Cayde's Vendetta Cayde-6 had his ghost transmat him to the entrance of the Temple of Crota, where Taniks was staging his campaign into the Dusk Warren. He had brought with him his trusty Hawkmoon, as well as an old Epitaph 2261, Brask's old sniper rifle. Cayde carried it around in memory of his fallen mentor. "The Traitors Ketch, Kaliks Fel, is anchored above the Dusk Warren, makes it hard to gain access to without getting shot out of the sky, but he didn't think of going through the Temple of Crota." Variks' voice was starting to sound scratchy. "He's trying to jam our comms, but I can get around it." "If I was doing my job, which I'm not, I would probably be more interested in what Taniks is looking for." Cayde muttered as he charged past two Hive Shriekers, ignoring their blasts hitting his back. As he went further down through the catacombs, he didn't find any Fallen. He did find a couple Hive while passing a Seeder embedded in the room, but he was not to be trifled with, and dispatched them quickly. He ran into the Fallen, fighting off an entire Horde of Hive. He was about to charge into them when Variks stopped him. "Don't even bother Cayde, they are preoccupied with each other that you can just walk away." Cayde simply went to his left, where the way was clear. He entered the Dusk Warren, and immediately ducked as shots from 3 different wire rifles soared over his head. He had to time it just right. "Ghost, run battlefield diagnostics"Cayde prepped his weapons. "Scan for all potential threats and opportunities." "On it." Ghost quickly peeked out of cover, then ducked away before they could open fire. "The snipers are close enough together that a well placed grenade can shut them down, except their isn't any where to place it..." "Got it." Cayde grabbed a tripmine grenade and raised his arm to throw it. "Wait, I wasn't done! There's still one more-" "Kobe!" Cayde threw the grenade and whipped out Hawkmoon, shooting the grenade right out of the air. He had timed it just right and the grenade exploded, taking out all three snipers. He walked through the door and was nearly sliced in half by a stealth Captain. The Captain roared in anger, then disintegrated in a flash of golden light. Cayde's golden gun disappeared, the power granted by his Celestial Nighthawk helmet used up. "You could have told me about the stealth Captain." "I tried!" his Ghost rolled it's ball in exasperation. "What's a Kobe?" "I don't know." Cayde approached the Gravity Lift, and was about to enter when a large Fallen emerged from it. The Fallen was an oddity, it was like he had tried to fully incorporate himself into a machine, but had failed and succeeded at the same time. He wielded what looked like a cannon. It was Taniks the Scarred. Cayde and Taniks stared each other down for a brief moment. Cayde's hand rested on Hawkmoon. Taniks raised his cannon. A few seconds passed. A shot rang out. Cayde had used Hawkmoon as a distraction long enoigh for him to whip out his Sniper Rifle and take a shot, which Taniks blocked with the cannon. He retaliated, sending Cayde running for cover. Luckily for Cayde, the cannon had jammed, and Taniks threw it aside as he went back through the Gravity Lift. "Cayde, what happened? Can you hear me?" Cayde rose out of cover, walking over to where Taniks had dropped the weapon. "Yeah Variks, loud and clear. Just had a run in with Taniks." Cayde picked up the weapon. "He was using some kind of cannon, lucky for me it jammed." "Ah, Scorch Cannon, used by Fallen pirates for boarding ships. Can break through the hull of a ship like it is nothing. It probably overheated, should be usable now, yes?" Cayde strapped the Scorch Cannon to his back. "Yeah, it's working. How thick a hull can I breach with this?" "Hard to say, usually we aim it at the weakest spot, does more damage." Variks paused. "Why?" "Because i'm not just going to kill Taniks," Cayde stepped into the Gravity Lift and was immediately transported into the ships loading bay.
