“I can’t believe we were f*cking lied to again and like a bunch of saps we believed them. Special mission from the Speaker my asshole,” Bree was furious as she strapped the harness of the seat she was in over her chest piece. She sat next to her brother and across from four elder Vandal’s who were going to be a part of their makeshift fireteam. They sat in the back of a large spacecraft carrier that was designed for transportation of personnel and equipment. The ship rocked and swayed back and forth as it departed from one of the many hangars spread out across the Reef. Their helmets in their laps, Bree and Brayden looked at each other as they spoke. “They were just going to send us right in there without even telling us, nothing so much as a ‘hey, there is some crazy dickhead in there who created a gun from the Darkness and killed a bunch of our Guardians with it in there, so you know, be careful’, I can’t believe it.” Brayden shook his head. “How the f*ck is He still alive anyway? That was,” Bree thought for a second “However the f*ck long ago it was, nobody even knows and even if they did know they would just lie about it anyway, right like with everything else.” “Well, the legend says that he created the gun through use of Dark magic and whatever, so it’s not entirely inconceivable that he used that Darkness on himself. Think of it more like a Symbiote, if that helps, he forges the weapon through his Dark practices, it consumes the gun and gives it it’s unholy power but the Darkness doesn’t stop there.” “Please tell me that you aren’t comparing Dredgen Yor to Venom from the Spiderman comics.” “Oh I am, it makes perfect sense, Bree, it takes control of the gun and then envelopes the host.” “I think a Symbiote has enveloped your brain. Whatever, I don’t care about your Symbiote theory, what I care about is Thorn and Dredgen Yor.” “Just imagine, us, the scourge of the Guardians hailed as true heroes for taking down the biggest blemish on the face of the Vanguard in its history. We would have a parade, confetti, balloons, there would be dancing in the streets!” “Brayden, if you don’t shut the f*ck up, I’m going to dance on your face.” A hard jolt and shudder shifted Bree and Brayden against their restraints as the carrier broke into Venus’ atmosphere. The ship teetered back and forth as it sped across the black night sky of the Severin region, once again they were slammed against their harnesses as the large ship came to an abrupt halt. A little green light flashed in the chamber where they were sitting and everyone began unbuckling themselves; then began the ritual of selecting their armament. An uneasy quietness fell over the ship as one by one, the unlikely team of 6 marched into the cargo bay of the carrier. They squeezed through a small metal doorway that opened up into a wide open area that was packed wall to wall with all the equipment they would need. “Be sure to grab a lot of synths, I’m sure we aren’t going to be able to make a pit stop while we are running around out there,” Brayden commanded as he approached a large silver chest that had his and Bree’s name’s stenciled on a metal plaque on the lid. “Bree, our gear is over here.” She came over to him and Brayden opened it. The contents of the chest consisted of their weapons that were taken away upon their capture. Bree reached in and her gloved hands immediately found the custom grips of her two hand cannons; both of them fully upgraded and customized Fatebringer’s. She popped the chamber’s and looked to find each of them loaded, they found their home’s in holsters that hung off of her utility belt on each side of her leg. Brayden found his beat up scout rifle that was unrecognizable as anything any of the guardians used. It was dented and covered in scuffs and scrapes, the stock was worn smooth from years of use, the ACOG scope was cracked, it was about the worst possible condition for a weapon. He ejected the magazine and checked, 20 rounds in total, including the extended clip. He moved the rifle to the magnetic plate on his back and the rifle sucked fast, his hands grabbed hungrily for his two knives that slid into sheath’s on his belt. Simultaneously, the brother and sister lifted their helmets and placed them on their heads. The air locks sealed shut as the helmets bonded themselves to their chest pieces. “R? Are you there? Daddy’s come home,” Brayden spoke into his helmet and all at once his heads up display sprung to life as his image enhance brightened up the cargo room. All the colors took on a sharper more vivid contrast than his eyes ever could have hoped for. “I am here sir and await your orders,” a robotic voice spoke softly into his eardrums. “Flower, head’s up,” Bree’s HUD came up the exact same as Brayden’s. The clarity and the sharpness of the images made her a little dizzy as she was used to seeing them without the assistance of her helmet. Bree and Brayden didn’t believe in Ghosts, either in the apparition sense or the orb’s of light that roused them from their slumber of death. They had their Ghosts integrated into their helmets, they could give orders just by calling them out, their helmets would take the scans, analyze data and give the results either verbally or a text box on their HUD or both. They had been the only guardians, that they were aware of, to have ditched their little floating bots for something a lot more modern and technologically advanced. “Flower, activate and link my helmet comm with Brayden, then I want to be able to hear and speak to the Vandals, if you can’t translate it vocally, text boxes will have to suffice,” Bree was a totally different animal when she was in her full gear and ready to take on a mission, Brayden matched his sister’s intensity with a tenacious attitude of his own. She didn’t stand idle while Flower worked out the technical kinks, instead she dug through the chest and started loading up the slots in her gear with ammo, only two grenades and her lone throwing knife. Bree and Brayden stowed away as many synths of each type as they could carry, but they were limited and had to be careful, one synth could mean the difference between capping a Vex Goblin in the face or receiving a bullet to the head. “Sir, I’ve just been notified, we are above the LZ and it is swarming with Vex teleportation clouds. In addition, the Severin Valley region is experiencing one of the worst thunderstorms of its current seasonal phase.” R reported to Brayden. “R, give me a three dimensional map of the Valley floor where the gate’s to the Trials are,” It took less than a second before an exact replica, on a much smaller scale, of the Severin appeared in his HUD. “It’s too hot, transporting to the surface at these coordinates with this much atmospheric activity as well as the surrounding Vex, could plop us right in the middle of a firefight we won’t be prepared for,” Brayden viewed the map as it rotated a full 360 degrees, “Move our drop 10 klicks to the southern part of the Valley, we’ll hump it the rest of the way.” “Confirmed.” The ship’s boosters ignited in fiery red flames and everyone in the cargo bay grabbed a hold as the large ship moved to the new drop location. It only took a few minutes as it came to a halt once more, it was Bree who called out the order this time. “Flower, scan our new spawn point for any enemy activity; better yet, any activity at all, if anything is moving down there, I want to know about it.” “Scanning….Please wait……No form of foreign or human life present, duration of the storm is an estimated 1 hour and 46 minutes. Extreme atmospheric discharges present, proceed with extreme caution.” “Well, this is it,” Bree looked to her brother and he nodded back to her. As if they were sharing the same brain wave, the two of them turned to look at the Vandal’s, who were just standing there patiently awaiting their orders “Hit it.” As if they were standing in a blizzard, a swirling, twirling sensation wrapped around their legs like a pair of pants, a loud long whirring rang out as they were engulfed the rest of the way in fuzziness before finally dissipating into thin air.
