Cayde's Vendetta Cayde sat down, exhausted after the past hour. Shaxx had been pretty angry about Cayde flaking on their meeting, and Cayde wasn't really able to explain why. After all, Fireteam X wasn't supposed to exist. Now he had to go back to his desk job and be bored out of his skull, viewing reports from other hunters about enemy activity, but his mind wandered, as impossible as that was for an exo. He had hoped going back into the field would put an end to his need to do adventure again, but it only made him want it more. His communicator started beeping, probably Zavala, wanting to know where he had been the past day. He let the message pass and tried getting back to work. The beeping started again, louder. Cayde sighed and patched it through. "What." "Cayde? Where the hell have you been?" it was Ikora the irritation obvious in her voice. "I've been trying to reach you for three hours! We have an emergency, get down here now!" "Fine i'm coming!" he muttered, and turned off the communicator. "Why the hell did I even make that dare with Brask about this job?" _______________________________________ "Are you sure Varik's? When did this happen?" Zavala paced the room, unnerved at the news. "Positive, Ketch transmissions from Luna began an hour ago, yes." a hologram of Variks the Loyal was projected on the table. The Fallen's arms clasping with discomfort. Cayde entered the room. "What's so urgent that you had to drag me away from my riveting job?" "Cayde," Ikora glared at the exo, "you're late. Varik's here was just telling us-" "Where have you been?" Zavala interrupted Ikora, grabbing Cayde by the cloak. "When the Vanguard leader of the Hunters decides to leave without telling anybody, that makes it our business!" "I was meeting with Shaxx about some funny business in the Crucible." well technically, that's what he should have been doing, but Cayde had a feeling Zavala would be extremely angry if he found out the real reason why he was gone. "Anyways," Ikora said as Zavala let go of Cayde. "We have bigger matters at hand then Cayde's odd disappearances, you were saying Variks?" "Ah yes... Taniks the Scarred." Cayde froze as he recognized the name as Variks continued. "We have no confirmation it is him yet, Prince Uldren's Crows only just discovered it." "I'm going after him." Cayde started to head off before Ikora caught him. "Cayde, you know you can't, what if what happened to Brask happens to you?" "Besides..." Variks interjected, "We don't have an exact idea of his whereabouts, the Ketch's signal keeps bouncing around, untraceable." Zavala sighed, "Thank you for the info Variks, i'll issue a Nightfall level alert, we'll take it from here." Ikora nodded, then stamped on Cayde's foot until he muttered in agreement. "Well, I've got some paperwork to catch up on, sorry to run out, but... gotta run!" Cayde walked away at a quickening pace as Ikora and Zavala exchanged glances, wondering what was wrong with their Exo colleague. _______________________________________ "You have the coordinates?" Cayde sat in his ship, a hologram of Variks projected on the dashboard. "What makes you think I wouldn't have told the Vanguard if I did?" Variks looked uncomfortable "Because you want revenge for Brask as much as I do" Variks frowned. "I seek judgment for House, not revenge for friend." Variks folded his arms. "He must face justice." "What did Taniks do?" Cayde asked. "Taniks once part of forgotten House. That House commited unspeakable crimes among the Fallen, and were exiled. Taniks took revenge by murdering House Judgement in cold blood." Variks rapped his staff on the floor. "I have reached a verdict, and you will carry out his sentence." "Your sentence?"
