Strategies to beat Qodron, under-levelled and without Gjallarhorn

Original title: "Is it even possible to beat Qodron at lvl 33 without Gjallarhorn spam?!" The answer to the question is yes. Yes you can. Originally I posted about how I was struggling to beat Qodron on level 34 as a level 33 warlock without Gjallarhorn, and I asked the community how they managed to beat Qodron under those same circumstances. Many of your answers and suggestions were awesome and very helpful. Tonight I finally accomplished my goal and laid waste to Qodron. So I want to share the methods my fireteam used. Also, note that this week's modifier was "Trickle," which slows your ability cooldowns by what seems like 200-300%. Worst possible scenario. Our Game Cover We camped out in the back left corner of the room, crouching behind the crates next to the pillar we suffered some splash damage now and then, but moving around kept Qodron from spamming us with it. Mobs approached gradually from the left and right. Mostly hobgoblins, a few harpies, and Qodron's Eye. They usually just trickled in around the crates from in front (not from the hall to our right), so we could usually hit them hard with the shotguns before they became a serious problem. We pretty much ignored all mobs unless they came around to attack us. It's also pretty easy to hit Qodron's Eye, although 20% of the time we could not find him in time to get the Jailbreaker buff. Read below for how we handled those situations. Loadouts We had a level 34 Hunter, 34 Titan, and 33 Warlock. But after figuring out our strategy, we could probably have done it with all level 33's. Nobody had a Gjallarhorn. Each of us had a long-range primary, a shotgun and legendary rocket launcher. We had two scout rifles and one Thorn. Scout rifle users ran with Invective. I found myself using rockets for emergency mob cleanup, like when three elite hobgoblins and a couple harpies charge you all at once. Strategy Sometimes the best offense is a good defense. (Unless you have Gjallarhorn. Then the best offense is Gjallarhorn.) We played it very safe. We used shotguns and rockets to protect us from mobs and detainment fields, keeping a steady stream of primary fire on Qodron whenever possible. The biggest problem is taking down Qodron's Eye consistently so you can keep your team alive to do as much damage to Qodron as possible. One great tip we heard was to shoot the Eye's head off, forcing him to charge right into your shotgun. Worked more than half the time we tried it. But sometimes that didn't work out. Sometimes we killed him too early, or not in time, and sometimes we couldn't even find him. We found a couple great solutions for when we couldn't find/kill Qodron's Eye in time. 1. Use a super. More importantly, save your super as your get-out-of-jail-free card. Golden Gun, Fist of Havoc, and Fireborn (after death) were all useful for getting out of detainment fields. 2. We had a habit of always leaving one guardian down when possible, just in case we couldn't kill the Eye in time. We would just sit next to the fallen teammate, wait to be detained, and revive him as we shot at the detainment fields. 3. Brute force shotgun. If all of us were alive without a super charged, we could all sit right next to each other, point our shotguns in the same direction (we chose the wall behind us) and try to all hit the same field, we usually saved two of us that way. So basically we always had at least one man down on purpose as the ultimate fail safe against that fickle Eye. We killed the Eye about 50% of the time, using the revive and brute-force methods as needed. Primary weapons did plenty of damage over time, and ammo was plentiful due to mobs charging in now and then. It took us about 45 minutes to complete. Anyway, that's how we did it. I really appreciate all the tips you guys offered. Let me know what you guys think about our strategy, and feel free to offer any suggestions or tips in the comment section.

    • Even with a team of all 34s it was still one of the toughest things I've ever done in the game. Crazy relief when he finally dies

    • We did it the long way the 1st time. We stayed together on the right side so when we got contained we were all together shooting the bubbles and we used shotguns to destroy them then we would rocket him while killing the ads. We were all 34 but it seemed like a decent strategy. The 2nd time we did it we spammed him with rockets 2 ghorns and a truth. I need to run 34 later so if you're on ps4 I could probably help you.

    • We had 2 with high impact snipers and one (me) with invective so the shields went down in seconds, also the more Titans the better

        • I fully believe it to be possible. From spending a few hours trying it a few different ways I found the mechanic to be very fun. We had 2 people to ham on the boss using primaries, snipers, and rockets and clean up some troublesome adds while I would kill adds and Quodron's Eye to get the buff. Then I would go ham on the bubbles with my shotgun. Good luck.

Yup, just take it slow, spawns come every bit of damage qodron receives (every 15% or so). So you can clear the spawns, get that eye/detainment timing right (if you have a 34 on your team, make sure he gets the jailbreaker). Once done, start snipng qodron then clear spawns again, repeat till he's dead. Last night we were ghorning him with 3 34s. Only teammate kills himself on second rocket. Thats normally a wipe, but with trickle and synth cooldowns it all takes so much time, so we decided to keep playing to at least farm super and ammo. After a while, no more spawns, all 3 of us alive and supered and qodron at 80% hp or something. Waited for detainment shields, busted out and started over again as if its a fresh run. Easily doable! Might even be a better strat if you cant kill him on time. Usually its the spawns messing things up (damn ghorn prox).

                • Yes. Shot the goblin that gives you the buff in the head blowing his head off. This will make him run right at you and stop evading your teams fire.

                • You probably need to volunteer to be the one who focuses on Qodron's eye and being bubble buster. Super Good Advice works great on the detainment bubble. So kill adds for your Gjallarhorn friends and good luck.

                    • It's possible to beat him at 32 too if you don't suck ass. As long is you aren't 4 levels under the enemies you can still hurt them. Then it's just about being good at the fight mechanics, getting into the rhythm. Besides, it only takes 4 hours to hit 34 (exotic + armor core from 32 + Osiris piece + etheric light from 34, 35, or Osiris package), so being 33 is only a problem for people who don't play regularly.

                    • Did it today with two 33's on my team, neither one of them had gjallarhorn. We all went to the right side, I told them to just focus on shooting the boss with snipers, so they did that. Meanwhile I, as the only 34, just killed every add that came towards us, making sure to kill the eye of qodron as well, and then when he detained them I could easily break us all out with my found verdict. We just kept this up for about 5-10 minutes and we were done. Super easy using this strategy as long as the 34 is able to hold their own against the armies of hobgoblins, otherwise have a second guy killing some of the adds to help out when they start to become overwhelming.

                      • I can get out of the barrier without the buff by shooting 4 rounds of invective and spamming my melee. Did I mention that I have the ram? The health restore from the melee helps.

                        • We did with only 2 ghorns, we actually used it for clearing adds more than quodron, used black hammer for him. I found the hardest part as a 33 to be the fact that if you aren't full health when detain starts, it's very hard to stay alive until you are free.

                          • One person has thunderlord. That person kills the eye. Has the buff. Al three Guardians stack up before he puts the shield on you. Thunder lord guy breaks everyone out. One other guy taking out enemies the whole time and third guy dps on qdron. Black hammer gally whatever you have. Did It with three warlocks this way. And also from the left side.
