It started out as a freestyle. My friends enjoyed it - even egged each other on to recreate it. We all looked forward to the concept. Debut my mixtape? The mere idea had me excited. The barrage of sick beats. The debut boosting my soundcloud. "What drawbacks could there be in that?" I thought to myself. After a few weeks nobody brought it up anymore. We'd moved on to different rhymes and beats as most #squads do. They weren't as sick, but they definitely weren't as phresh. We did the usual thing and Monday was a school day. By 11:30am everyone had left English. Mr. Gettes let out a long sigh after finishing grading all of the tests. After twenty minutes Mr. Gettes and I were the only ones in the room. "Mr. Gettes?" I smiled. "Yes, Turtle?" He said in his exhausted voice. I reached over to my folder and removed a gleaming CD. He instantly knew what it was. "What is that, Turtle?" He asked. "It's my mixtape. You should listen to it!" I was excited. "Turtle, it's just a dream. Don't tell me you-" He was cut off. "No, sir, I don't write no bland raps. I will bet you $50 I will hit the home page of Soundcloud next week." I had my excuse. "Fine, Turtle, I'll hear it." I was becoming excited already. "How will I know you listened to it with those headphones on, huh?" He froze up. "Is this some elaborate ploy for you to steal my headphones again, Turtle?" He shouted nearly alerting the class next door. "No, sir. I just don't want any cheating. I have my career on this." "Fine. I'll do it with my headphones turned all the way up so you can hear it a little." I was excited again. We both went silent. He carefully turned up the volume and looked down upon the mixtape that awaited his ear drums. It was fire.
