Weapon Crafting is almost here!

I applaud the the new changes to Destiny, but frankly these changes should have already been in the game. The man concern I have is weapons crafting should be an option. Considering all the drop items in patrol missions I think they could be used as materials for crafting gear. Just like other games only certain enemies in certain lotations would drop certain items and a certain rate. For example a dreg in the cosmodrome would have a 10% chance to drop a shock core. Furthermore the items like ether seeds would increase the chances of drops. This would make killing those low level enemies rewarding to some extent. For crafting I have come up with several ideas: The first is creating a weapon from scratch. Every weapon would have a blueprint that you can get by dismantling one. Once you collect the right materials then you can create that weapon with all the perks that you want. The second is modifying weapons. Making certain scopes, barrels, and perks use specific combinations of materials would challenge players to play with more variety. Example: explosive rounds requires 20 shock cores, 15 roto joints, and 10 wepon parts. Or to add element arc you need 30 induction rods. You may even need to use other guns as parts, or be able to take specific perks from another gun (greens and blues anyone?) Third idea is that you could upgrade green and blue guns to add perk spots while maintaining the base stats. Some of the green or blue guns do have decent stats. All of this applies to non raid or exotic guns, however maybe exotic guns could be dismantled for their perk parts. This is the final frontier of Destiny. This would not replace reforging because reforging is a fast way to test your luck and avoid grinding for a good weapon, but for those who want to build that perfect gun they can put in the effort to obtain it. TLDR: use drops from enemies to create/modify weapons

  • What if you could craft your own Exotics? My goodness, the problems that would happen with that. Cool idea, though.

  • It would be cool to use that green or what ever as a shell for the weapon so you can chose what it looks like so a auto rifle that would look like a pulse rifle and they should have purchasable shells and allow side arm shells for hand cannons

  • Reforge a random roll for one mote of light. Custom pick your weapon perks for 10 motes of light.

That would be cool! I would love to see more weapon customization and crafting. Reforge at the gunsmith is a baby step in the right direction. I'm really hoping soon we will be able to lock things like upgrades and perks we like onto weapons and then reforge the ones we don't like. A more complex system to make weapons from scratch or even just improve existing ones would be awesome too.

  • This is a great idea, but I honestly don't see this being added to the current game anytime time soon. Maybe in the sequel though.

    • I'd also love it if they brought out new melee type weapons that could replace your secondary gun, think of things like Black Widows electrified batons from the new avengers film, or elemental swords/clubs, or even gloves for proper hand to hand combat. One of the reasons Skyrim was such as successful game was due to its addiction to crafting armour/weapons etc etc. i know that Destiny is a different kettle of fish but if they want to bridge that RPG/FPS gap then a few nods to some more rpg related content i am all for. Think my only issue with it could be that for those with the resources its another path to exploitation for dominance, but if done well it could help to balance the playing field between casual gamers and the more involved.

      • Good Idea I like the idea of crafting you own guns, only problem i see is storage space in your inventory and in your vault. It took Bungie so long to add more space.
