewise, the Guardians do not have combat-capable warships, or certainly nothing to parallel the Queens Harbingers, so we would be utterly routed in any naval engagement against the Taken fleet. I imagine the Awoken will partner with the City to form an army against Oryx, and the battle ahead will form the basis of much of the story. This will culminate in a titanic battle with the Taken fleet in which the Awoken will field their naval forces, with the Guardians forming the shock-force that will board the Dreadnought in the hopes of defeating Oryx and winning the fight. I suspect this is the only fathomable way this can happen, as I said before, it is common knowledge the Guardians do not have a fleet that can stand up in a straight out naval battle. Also, we know how devastating the Queens Harbingers can be in battle and I imagine they will form the backbone of this fight. I suspect the story would have us reach out to Rasputin, in an effort to get his Warmind assistance in planning the huge battle for us, while the Queen provides the fleet to engage the rest of Oryx's Taken, and the Harbingers will blast a breach in the hull of the Dreadnought, allowing Guardians to board and make their efforts to take down Oryx. So that's it, that's all my ideas for the most part. Even if its all wrong, I am very excited to find out what will happen, and cannot wait until this expansion drops.
