I realize there were exploits for infinite money in the game that are now either fixed or will be soon. But other than exploits there doesn't appear to be any real way to farm crowns (that i've noticed). So how the heIl am i suppose to get crowns, other than side quests that don't even seem to pay very much? I have been sitting below 200 crowns ever since i started the game and every time i start to stack some up i have to repair something or whatever and i'm left with no more than i had before.
Anyone else have a good strategy to make money? Perhaps i'm overlooking something?
Edit:
I appreciate all the info you guys are giving me! Sounds like it shouldn't be much of an issue once i progress a little further and level up a bit. And from the sounds of it i don't need as much money as i anticipated. I just assumed with how immersive this game is that money would be a big role. But it appears not so much :)

Life of a Witcher isn't easy, no one said it is. War has hit the economy pretty hard and between the whores and fisstech in Novigrad I can barely stay well nourished.
-
Literally never bought anything other then repair kits
-
Witcher contracts and selling items. I've amassed 7,000 crowns legitimately with another 2,000-3,000 waiting to be sold.
-
Goto the big city in the middle and by the bank there will be a merchant in front of him with ropes of sausage hanging, talk to him and buy all of the 2 different types of seashells he has. Now goto the armorer that's also right next to the banker and break them down and you'll get pearls and black pearls. Sell those all over the city. They are worth a nice chuck of change. You can do this over and over using meditation for I think it's 5 days

I have 8k and I am only 11. Mostly from selling weapons and armor I don't need. Ingredients I have found that I have extra. And then horse back racing, fight club and Witcher contracts
-
Loot everything. Watch your carrying weight though. A lot of the weight in carrying is due to ally he alcohest I'm carrying.
-
Witcher contracts, sides quests, selling swords, armor and monster parts. I had 10k when I reached novigrad, 20k by skellige while buying whatever I wanted
-
Swords?? Swords??? You don't need swords Be a man and use your fists!!!
and wear griffin set and spam igni and never use a single swing. Then throw in some fists
Money is really hard to come by in the first few hours. But as you level up and fight stronger enemies, the loot you get will start to sell for much more than you need for repairs and other costs.
-
Have you picked up other forms of currency from chests and such? Florens and another one I can't remember. Look in your invantory last slot to the right if you have any coin in there take to the bank in velen and give it to the banker, he will convert it to usable currency
-
Do a lot of quests and get trophies from monsters. There is a herbalist ( can't remover where, look it up on google) that buys the trophies full price.
-
Haggle for high pay on contracts, sell the stuff you find very often. Also sell Relic type weapons when they can be replaced, they're worth a lot and IMO don't yield very different stuff than a regular sword when dismantled.
-
I have around 10000 without using exploits just pick up and sell everything you possibly can and do witcher contracts
-
Steal stuff, sell material you're not gonna use.
-
Why do you want a shitload of money? You don't need it..
-
Lol it was never a problem for me, loot everything and only sell armour and weapons, except relics, which can give you real nice stuff from breaking down. Over 40k at lvl 25, didn't exploit at all
-
Run around velen and explore everything. There's tons of low level thugs to kill and loot. I'm at level 21 with almost 40,000 gold using no exploits of any kind. It was a struggle at first when you can hardly afford 100 to fix all your broken gear but it pays off pretty quick. All those 10$ blunt axes and tons of animal pelts add up quick. Crows perch has an Armorer and merchant to sell to. I prefer hierarch square in novigrad since the Armorer has more money and there's two merchants right there too.

in the lore, witchers tend to be poor nomads drifting from job to job unless they get hired by a noble to be a bodygaurd or some such.
-
That's the point, W3 is a more challenging RPG.
-
Killing, looting and selling.
-
I haven't been doing any exploits and have 18,000 crowns... Guess that reflects more on your personal financial skills. Lol
-
Is actually super easy to get. You should have more than you can spend unless you're buying pointless shit all the time
-
Edited by Gomly1980: 6/3/2015 9:30:50 PMI'm sat at 54k with nothing to spend it on. Sell relic and magic items, never buy gear. Crafted stuff is far better.
-
I had about 6 or 7 witcher contracts amassed. They all pay about 250 crowns each. All the florens and orens you collect can be exchanged by the banker in novigrad they are both worth multiple crowns. Hold on to any magic or relic items cause they sell for a lot. Master crafted stuff is also good to sell in early game. As soon as you can, try to find armor and weapon repair kits designs so you can save yourself some coin and craft your own repairs. Those are just some things that helped me. You'll struggle a bit early game, but once I started doing things around novigrad, I had more money than I needed lol.

It's super easy to get money in this game unless you're actually buying amour and weapons (don't it's a waste of money). I have well over 30000 crowns and I spend it all the time.
-
You don't really need that much money
